Courtyard Portland Downtown Convention Center

Nice hotel and good location. We ended up having to add an extra night and had no issues doing so with the front desk. Very friendly and helpful checking in too. Basic Marriott hotel and it was perfect for our weekend trip. I wanted to stay somewhere safe, clean & reasonable price. I had a pleasant stay here and had no issues when we stayed here in November 2013.

The hotel is awesome but the service in the bar is absolutely terrible. We sat at a table for 20 minutes before someone had came over. There qas a crowd at the rail and they tended to them first. Which is understandable but as a bartender this bar is so small with two servers so it’s a little ridiculous that it took so long for anything.

Typically clean Marriott, friendly staff and nice public spaces.
I hate the courtyard layout with a too small tv on one far side of the bed. Also, this is a very sketchy part of town so beware.

Pros: The bed was comfortable. The hotel is located at the center of town. The free bathroom goodies were pretty good. There was also a blowdryer to use. You could show up at this hotel with nothing but a toothbrush and deodorant and be fine with what they provide. The Groupon we purchased to pay for the room was affordable at 95 $.
Cons: The valet parking charge is really expensive. The rooms are a little bit small. The floor in the bathroom was a bit dirty and the furniture had a strange smell. Come to think of it, the room itself had a residual body odor-​like smell as well.
This is a 2 star average type motel that is pretending to be a 3 – 4 star hotel. The lobby looks very nice and gives the impression it is something it is simply not. I guess this is to be expected for downtown Portland.
DO NOT use this place if you are looking for luxury. It is about the same as a Holiday Inn or even a nicer Motel 6, plus a bottle of conditioner. I guess that makes it a 2.5.

Stayed here with my family for one night. This Hotel is top notch. The entire staff from the valet to the room service was exceptional. They were some of the most courteous and helpful people I have ever met. I don’t normally write reviews but I am going out of my way to give this staff a great rating on Unilocal,Trip Advisor, and make a personal call to the management.
Also because it was the holiday season, we got a free breakfast buffet. Amazing.
I’m still beaming at how happy I am with my stay.

I recently stayed here during a conference at the Portland Convention Center. Location is nice — easy walking distance to the convention center and lots of food options.
However, the only available parking is valet and therefore expensive. Also, as a first time visitor, they offered me complimentary buffet breakfasts (which costs $ 15, by the way), but then charged my card. When I called for a refund, they refunded my company card that paid for the room rather than my personal card that was charged… what a mess.
Bad organization, empty promises, and very expensive for a rather ordinary hotel.

I’ve stayed here 2 years prior to last weekends stay.
First visit we stayed 2 weeks. My husband is disabled and we were permitted to pull up to handicapped stalls and self park. It was great because his wheelchair needs to be put together and it takes time to assist him out of the car.
Well, the owners removed both spaces and its valet parking only. This is stressful for people with special needs. Trying to rush so that the next person doesn’t keep rolling there eyes waiting their turn.
Thank goodness the front desk staff were just as warm as before. So sweet. Well deserving of a star rating. You can’t buy that genuine hospitality. And of course we saw Our last visits waitress Magda at the restaurant and had to have breakfast there. She is one of your best assets. Don’t lose her. Another reason for a star
Our room was neat but. Kinda dirty. Walk in and the carpet smelled. We always kept our house slippers on. There was a botched up patched hole on the wall facing the next room. Looks like it was punched. Room 331.
Ahh the warm salt water pool!
First trip, We went there every day in the morning. Being from Hawaii, This was a huge selling point for us.
This trip not so much! Went there and it was so cold we just left.
What happened to this place? It’s so cooperate. The little things that made it wonderful. is now gone. Everything is money! Cheap and minimal. The intimacy is gone. Time to break up and find a new hotel. Same price with better features

Nothing bad to say about the hotel. The valet guys are great, the front desk staff was amazing. That being said, the bar staff was remarkably incompetent. So awful, it will keep me from staying there again.

They went from 4 stars to 1 star when they robbed us of $ 18 a day in SELF parking fees. No bueno my friends.
I am disabled and the parking spot was outside near the front entrance of the hotel which we parked our car ourselves and retrieved it ourselves when needed. The car never made it to the protection of the garage. When we checked in the staff never mentioned the parking fee. It was only when we checked out that we saw the daily fee. We will NEVER return here again.

I thought it was very nice, even if it was inconsistent. I stayed with two coworkers (separate rooms) and two of us were given early check-​in while the third was initially denied. Weird. Then one was granted a late check-​out, while I was denied… until I simply asked a different staff member – then I got it. Huh.
Also, when I inquired about the government rate for my two nights the employee told me he could only do it for one… until he tried to change it and the system forced him to apply the rate to both nights (which he told me). Oh, darn.
The beds were firm and very comfortable, and housekeeping left a very nice welcome note. My only real beef with the room was the shower, and it’s inability to not scald me. I had to have the water almost turned off to make it cool (and safe) enough to shower in.
If you’re in town for a convention, I do recommend this hotel. 5 min walk to the convention center and quiet.

A good, comfortable, but somewhat characterless hotel, clearly oriented toward business travelers. Located near the convention center, and having easy access to downtown Portland via MAX light rail or the Portland Streetcar, both with stations a couple of blocks away. Rooms are clean, in perfect working order, and unmemorable. A nice touch was a hand-​written welcome note from the chambermaid left on the bedside table at check-​in. The lobby restaurant has a fine, somewhat pricey breakfast buffet; I didn’t try them for lunch or dinner. There’s also a Denny’s and a Red Robin in the vicinity. The lobby bar, Charley’s, has decent drinks (including a few craft beers), and somewhat inexperienced bartenders, one of whom turned out to be a moonlighting med student. Front desk staff was helpful and friendly. Pool and exercise room. In short, no surprises, good or bad.

To put it bluntly, this place is kind of gross. The rooms are dated and the bathrooms are too. For the price you pay you get trash, grapes, some sort of unidentified nuts that look like they came off of an ice cream cone on the side of the mattress, stains on the wall, and to top it off popcorn ceilings. But don’t worry, they will leave you a note saying that they take pride in cleaning the rooms. The only «nice» parts of this hotel are the main lobby area, bar, and restaurant. Will not recommend or stay again.
UPDATE: We spoke to the manager and had high hopes of him making things right. We told him about all the gross stuff that had been left behind in the room from previous occupants, and after we had to turn down dinner because of conflicting plans he said «you will have something waiting for you in your room upon your return». So our «special» surprise was a random tray of what appears to be leftovers from the kitchen??? We had put the random grape on the floor in a cup and it’s still here, trash is still on the floor, stains still on the wall. Bed is made, much to our surprise. What a joke!!!
UPDATE #2: The manager said they would refund part of the stay. $ 55 was refunded. Good thing it was over $ 200 a night. Horrible experience!

The five stars can be attributed to the friendly and helpful employess. This is not to say that the amenities are subpar, but the staff is what compelled me to write this review. I went on a two week road trip from southern California up to Portland with my husband and one year old son. This Marriott was one of seven hotels in which we stayed. To serve as a contrast to our great experience here, we stayed two nights at the Tenaya Lodge in Yosemite where I found the staff to be flaky and incompetent, and the services to be pretentious and overrated.
To get back to our Courtyard Marriott experience, our room was clean and well equipped with all the amenities described. One of the challenges of traveling with a toddler is the accoutrements they require and the staff was quick to respond to our request for a crib and a microwave. I also found the parking attendants, the restaurant hostess, and waitresses to be equally amiable. One of the days we were there, we stayed four nights, was National Root Beer Float day. There was a root beer float station set up in the lobby with a hotel employee offering to make treats for guests.
As someone who travels as much as I can and has stayed in all manner of accommodations, from five star hotels to couchsurfing, I am not too picky about where I lay my head at night. As someone who spent years in the customer service industry, I am sensitive to the care with which people give their clients. I was thoroughly impressed by the entire staff’s attentiveness.

Very good service at this hotel. Check in is quick and smooth. Rooms are on the smallish side, but laid out well.
Beds are fairly firm and seem new. Writing this review prior to a shower on this trip, but past trips have been unexceptional.

We could not have been more impressed with this hotel this past weekend. In town to meet other out of town guests, we stayed Friday and Saturday nights. The highlights:
1)The staff here were outstanding, from every single housekeeping person to bar tenders to the front desk to the valets. Every employee made eye contact with us, every employee said hello, how are you, how is your day, have a nice day, thank you for staying with us, etc. From the moment we arrived we felt very very welcome and relaxed. Special honorable mention to Lauren at the front desk. She had a back up phone charger I borrowed one night (more important than a toothbrush, I might dare to say!) and she found my wife a courtesy pair of (new) cell phone ear buds she could have to make her morning jog survivable. Outstanding customer service!
2) the rooms were spacious and felt extra roomy, being arranged a bit unconventionally, with the bed facing the window wall instead of the TV wall, the windows opened (a bit) for some cool evening air and not-​at-​all disturbing sounds of the city below. Also, the blackout screens on the windows worked so much better than conventional draperies.
3) the housekeepers put a hand written note on the bed before we arrived, wishing us a comfortable stay, offering to help out with anything extra we might need. A nice touch! We tip housekeepers typically. These folks got a handsome surprise! Thank you for being so considerate and professional.
Yep, 5 stars. Five stars should be hard to get, but if you work as hard as this hotel did to earn them, you’ll get them! I know we’ll stay here again.

Great location for lodging if you are participating at the Convention Center or going to an event at the MODA Center. Rooms are nicely furnished. Nice «sit-​down» Restaurants are scarce in the area. Charley’s on Grand is off the hotel lobby and is pretty good. Front Desk personnel are very helpful and have a great attitude. We will come back and lodge here.
TIP: If your room overlooks NE Grand Ave it’s a very busy street and noisy. Ask for a room overlooking NE Clackamas Street. Another option: ask to have your room overlooking the car entrance — courtyard.

We stayed here last weekend. It was inexpensive and mostly wonderful. My husband was impressed with the staff and said they were all nice. The valets were really great. The room was clean, the bed comfortable and there were lots of plugs in the room for chargers.
I’m taking one star off because I had an awkward encounter with the front desk staff. I went down to buy some snacks and one lady said «Do you have a microwave in your room?» And I said «Yes I think so» and as I walked away I clearly heard the other clerk say «There’s not one in her room, she’ll be back» in a giggle sort of tone. But she didn’t say anything to me, attempt to stop and help me or anything. I was embarrassed by her, so I went upstairs and threw the snack away. It’s sad because every other person was incredibly nice and the rest of my family was very impressed.

I stay at a lot of hotels from 1 to 5 star facilities depending on where I am staying. There are places that only have 1 star hotels.
The Courtyard Marriott is a solid 3 star hotel, which is great for a business traveler.
This is a decent hotel that was near the Convention Center where my meeting was located. I was able to get a great rate on Hotwire, making this a better value.
The big problem is the cost of overnight parking, $ 24. I could have parked on the street, however I had my trunk full of things for my event, so I didn’t want to risk the street parking. The neighborhood isn’t that great.
The room was clean and in good shape as was the lobby. The service was up to the Marriott standard.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel for the area.

The last of three hotels that I stayed at while visiting Portland last month was this Courtyard hotel in the Lloyd District area. Found a good deal on a night here via Priceline. Paid just under $ 65. Great considering the nightly rates on the hotel website are nearly three times that price.
The location is awesome. It is just two blocks away from the MAX station which is served by three different lines. And in the last year, a new Portland Streetcar line (CL) has opened that runs on the same street as the hotel. There is a stop in close proximity to the hotel. The hotel offers parking for a somewhat high fee ($ 18 self-​park or $ 21 valet), so if you arrive in Portland, I would say that taking public transit would be a better option. Especially since a day pass is only $ 5.
The lobby of the hotel is beautiful and modern. A nice touch is the complimentary coffee and tea they offer here. I had arrived at the hotel several hours before the check-​in time, but I decided to take a chance to see if a room was available. Fortunately it was and I could check-​in early.
Got a room on the top floor with a decent view to the east. The room was quite large with room for a sofa and coffee table. The hotel facilities seem to be well acquainted with a fitness room with the essentials that I was able to utilize. There is also an indoor pool as well.
Though there are many nice amenities, there were a few dings about staying here. I had a lot of trouble with their Wi-​Fi. I was not able to use it for most of my stay. Particularly had trouble accessing Unilocal.Go figure. It only started working later that night and in the morning the next day.
There are also a few items that were missing from the room including a fridge and a hair dryer which were available in the other two hotels (with a lower star rating). The layout of the room I stayed in was a bit awkward as well. Specifically, the bed was not facing directly towards the TV unless you wanted to turn your body sideways to see it. Nor was the sofa in close distance to the TV either.
I will say the quality of the rooms are better than the other two hotels that I stayed at, but it feels like they are missing a few comforts here. I would however still recommend this hotel if you are looking for accommodations close to downtown Portland with plentiful public transit options nearby to get around the city.
