I’ve been lucky enough to know Ted for the duration of my acting career and worked with Robert on a short film a few months ago. Both are true professionals that deliver value through their knowledge and experience. I took a class from Ted after being an extra a few times on local TV shows and taking a sabbatical from my career. I found his exercises to be challenging, fun, and I ultimately grew as an actor but mostly I became more confident in general and a better public speaker. As a Portland area theatre actor and vocalist, I’d been curious about learning/​training in acting for the camera. Because I wasn’t new to acting, I was searching for an instructor who would take me through the baby steps of film acting while respecting my previous experience (I needed to start at the beginning in film but I’m not a beginning actor and didn’t want to be treated like a baby). I’d heard great things about Ted from a past acting professor, so I gave it a shot and it was one of the best moves I made. Stage and on-​camera acting are similar yet so different, and I was amazed at how Ted could help me understand this new world by connecting it to the theatre world I already knew. He is patient, kind, well-​spoken, educated and has TONS of professional experience. He’s always encouraging, but expects you to work hard and give it your best, which I highly respect. His stories are entertaining and his sense of humor makes class fly by. Yet with all his clout he’s humble, you never hear him brag or boast, and he never acted pompous.
Anyone, experienced professional actor, beginning actor, or just someone interested in the film world should take a Ted class. Seriously, you won’t regret it.

I’ve been taking acting from Ted Rooney off and on for about 1.5 years. I’ve taken 3 of his classes (i.e. «On Camera 1 & 2» and «Foundational»), as well as several of his Actorcise classes. I had been an extra on Grimm and thought it might be fun to take acting and learn something about the work that goes behind the entertainment we enjoy so much. Actors make acting look so natural as though it’s not difficult, however, after being on a set, watching the crew work so hard, the actors having to do several takes to get a scene right, I thought it would be nice to have some knowledge about acting and learn something more about myself at the same time. During the first class, he made us all feel at ease and explained in depth what we would be studying and gave us a couple of assignments during the first class. We also did a couple of excercises. We had assignments and homework during the week. The clases lasted for 6 weeks. I made new friends and learned much about the acting world, especially how difficult it is to simply «act.» I continue to take Actorcise classes to keep up with what I’ve learned and find I learn something new just about every time I attend. Ted is so good to spend time one on one time with us in front of the class so we can learn from each other, explaining to each of us what we need to do to improve and where we need to improve. I must say, I’ve been in several things since, small roles and featured extra and the training I received from his classes have helped me immensely. It’s also helped me in just every day life as I’m naturally a quiet person, not very vocal. I would highly recommend Ted Rooney’s classes if you’re considering getting into the entertainment industry.

I attended On Camera 1. Ted had a planned curriculum from the first night to the last. He took the time to provide direction to each student as we learned the important aspects of acting on camera. Every one of our efforts were taped then provided to us by email. Weekly reading assignments supplemented that weeks learning. I leaned a great deal in the 21 hours of class supplemented by the text he provided. I have the tools to prepare myself for an audition.
