Bliss Salon & Day Spa

I found this place by searching for a hair salon on Unilocal,and after purchasing a voucher, I made my first visit. They do have a small parking lot, and that is a plus for anywhere on Division St.
1. Very nice and clean, with a quirky rock-​a-​billy interior. 2. A dedicated receptionist, and you can make appointments with any hair stylist (rather than other salons who function as individuals who rent chairs). 3. Had to wait over 15 minutes after appointment time due to lunch running a bit long. It happens. 4. Had an O. K visit, but even with the coupon, a bit expensive.
Overall, I feel like I need a second visit to really see how this place shines.

i got my hair dyed and cut here a few weeks ago. it was my first time at Bliss.
the atmosphere was super warm and inviting. i felt very looked after.
my hair stylist was wonderful… she clearly talked me through my color options so we were for sure on the same page! the exact color i wanted!
and the cut was great too… i have no complaints.
And i even got a free arm massage thrown in too!

The atmosphere here is super calm and easy to be yourself. The location is sweet and spacious. Everyone was super nice and genuine. I sometimes feel odd to talk to my hairdresser, so it almost always end up in silence or small talk. But Carole!- You’re the bomb. Super easy going and very kind.
On to my hair… My hair is naturally straw-​like (beta-​pleaded) and hard to manage on the sides when it’s in its middle stage (1″ approx). And in the beginning I was getting a tad discouraged, but it turned out super fresh and clean.
Totally recommend going there.

Dreama is the best! So great at creating the best look for YOU! Very conservative when it comes to cost! She genuinely wants you to be ecstatic about your hair! Dreama is highly trained and puts her knowledge of color and cut to work. She’s also super entertaining and fun. Go get gorgeous by Dreama!

I had a very specific ombré/​balayage look I was going for — and she made it happen!
I brought in a few pictures of the look I wanted and I walked out the door feeling fabulous.
The salon was clean, spacious, and a really warm open space to hang out in while my color processed.

I got a brazilian wax here today and was not super happy compared to other places that I have been. Waxings are always kind of painful and uncomfortable by nature, but I’ve found there’s a lot that can be done to make them a better experience. I personally like to have someone who keeps a conversation going to kind of distract you from the discomfort and makes an effort to take your mind off of the pain. This waxing today was pretty much silent, it was not necessarily a terrible thing, the atmosphere was calm enough but I have had better experiences elsewhere It was not as comfortable as other times that I have gotten waxed as far as my positioning during the procedure and upon further inspection afterwards, the job was not as well done as I had hoped it would be (missed spots). Also, usually when I get waxed the person doing it will kind of let me know what they are doing as they go, and tell me what kind of lotion or products they are applying at the end and what their function is (calming the skin, preventing ingrown hairs, etc) which was not the case this time as there was pretty much no conversation or communication during the procedure.

My stylist, Alexis, was a sweetheart and really easy to talk to. She totally got what I wanted to do, and the fact that I don’t like to fuss over my hair. Alexis made me look and feel great! I always go to Laura for my brows– she does a great job, and is quick! Laura also owns Bliss, so it is nice to get a chance to tell her in person how much I like the salon.

Bliss is a good salon. The space is nice and open and it doesn’t smell weird in there. They carry Kevin Murphy and Aveda products, both environmentally and consumer health responsible. My haircut looks great and my stylist was informed and friendly. Although Bliss is on Division (crazy busy a lot of times), it is tucked behind Roman candle and they have their own parking lot.

Also, had Alexis cut my hair today and was vey pleased! She listened to exactly what I wanted– which is rare. I’ve had some interesting cuts, being in this business– but Alexis knew exactly where I was coming from (having curly hair herself). Very pleased!

I just love this place. All of the ladies/​gents are warm and welcoming, it’s such a great environment.
I followed Stephanie H. from another salon. She is so incredibly talented! I have made some extreme hair decisions in the past year, and Stephanie has been such a rockstar – making my hair look better than I could have ever imagined. Not to mention she is seriously hilarious and I have a blast every time I go to get my hair cut/​bangs trimmed.

I had an excellent experience at Bliss with Kat! The salon fit me in last minute over 2 days for a cut and color, vintage styling, makeup, pedicure and manicure. The staff was very accommodating with all of my add on and particular requests. Kat even comped my vintage style since I had been in the day before for my cut and color. The photos you see were taken by Kat at the salon and we had a fabulous time taking them! I feel lucky to have found another great Portland stylist.

Leo was my stylist, and he did amazing! I’ve always had a hard time getting a stylist to do exactly what I wanted, always putting their own spin on my hair (long, straight, and naturally blonde). Leo listened, and went right to my long bob, no layers, just like I had asked. My cut was $ 40 with the Unilocal coupon, but totally worth the $ 50 original price. He washed, dried, and styled me to perfection before I left! Will be back every 6 – 8 weeks for trims, as I am confident Leo can get me back to my long healthy hair I’ve been missing!

Ironically named, this salon left me feeling anything but bliss. Rather, it left me with one of the worst haircuts I’ve had in years.
Perhaps it was all my fault. After a last minute appointment cancellation from my tried-​and-​true stylist, I called up Bliss on a whim. They were nearby and they seemed reputable. The salon was beautiful; they’ve mastered that antiquey chic vibe, and I felt comfortable and content waiting for my hairs to be chopped.
Of course, the hair chopping was the problem. I told my stylist what I wanted: an easy enough to style hair-​cut that will grow out well (I donated my locks a while back, and have been excitedly looking forward to having long hair again). Without any more consultation, I was given an A-​line. Those who know hair know that an A-​Line is the death of a grow-​out. You’ll end up having to lose a ton of length to get things evened up. In short (pun intended), it’s just about the worst thing the stylist could have given me.
But here’s the thing, not only did she give me an A-​Line, she gave me a REALLY bad one. My hair is thick but fine, a head scratching combination if I’ve ever heard one. Consequently, any sort of layering must be done with a certain finesse. My stylist did not have such finesse. Instead, she hacked away at the back of my head until I had layers so short that they fell out of any attempted braid. As if the too-​short layers and the A-​Line weren’t insulting enough, the whole mess was uneven with the right side hanging much longer than the left.
A couple weeks later I went back to tried-​and-​true stylist for highlights. My stylist’s eyes widened. I heard whispering in the backroom in which an attendant said, «She’s your client, right? But that’s not YOUR work, is it?» My stylist apologized profusely and told me in the nicest way possible that my hair looked like a layer of shelves with a duck bill on bottom. She offered to re-​cut my hair for free. Tried-​and-​True managed to give me a presentable haircut, but at a cost: I ended up losing even MORE length (a couple more inches, in fact, to incorporate those super short layers). My dream of long hair has been cut short; it will take months just to grow back the hair I’ve lost between the hack job and correction.
From here on out, all of my hair bliss will come from tried-​and-​true. Perhaps it was just a bad stylist, Bliss, but I’m not taking my chances ever again.

I have been looking all over Portland metro area for a quality cut, experience and reasonable price for services rendered. My cut was $ 50, so totally worth it.
My stylist was Kat. I couldn’t be more impressed with her. She talked me into bangs, I’m glad she did! It’s been forever since I «loved» my hair cut, it’s been so much easier to style it. My hair is fine, thin and naturally wavy. Kat knew exactly how to cut my hair so I had maximum volume and manageability. She also took the time to give me some styling tips.
I hope she doesn’t get too busy, so I don’t get to see her but I couldn’t give her a higher recommendation. Thank you, Kat!!!

Seriously good pedicure! I get them all over this great country of ours and this one was enough of a standout to warrant a special trip to Unilocal :)

A few days after posting my review, Laura, the owner, called to explain my experience was not standard and that she would personally do my next facial so that I could have a true Bliss experience.
We all deserve second chances so on Saturday morning I went back in. Laura’s services speak for themselves. Her skin GLOWS. She was lovely, genuine and detailed. For the next 75 minutes, I was cleansed, steamed, scrubbed, massaged and extracted exactly as I’d hoped to be.
I greatly respect a business owner who goes to such a degree to make sure their customers receive the service they deserve. This is a place I want to support and I will definitely be back again.

I have been going to this salon for a little over a year and I love it! The receptionists are great — they always offer you a beverage and greet you with a smile! The salon it’s self is very cute and comfortable — lots of natural light in the salon and they always have the most soothing playlist on.
More importantly then the salon, is my recommendation for my hairstylist, whom I love! Her name is Kate and she is the best. I actually started going to this Bliss because Kate moved from a different salon. I completely trust her and I’ve never been disappointed with a haircut or color! I get compliments on my hair all the time and they’re always surprised it’s color treated because people think it’s my natural.
Overall, I highly recommend this salon and Kate!

I started going here over a year ago to get my eyebrows waxed by Laura, and she has always done such an absolutely fantastic job. She shapes them exceptionally well, so they look really natural and lovely. I also appreciate that she knows I’m not in to a having to do a lot of upkeep, and so she shapes my brows in a way that I can easily and simply maintain them myself in between waxing.
She also suggested tinting at one of my first appointment, which I was skeptical about at first — but now, I love it! The darker shade she suggested looks really natural and helps frame my face so well.
I also got my hair done there a few months back; I ended up getting about 11″ cut off and had a great time — even when I cried a little — the stylist and Laura were so nice and I loved (and still love) my cut!
My last comment is about the online appointment system and confirmation process. They are exceptionally thorough and I absolutely love the fact that I can create an appointment online, then I get an immediate email to confirm I created the appointment and finally another email to confirm that the appointment is booked. I even can get a text message to confirm the appointment + remind me the day of, which I gratefully use. I can be a forgetful person, but I love that I don’t ever have to worry about when or if my appointment is happening.

I have been searching for a salon since I’ve lived in Portland (12 years). I’m so happy to have finally found one that not only provides great service, but who is also focused on high-​quality, environmentally friendly products. I have had multiple different services at Bliss, from eyebrow waxing to Keratin treatments to color and cuts. I have never been disappointed. I love the great work both Nicole and Laura do, but frankly all the stylists there are terrific.
I’m not sure about the other negative posts. Perhaps they aren’t familiar with using the Square app, which is the payment system that Bliss uses. Frankly it’s being used more and more frequently at all sorts of businesses and it just takes a little bit to become comfortable with the application. It’s certainly not something to blame the salon over.
Another thing I love about the salon is that it is a really comfortable spot to relax. The building has great high ceilings and they offer tea and water. All-​in-​all a «blissful» experience.

I happy about the fact they really do care about customer feedback.
I am giving them 5 stars because when the owner, Laura, found out that the result of my Keratin treatment was not what I expected, she volunteered to refund my entire money, she was also happy to invite me for a facial service. So, I am happy! :)
