Great roasting done by this shop. Organic Honduras is currently my favorite roasted coffee in the Portland area. Their roasting profiles hit that sweet spot between under roasted(grassy) and over roasted(burnt) that lets the unique regional tastes of the coffee come through. The baked goods from Baker and Spice are tasty also.

I was in the neighborhood, and needed to kill time. I hung out here for about an hour, and enjoyed a delicious decaf Americana and biscotti. Be forewarned: this is a lawless place where fashion has no rules, such as overalls with a gingham scarf. The condiment station has cinnamon and sugar but also sriracha, which I saw someone put on a bagel with cream cheese. There’s a small statue in the corner of a pig snarling. It’s madness. I had to leave. It made me feel too Portland to be here.

Wow, if I wanted to go get a coffee from a good roaster I wouldn’t go here. No flexibility on bean choice, no friendliness no flexibility on extra shots!!! I’ll go where they want your business.

Super friendly staff. Locally owned. The coffee quality is great, pastries are on point. The atmosphere is great, a cozy place to hang out in. There are also an awesome collection of cat books.

The Americanos we had were good. The chocolate chip cookies were delicious and the bagels were good. Cute, quiet vibe

Small, inviting coffee shop! We came here to study for a few hours and enjoyed their regular coffee. Out of all the Portland coffee shops we’ve been to, this place has the best bang for your buck, especially if you are planning to stay for a while. A cup of coffee + refill(if you’re staying) is only $ 2! They give you their classic mug, which you are free to fill with their hot coffee on the side. I really like their design! Reminds me of craft beer, except craft COFFEE. clever clever There are a few tables in the front with high chairs at the window, and a few tables + a couch in the back. Super small space, but very cozy.

So… here’s a place to avoid. Especially with Sweetpea, Upper Left Roasters and Tiny’s so close by. I was just at Cellar Door and — after buying a pot of tea — went up to check out their pastries. I noticed some are marked GF, but no vegan. I asked the woman at the counter and she said, «We don’t do vegan and we never will.» When I asked why, she said, «Because they don’t taste nearly as good without butter.» I asked her if she’d ever tried Sweetpea or some of the other amazing vegan bakeries in town.(My non-vegan friends never know the difference — in fact, colleagues are always thrilled when I walk in with Sweetpea pastries.) She said, «It’s a business decision we’ve made. We have no interest in ever carrying vegan stuff here.» I wanted to tell her that only no-talent hack chefs and bakers would have to use butter as an excuse to snub a swath of the area clientele, but it was clearly not worth the breath. It’s one thing to not know how to stock your case. It’s another to be totally rude and dismissive about it.

On my day off, I googled«best coffees in Portland» just to see what came up and when I saw that they served lattes with hemp milk, that got my attention for I love hemp milk! While the prices were a little more than I hoped for, the hemp latte was so incredibly good that I ended up having TWO! The first was 16 oz and the second was 12 oz. I drank it and savored every sip with great pleasure. It’s very rare to find such good lattes. So basically I had two lattes for the price of lunch and it was worth it! It was fun because I had never been to this part of town before and I like the neighborhood. If I lived here, I’d be a frequent customer!

Stopped in here for a latte after adopting a kitten from the Humane Society. Ben stayed in the car with the kitten. I went in the for the lattes. It was nice that the shop had local artists’ work on the wall. It seemed like a place that one could easily study in. They also had a variety of bagels and pastries for sale. There was a short wait and the service was very friendly. There are only a few flavors available, but at least some of them were homemade. I ordered a 12 oz latte and a 12 oz vanilla latte and used a Chinook Book BOGO coupon. Yay Chinook Book! My vanilla latte tasted way too much like milk and not enough like coffee. The vanilla flavor was nice and I definitely appreciated that it wasn’t too sweet, but I wish I had added an extra shot. Ben had mostly the same feedback about his latte. He liked his a bit more, but it tasted too much like milk. With so many good coffee options in Portland, many of which I haven’t discovered yet, I can’t say that I’ll be back to Cellar Door any time soon. This one just wasn’t for me.

One of my faves. I really think they have the best lattes in town. Personally I like mine bowl sized which is just they way they make them. Their roasts are amazing. Limited food options. Plus the staff are always super friendly.

This is one of those places I’ve always dreamed of finding — a coffee shop within a couple blocks with a relaxed atmosphere and quality offerings. Both the coffee and bagels are great(pro tip: ask for just light cream cheese), service us speedy, and the location — two blocks from ladd’s and the West garden — can’t be beat. Thanks for providing me with emergency breakfast provisions time and time again, Cellar Door.

Always so nice! Never much of a wait. Usually people inside doing coffee shop things but I’ve never seen them full. Outdoor seating. Super friendly staff. Great coffee. The coffee is delicious, they make it really well. They let me call my order in from my work(across the street) and always have it ready to go when I get there. They put just the right amount of cream cheese on my toasted everything bagel which has encouraged me to eat breakfast on a more regular basis than ever before. It’s a nice little shop to go to when you want to get some work done, read a book outside, meet up with a couple friends to try and remember what you did the night before, or just grab a coffee to go since they aren’t usually too busy. Did I mention how nice the staff are? Really super nice.

I go here from time to time and the staff is really friendly. My only issue with them is that they don’t have good espresso, which is my drink of choice. However, I like the vibe and environment!!!

Nice study spot, decent coffee, good service. I went on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn’t packed and was a very nice place to hit the books.

Cellar Door makes great coffee, no doubt. Go here if you have the Portland«look» and the staff will treat you great. A group of us drove here today from out of town for a Destination cup of coffee and the coffee was great. Again, we are not from Portland, no tattoos, no ear gages, nothing unique about the way we dress . The staff frowned and literally grunted as I ordered four cups of coffee. We were seated in back with nobody else in line. The baristas said«hey your coffee is ready, its over there(pointing) if you want it.» Wow, is this place under new ownership? I’ve met the owner years back and he rocks. These employees today only got excited about their work when somebody they knew came in the door. Beware, if you’re a stranger and don’t look like the baristas you’ll be treated with disdain.

Excellent chemex coffee and even better almond boscotti. Definitely would come back if I’m in the neighborhood!

Ahh, a refreshing change from what I’ve come to expect at Portland coffee shops. Friendly employees, a beautiful old-Portland décor, and delicious coffee. My cappuccino was right in there with the top five best on my list — carefully crafted with delicious espresso, pulled just right, and the perfect amount of foam.

Customer service was awesome! Call ahead to see if they can seal some coffee for you in case you’re shipping it or not brewing it too soon. You’d have better luck earlier in the day when the machine is still running. Pretty high prices, but the coffee is good.

This is a decent coffee shop on the east side. I wasn’t blown away by the chemex pour, but it was decent. This isn’t the best I’ve had in Portland, but it’s solid. If you’re in the area, this is a safe bet.

I really want to love this place! I’ve been here multiple times, and just can’t stand the coffee: acidic + one dimensional. That said, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is cute, which is why I rate it 2 stars. I don’t understand the difference between my taste and others: clearly, Cellar Door is loved, and people talk about it as being their favorite coffee shop. It is really cozy and cute inside, but it’s not my cup of coffee. ;)
