My roommate and I recently moved into a new apartment and needed to stock up on our board game selection.
Normally we would just shop on Amazon but when we were walking around town, we found this little gem.
Staff was friendly and asked if we needed any help finding a game that suited us but, we decided to just look around on our own.
The store was well stocked and the games were organized by the categories they fit into.
You can also rent popular games for $ 5.
If you check in on Unilocal they give you 20% off.
The prices are slightly more expensive than if you bought them online but I rather support a small business.

This place was so helpful when I went in looking for a game! I ended up renting a game for 3 nights for $ 5. That’s a good deal, especially because you can apply that $ 5 to the cost of buying that game. The biggest downside is the cost of games is a lot, BUT you are supporting a local business.

Super friendly staff, happy to make recommendations. The space feels like home, not like the boring sterile environments of most other game stores. Great selection of boardgames for all tastes, and also lots of puzzles and children’s games. Game rental shelf is also a unique offering, really great idea for trying before you buy. For those so inclined they also sell beer to enjoy while gaming :)

Ok ok, so it’s been almost a year since I have been here but I need to review.
Our family and a friends family were visiting Portland for the first time and we’re having an in night since the kids passed out. My buddy and in saw this place and hopped in and we’re looking for a game. The people in the place were the NICEST people in the world! They spent what felt like hours helping us pick a game that would satisfy our board game love and also be great for the ladies. They were evening getting to closing and instead of ushering us out they wanted to make sure we had a great game and a great time.

There are a wide array of cool games in here, including big board games, 2 player, dot to dot for kids, card games, and a bunch of other games. There is also a big bowl of dice for ¢50 each, which is awesome.
The only downside is that everything is slightly overpriced.
It smells good in there. The staff is nice and the place is clean.
I would probably come back here.

My son is enjoying putting his Pokemon cards to real use (as opposed to just buying and hoarding!) at the Cloud Cap Saturday AM Pokemon league.
The employees of this store are great too! Warm & Funny people.
The events they organize bring fun, costumes gamers into the store! It’s just a real treat to have this place in Portland!

Cool and hip place if you are a gamer… you can even rent board games before you buy them! Well worth driving into Sellwood for games… Its a must!

The selection of games is astonishing, there’s a little you won’t find here. One of the cashiers was helpful with details and recommendations, but another one was hyper objective and dry. Overall, you won’t have a bad time.

This store is totally as good as the reviews promise. If you are a games expert or a newbie, go here! Go go go!

I am very happy to see a board game store for people who seriously love their board games (read: play more than monopoly) that doesn’t feel like it’s run out of somebody’s basement. It’s actually well-​lit, inviting, and has a fantastic selection of board games. I’ve already bought two games that are very difficult to find in stores (android, mansions of madness) anywhere else.
The service is a little less excited-​to-​see-​you than I’d like, unfortunately. However, they are very knowledgeable and helpful. The space is also a little small but that doesn’t stop them from holding game nights! They also allow you to rent games which I think is a great feature.
Overall, if you love board games this a very good find.

I came here because I wanted to buy Sushi-​go and Machi Koro. Coincidentally, they had a game of machi koro set up here! It was meant to be, and I ended up buying the game.

I know a great dealer down in Sellwood. Yeah, they’re a little out of the way, but they’ve got the best stuff in the area. Just ask for James and Kirsten and Ben, and they will treat you like family.
Looking for collector deck-​building card games? Jigsaw puzzles? Children’s games? Family games? Dense, long board games? Casual, lighter card games? They’ve got it all, and they got the good stuff. Way better than your father’s crap like Monopoly.
Not sure you’re ready to commit to games? You can rent out from a staple collection for a few bucks. Be warned, it is a slippery slope that leads to an empty wallet but a lot of fun.
Looking to meet with similarly minded addicts? Stop by Wednesday nights for some debauchery. They may even serve alcoholic beverages soon, and nothing gets more crazy than board games and beer simultaneously.

Friendly, great game choices for all ages, enthusiastic owners… a wonderful place. We were able to find fantastic choices for my non-​rule following 6 year old neice, my independent 16 year old and my mostly organized sister.

One of the gems of Sellwood. If you’re a gamer, this is a must see. Even if you’re not a gamer, the folks at Cloud Cap will turn you in to one. LOVE this place and will be one of the things I miss most about living here…

We happened to be staying across the street from this place and wandered in. They rent games like video stores rent movies! You can rent a game (like Settlers of Catan) for three nights for $ 5. Not bad! They have a really big selection of board games and puzzles to buy, as well. And they have a big room where they host game nights and you can try out open games. What a great idea!

Cloud Cap is pretty awesome. The owners/​employees are super nice, helpful, and quick to offer honest suggestions and opinions on games. It is the only game store that comes to my mind that focuses 100% on board games (no MTG, miniatures, etc.) which is refreshing to me.
They have open play times two nights a week and from what I’ve seen, the tables fill up pretty quickly. It seems like a lot of the players know each other and make CC a gathering spot. While they have two large tables in the side room, there is less play space here then some of the other game shops around town. My first board game tournament was played here and was a blast. I would love to see CC host them more often.
I recently learned that CC will give a 20% discount on preordered games; this is a great incentive to buy new games here.
They also have a section of games for renting. I have not used this service but it is a great idea and something I might take advantage of in the future.
The coffee shop next door is pretty great too! My recommendation is to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the games at Cloud Cap!

This place is wonderfully spectacular! Especially if you are looking for something free to do! I never would have dreamed of a board game mecca as wonderful as this. They honestly had every game I was looking for including a couple that I really want to try. As an added bonus they have several out to «sample» while you are there. Plus, if you need a cheap date night for three days $ 5 will let you rent a board game. What could be better!
I also recently went on a Wednesday night to their game night, and that put the icing on the cake to this place. I was by myself and did not know anyone yet I was very happily invited to play a game the moment I walked into the place. It does not matter your ability, if you do not know how to play they will teach you!
Highly recommend this place!

Huge supply of board games, as well as frequent Magic the Gathering and Pokemon tournies (people still do that?!) I mean, I’m at Portland on my honeymoon and this place has my newly minted husband seduced. He walked out with a zombie board game, a business card, and a deep regret that we live in Texas.

Nice and clean! Some game shops can be grungy and attract people who don’t practice stringent hygiene routines. This seemed family friendly, with lots of kids games, helpful staff and pleasing game arrangements. Some games are out to try. There’s a board with schedules for game nights and recommendations.
I like this place a lot! And we used the check-​in offer of 15% on Dominion, which knocked it down to $ 38.

What a cool store.
I’m a fan of games. Some games. Not mind games. Well, let me rephrase that. Not relationship mind games or silly manipulative interpersonal relationship games. I hate that crap. But I do like games that make my mind hurt — in terms of board games, video games, etc. And I like trivia, and social interaction games, and games of chance. I don’t get to play as often as I’d like, but when I do I thoroughly enjoy it.
I’ve played a ton of board games in my life and I’m frankly only so enamored with the classics — Monopoly, Parcheesi, Sorry, Risk, Stratego, etc. Milton Bradley and Parker Brothers definitely made some great games. But I want more.

This store has everything from über-​nerd stuff like D&D/Magic style RPG’s and 376-​sided die (the kind of stuff I’m not really in to) to innovative and inventive social, board, and mind games from the new innovators in gaming. You’ll find all sorts of lesser-​known brands here — games that expand on the old favorite ides and make them new again. Whether you are a MENSA type and in to SET or Quiddler or are craving something slightly more high brow than Apples to Apples, these guys have a ton of options and will help you find just the game you are looking for.
I just happened to be in the area with 20 mins to kill so I wandered in here and was kind of blown away. The space is comfortable and fully stocked. They have cool kids games and a good collection of gaming accessories. I walked out with a fun group game that involves trivia and betting — a nice mashup of two good genres in my book.
Friendly folks, locally owned, and a rad selection of cool fun games. There’s even a table in the back for some gaming action. Word.
