Fantastic place to practice on pianos! Very kind and friendly staff. Renting out a room to play for 2 hours is only $ 2! I’m going there until I get my own piano but it’s perfect to play there, and they have gorgeous grand pianos available as well.

This place is FANTASTIC! My girls took violin(private and group) lessons here for 7 years, and group piano and music theory classes for 2 years. Rental rates are fair, the instruments are in good shape. The staff is top-notch!

The Community Music Center is perfectly Portland. This old firehouse is a small reasonably priced non profit music school for children and adults. They have a concert space to rent and free concerts all the time. If you are a recently arrived music teacher, they are an easy start point to teach. If you are looking for music lessons, especially group lessons, they are a great resource. Childrens’ music lessons. Good spot to bring children to hear free concerts. They also have instrument rental. They are partnered with the City of Portland Parks and Recreation department, another stellar example of your government at work. In the Peoples’ Republic of Portland, this is the place of the people’s, your, music!

In town on business and really wanted to practice piano. Walked right in to 2 available pianos. Make sure you donate some $ before you leave as they are providing a great public service.

I love this place. I’m here several times a week to practice piano. I’ve been to a few other free piano practice rooms about portland, and the pianos are all in pretty rough condition. The CMC has good pianos and some nice grands. They’re doing a really great public service and I’m so glad that there are for me!
