Chadowboxx Salon

Looked good at first. I don’t like the lace front encolsure. You have to have your hair in your face all the time or wear headbands so you don’t see it. Length is good, scalp was super itchy for a week to the point t where I wanted to shave my head. Now 4 weeks in it feels like it’s going to fall off my head. I am going to see how it goes at the next take down and install. That said. the service was great. Everyone was friendly and hair was pretty. Wish I could schedule appointments every 4 weeks but she’s booked. Took a month to get in for my first appointment but owner made sure I was taken care of before leaving for vacation.

Very unprofessional shop. No regularity in scheduling and a double edged policy for clients. As expected appointments are to be upheld on time as scheduled. Several times I was asked to push back an appt. less than 5 minutes before the scheduled time, and then was cancelled on by the shop owner herself, without being presented an alternative. Charlisa initially did a great job caring for my hair until the weave I was convinced would protect my hair began to break it. Charlisa, upon cancelling my appt. (again within 5 minutes of the appt. With me at her shop and through a Facebook message) without rescheduling, told me she doesn’t know what to tell me. This shop doesn’t need or appreciate it’s clientele.

I am sorry to say I did not have a good experience at Chadowboxx. I went in to get my hair braided to help grow out my bangs and as a protective style to help grow out my hair in general.
Charlisa the owner did the installation. I told her in advance why I wanted braids and my goal of growing my hair out. She totally overloaded my hair, putting way to much synthetic hair in. Too much for my taste and for my hair. Because it was so heavy and too thick it became very annoying. The fraying and extreme fly-​aways started after only a week despite being covered at night and using high quality braid spray. She braids out and not in, so if you’ve had braids you know this causes the braids to fray easily. Upon take down over half of my hair had major breakage. I literally have less than half my original thickness, and had to trim about 4 – 5 inches off the ends because it was so bad. Needless to say this is a huge set back in growing my hair out. I am so much worse off than when I started, a waste of time and money.
Lastly I would like to mention that her policy states:
” Children
Chadowboxx is very fond of children. However, the salon is not necessarily the best place for them. If children are not being serviced, I do ask that you make proper childcare arrangements for them. Time at the salon should be your time of pampering and relaxation.“
So, I made childcare arrangements for my son for the entire day. But, she didn’t. Her 5 year old son was there the entire time running around and asking questions and trying to sit in my lap. I love kids as much as the next mom, but like most moms I was looking forward to a kid free day to relax. When spending almost $ 300 I would expect it to be a nice day for me as the customer. Sadly it was not.
She is a nice enough person but pretty much ruined my hair. :(

If you need your hair done, make sure to call at least 4 weeks in advance. I called in as a new client today. The lady who answered the phone was kind and mentioned that her assistant would help me with scheduling. I inquired about two treatments: relaxer for edges and styling for my weave. I was quickly told that if I wanted to come in, I would have to wait 34 days until the next appointment was available. Clearly they are booked out for a reason, and I’m sure the talent is superb. The photos here looked great! But as a new client who is told that they can’t even been seen for over a month, it was rather off putting and a wee bit unrealistic considering I’m asking for a chemical process. I’m from the east coast, so maybe this is common on the west coast? Either way, I warn you to book in advance. Perhaps anticipate the services you need. Idk, this makes very little sense to me.

Charlisa did an amazing job on my hair! I was nervous to start because I had never been there before, but Charlisa was so welcoming as soon as I walked in and I came in 20 minutes early thinking I would have to wait till my appointment time, but as soon as I got my paperwork filled out she had her assistant get started on my hair immediately. I will defiantly keep making the drive from Beaverton to her salon. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience

I love this place, and to be honest, I feel so comfortable there that it sucks that I feel a four is more appropriate, right now. I haven’t had a full, huge appointment yet, because I came to Portland with my hair super short and we are currently working on growing it out. In that, Charlisa has been amazing, and really encouraging about what we need to do and how we need to maintain it so I can get to the length and ultimately the new style I’m after.
The only reason, and I mean ONLY reason, I am giving Chadowboxx a 4 star right now is because both of my appointments have been running extremely late. I arrive right on time, sometimes a bit before if I don’t get lost, and to wait for an hour after my appointment time is really taxing when I have other things to do. The last time, we had to cut my color extremely short because I had another appointment scheduled and was actually late.
I will say that despite that, I will continue to go back. I know that this salon is the one for me, and I love the plans we have. I trust Charlisa implicitly with my hair already. I’m sure this review will be a five, eventually, but it should be noted to give yourself a lot of time, just in case she’s up to something tricky before your appointment and it runs over.

We made an appointment at 4 and arrived exactly on time, there was only one person working there. We waited for 30 minutes! She didn’t pay us any attention just kept talking to the client and working slowly! So we decided to leave #byefelicia

On Thursday morning, Charlisa gave me the magical mane of my dreams. You know those photos you lust after– of thick, lustrous, shiny hair– that seem unattainable? The kind of hair photos that make you green with envy? Thanks to Chadowboxx, they are within your reach.
When I set up the appointment, Charlisa was very thorough to find out exactly what I wanted, asking me a lot of questions over the phone to make sure I would be satisfied. I got 3 bundles of hair in 18″, 20″ and 22″ (I wanted long layers). I still had my previous extensions in (that had been done in a different location) and she didn’t charge me extra to remove them. She made sure to give my scalp a lot of love before she did the new braids– scalp treatment, a massage with a silicone brush, Awapuhi deep conditioner– the works. She also darkened my hair to blend better with the extensions, and it’s never been softer (she left out some on the top and it’s virtually seamless). The hair she provides is that good quality s***. Silky and easily detangled, can be reused multiple times. If I had paid for my own three bundles of hair (of much lesser quality), I would have paid twice as much including the install price. Let her provide the hair, unless you are incredibly savvy.
Pro tip: LET HER DO HER THING. I know you’ve been wronged in the past and you don’t trust anyone with your hair (let’s be real– who does? It can be pretty scary out there) but she knows what she’s doing. Her installation is «a little OCD,» as she put it, which is a great trait for a stylist to have because– and I can vouch for this– it’s guaranteed perfection. Not only does she do a flawless installation, she’s just fun to hang out with. Conversation with her feels like you’re talking to an old friend, comfortable and friendly. She offered a lot of useful tips for care and maintenance, shaped the layers neatly and added a few waves to blend it before sending me off. There may have been happy tears in my eyes when I looked in the mirror– I’ve never been even half as elated with a past hairstyle and I didn’t know it was possible for moviestar, hair-​commercial hair to be mine.
In summary: Charlisa is a hair genius. A wizard. A brilliant godmother of extensions. If you can’t tell by my relentless verbal genuflection, I can’t recommend this place highly enough. I will be back again. Thank you thank you thank you.

I’ve been to many salons within the 3 states that I’ve lived in, but this is by far the best all around salon I’ve been too! The versatility provided by the salon, as well as affordable prices makes this THE salon to go to in Oregon. I’ve switched between sew-​in and natural hair, either one I choose my hair comes out amazing. Charlisa is an amazing stylist, and really creates the relaxing ambiance at the salon. You get your money’s worth! Not only do I get what I’m paying before, but I also receive recommendations for hair styles and treatments that will keep my hair healthy for the long run. This salon not only treats ethnic hair but women of all hair types. This is the ONLY salon I will go to, and the ONLY salon I would recommend to friends and family!

I joined Unilocal just so I could write a review for this salon. My family and I recently relocated to the Portland area from Chicago, IL. I was concerned that it would take me forever to find someone to help me with my oldest daughter’s hair. I found Chadowboxx online and I was not disappointed. The staff was very friendly and professional. My daughter had an 11:30 appointment with Davita. When we arrived she was welcoming and ready to get started. She talked with me about how I care for my daughter’s hair and how I wanted it styled. After answering all my questions, I left my daughter in her care. Davita washed and styled my daughter’s hair in 90 minutes. She did a beautiful job. Both my daughter and I were very pleased. We scheduled our next appointment for 2 weeks. I’m happy to say that I have found a salon to assist me in managing my natural hair as well as my daughter’s hair. The staff was friendly and professional. Our stylist, Davita was timely and great with natural hair.

In my almost 20 years of living in Portland, I have NEVER been able to find a place to get my hair cut and styled with people who actually knew what to do with my hair type (I’d say it’s ~3C for all the curly hair experts out there – the point is it’s very curly.) After a botched cut years ago from a place I can no longer remember the name of, (yes, that long ago. I know. It’s bad.) ago I vowed never to put my precious locks in the hands of any other than my own.
However when I read the reviews of Charlisa and her business here on Unilocal,I pushed aside my hair-​trust-​issues and made an appointment…
and I am SO GLAD I did. She was so friendly, and made me feel comfortable in a situation that she knew would be stressful for me. She didn’t do or cut anything without telling me in detail beforehand, to make sure I didn’t leave in tears.
On top of that, she gave me some great recommendations for products (but didn’t pressure me to buy any expensive ones) and also gave me so many tips for how to style my hair in the way she knew I wanted.
If you have curly hair and need a trim or even a full on new style, I recommend. If you have any other kind of hair texture… I still recommend. 100%. I’ll be back in a few weeks to get a trim too! My hair is healthy and I am happy!!!

Now I’m giving 5! «Why» you ask…
After reading my review, Charlisa (the owner) called me to personally apologize for my experience. She asked if I would be willing to come in for a complementary service because that is not the standard she holds her business up to. I was really impressed by Charlisa’s professionalism and she explained that she would be the one doing my hair. Although hesitant at first, I decided to give Chadowboxx a 2^nd chance.
GREAT DECISION!!! When I arrived at the salon it was only Charlisa and I. She gave me her full attention and really took time applying color to my fro. I was hungry and she even offered to pick me up something from the restaurant across the street while I waiting for my color to lift.
The color came out amazing. I had dyed my hair darker with a few highlights over a year ago and my new light color was a total transformation that I instantly fell in love with. She also tinted my eyebrows and they are BEAUTIFUL!
She was very knowledgeable about natural hair and even recommended a few great product (I tried them out at the salon and I want to buy them all now.).
When coloring was finished, Charlisa put in a quick twist out and sat me under the dryer for about 15 minutes so I wouldn’t leave with wet hair and I scheduled my nest appointment!
The next morning, I woke up to untwist my hair and it looked fabulous. Everyone one at work was full of complements!

Just had my second appointment with charlisa and am yet again a very satisfied customer! Not only did I have a great relaxer from her, but at this second appointment I found that she did an amazing color/​highlight on me! She is a very talented stylist, and has a professional and classy salon. She is also an amazing and warm person, with a kind heart and great ear! Thanks again charlisa!

Oh goodness I thought that I wrote this review after my last visit to Chadowboxx but it seems not! Oh well I can tell you all of the things now. (If you don’t want to hear me babble on you can skip to the last paragraph and I’ll sum it up in a more tidy fashion!)
I originally set my appointment with Charlisa Jackson after reading several positive reviews I had found online and calling in to ask about whether or not she thought she could install a full sew-​in weave on me. I had called around to a couple of places looking for a new stylist, after having lost my old one when they moved across country, and was told by two different women that caucasian hair couldnt take braiding because it was too fine. They didn’t want me! I am no stranger to weave installation on this snow white head of mine, so I was aware that this information was incorrect.
By the time I called Charlisa I was beginning to be frightened I wouldn’t be able to find anyone to take my money! Quite to the contrary, she patiently listened to my anxious babbling and waved away any worry I had. Her expertise was evident from the start, she fixed my hotmessness in no time (seriously she works fast), and I ran around looking flawless for a FULL EIGHT WEEKS before I needed to pop in and have some hair maintenance done.
The point is: I have never in my weavexistence found a salon that I came to cherish so much in such a brief period of time. Charlisa, Eris, And Devita are warm and personable and the salon is always filled with laughter and an air of relaxation and pampering. The prices are incredibly fair, and if you aren’t getting in here then you’re missing out. I’m so happy, also I look really good you guys. Like, really good.

Another great experience at Chadowboxx Salon. Although I am accustomed to receiving services from Charlisa who is amazing! This time I went to Eris Flowers. I explained to Eris that I suffered a bad chemical scalp burn using an at home relaxer. This changed the texture of some of my hair to be more course and unmanageable. Eris was very careful and thorough with my wash and smoothing treatment. I can’t believe how smooth and soft my hair is after the smoothing treatment. After a bad chemical burn I didn’t think I could get such great results from the smoothing treatment. I love my hair again! Thanks Eris and Charlisa!

Great, great experience! She knows what she’s doing with natural hair and is super friendly. I just moved to Portland and was nervous about finding a new stylist. I can’t believe I found such a good one on my first try!

Let me just say that the only reason Ms. Charlisa did not receive 5 full stars is because of a minor scheduling issue that caused her to run about an hour behind for our appointment (but hey, it happens to the best of us)… That being said, I can’t say enough about this fabulous lady! I am a Caucasian woman who, after being «butchered» at a different salon, was looking to add some length and volume to my brunette hair with some sew in extensions. I’m an extensions/​weave virgin and was not sure exactly what to expect. I scheduled a consultation at Chadowboxx and was thrilled with the sincerity and professionalism with which I was treated (and just for the record, she was right on time for our consultation)! Charlisa has such a vibrant and sweet personality, and she really set my mind at ease. She answered every question I had thoroughly, and I was truly impressed with her knowledge and passion for hair! I left the consultation with a huge smile on my face, knowing I had made the right decision in choosing Chadowboxx Salon.
On the day of the appointment, Charlisa was very apologetic about running behind, and got to work on my hair as soon as her other client was finished. She was so easy and fun to talk with, and before I knew it, the 2 hours it took to finish my hair just flew by. Now that the extensions are in, I will say it takes a little getting used to LOL! My hair looks sexy as hell, but my poor scalp is a bit tender. As I said, I am a weave novice and haven’t had my hair braided since I was about 15 years old! I think once the ibuprofen kicks in and a few days pass, I’ll get a bit more used to this feeling. All I have to say is that I have a whole new respect for those that have been weaving it up for years: P
I will also admit that I’m a bit nervous that I won’t get my hair to look half as good as it did when I left the salon, as it is a bit courser than my natural hair, but I’d rather have to spend a little extra effort on the weave than go around with an unflattering haircut!

I went to Chadowboxx to get my natural hair cut and pressed. First of all I was very impressed by the result, my hair feels very light and there is an incredible shine to it. The cut Charissa gave me suits me very well but in addition to the great haircut I also had a great experience getting my hair done by Charissa. We had a great conversation and she made me feel right at home on my first visit. I will definitely be returning.

«Perfection»…I travel a lot, and have been to many salons in pretty much every major city in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. And this was the first time I EVER went in with a picture of a style and color that I wanted and got exactly what I asked for! Charlisa «Nailed It»… It was so perfectly like the photo I gave her it felt like I had been «Photoshopped»
She is very knowledgeable on styles, products and current trends. Almost anyone can go to school and learn techniques Charlisa has «Talent» she is a natural! I watched her cut, color, relax, and style her clients so effortlessly it was amazing to watch. She’s that good!!!
