Columbia Farms U-Pick

I love this place!!! We’ve gone two years in a row now and love love love it! The drive-​up area is inviting, the family is super friendly and down to earth, and the produce is amazing. The owners honestly tell you which berries are having a good harvest, and why! I have a very large berry garden of my own and was impressed that they honestly told me which berries had not done well, and why. We got a ton of succulent boysenberries this year, cobbler until next summer is ready!

We went for the 2015 strawberry season. It’s a no frills farm where the main purpose is to go, pick your strawberries and have fun! We loved it. Hood strawberries we picked were sweet and flavorful. If you’re looking for a true farm like experience without any loud music, hay stacks, food and beer then this is the place for you. We will definitely go back.

Great you can order ahead to pick up and not worry about them running out. We aren’t into the U pick but it’s also very popular here. Friendly people here and really seems like a family operation. Further than some of the farms but worth the drive. We love the strawberries for making homemade freezer jam and also for our gelato machine. The strawberries are so sweet we cut back on the sugar.

This summer, I spent one of the most idyllic afternoons of my life here, picking raspberries and blueberries with my family. I actually took a Friday off from work to go, hoping to beat the notorious Sauvie weekend crowds. That strategy worked. Zero traffic getting onto the island (didn’t even see another car on the road that encircles the island), and we quite literally had the farm to ourselves. The weather was absolutely beautiful, it was so quiet and peaceful. Columbia Farms is fairly low key. They don’t have a bunch of add-​on activities, or a coffee shop or anything like that. Which is part of why I picked it. Again, hoping to avoid crowds and tourists. The few staff they have to ring up your picks are friendly, and overall it’s a great under-​the-​radar choice for berry picking. If all you want to do is pick some damn berries in peace, not have a Classic Oregon Berry Picking Experience™ alongside a zillion tourists, then this is the place for you.
The raspberry field is dusty, but the blueberry patch is filled with the softest grass ever. You can take your shoes off and pick blueberries barefoot. They have a very pleasant gazebo where you can sit and have a picnic lunch.

Very fair prices. All berries are $ 2 a pound you pick, and $ 3 already picked. The fields were neat, and easy to navigate. They are growing vegetables adjacent to the area where you pay. The biggest bonus though was that they keep their picked berries in a walk in so they’re much fresher than other places. I was impressed, and I will be back. Tasty boysenberries!
