This restaurant is in the Marriot Hotel. It’s on the second floor. I went on Monday night with a friend. The restaurant was quiet so we got good service. I ordered the cheese plate which came with three different cheeses and and crackers. Also get bread with your meal, not sure if it was included but it was delicious. We both ordered the local salad. It was really good but very small. I would have wanted two salads had I known how small they were.

Gave this place a try since the portland dining month menu sounded amazing and it did not disappoint! The atmosphere of the place is not that of a typical trendy portland eatery, but I consider that a positive given that my friends and I could converse at a normal level and actually hear each other. The quality of the food was fantastic! My friends and I can be pretty critical of food, but the census was superb. Chef Aaron Arko knows what he’s doing! Do yourself a favor and give his menu a try.

Went for the Portland Dining Month special menu. The food gets five stars. Lovely blue cheese crusted filet, delicious risotto, big serving of crème brûlée for dessert. Service gets four stars — they were extremely nice and helpful, could use some additional training(that’s on the front of the house manager). Ambiance is okay, but not as good as the food. Overall very impressed with the chef, would definitely return

We had the most delicious food here. We were quite surprised by the quality and creativity of the chef. We ordered the Portland Dining Month meals, and were blown away for the well thought-out menu. Everything went really nice together(a VERY good steak, good polenta fries, and amazing bourbon crème brûlée). We generally like to avoid hotel restaurants, but this was one we were glad we hit. The ambiance is nice, but does have that bright-light/hotel-restaurant-like feel, especially when we were 1 of only 3 tables. Waitress was friendly, service was good. I’d highly recommend it as a Portland Dining Month destination, and next time look forward to trying something new!

I have never had anything less than awesome from the DEN. Their Bourbon Burnside Wings blow my mind, and with a side of truffle fries? YUMMY!

We had such a great meal, good service, quiet, romantic, this past Saturday night… My wife and I were here for the 3 course meal special. Had not been here before but felt that Den offered the best options. Oddly, it was a slow evening, not many patrons but that just meant we had window seating and a generally quiet dinner. The food: our portions were generous, cooked perfectly. She had the king salmon and I had the petit filet. Emanuel was our server, thanks again!

Kaitelynn Worthington and Joel Wacobi. Please ask for them! Seriously the most amazing duo. We came in for happy hour and got a slew on knowledge of local places to eat and drink. I honestly could not be more happy with the both of them. We had such a wonderful time talking to both of them. We came to Portland on a whim and couldn’t be more excited we met the both of them. We will be recommending our friends and our clients to marriott and the den for happy hour. We both left with a huge smile on face!!! Amazing service!

This place has potential and it might be a great place in another city but it fails in Portland. My first complaint has to do with the bathrooms. I stopped into this Marriott before awhile back to use a restroom and remembered having to go up the stairs and deep into the restaurant only to find a locked bathroom. When I asked about using it, they said«for guests only.» I asked politely again and was rebuffed. Fast forward to a few nights ago when I was out holiday shopping with my girlfriend. She had to go to the bathroom so we decided to pop into the Marriott for a drink and to use the facilities. As I climbed the stairs, I flashed back to my earlier experience. When we asked about the bathroom, we were told to use our«room key.» When I told them we weren’t guests in the hotel, they said they’d get us a key. 10 minutes later and we still hadn’t rec’d a key. When we asked again, our waitress went looking for it only to return with a key fastened to a fork, kind of like what you’d find at a gas station. By this time, both of us had to go but we only had one key. So my GF went first and then I waited for her to return before I went. When I got in the bathroom, it had 2 toilets and a urinal. So we are in a nice downtown hotel that locks their bathrooms up as if they had gold TP. On top of that, the prices where higher than what I would expect to pay in Portland($ 10 for a Spanish Coffee, $ 14 for Pizza Margarita). Service was so, so, and the ambiance was purely corporate. Me thinks I will not return. If you are visiting Portland, GETOUTOFTHISHOTELANDGOSEETHEREALCITY.

One of the better hotel bars I’ve come across. Very pleasant bar tending staff. Good top shelf selection as well as food menu. Check out there plentiful salads! It’s located on the second floor of the Marriot hotel on Broadway.

This is a pretty standard hotel restaurant, with all the usual trappings(or lack thereof). Reasonably priced food, including some locally-sourced options. They used to have a really great clam chowder, but I think the recipe has changed — it’s still good, just not as awesome as it was before they became«The DEN»(as opposed to «The Mez», which is what they were before their remodel). I was going to give 3 stars, but Joel, the bartender, gets 1 extra star just for being awesome. I stayed at this Marriott almost 100 nights in 2013, and as a result spent many evenings winding down at the bar here. Joel is just the right amount of friendly and is great at suggesting drinks and/or making new ones up to suit your mood. In short, this place might not be worth a special trip, but is a great place to drop in if you’re staying at the Marriott, or are in the vicinity looking for a quick bite, a strong drink, or a spot of conversation. There’s also ample space for working or hanging out with a few people, with plenty of couches and armchairs in the lounge area across from the bar.

HAPPYHOURREVIEW 4:00−6:00pm Daily Food Deals $ 4.00−5.00 The standard options on the typical bar menu, but they have standards, so the quality is there: wings, hummus, quesadilla, onion rings, Caesar, and a cheese plate. Drink Specials $ 5.00 drafts, wine, or wells Atmosphere Formerly the Mez, on the very grand gallery-like mezzanine level of the Marriott. Rich dark woods, decorative moldings, and a rotating artist showcase set the stage for elegance. Or hang out in the beautiful, typically empty lobby area. Makes me want to be all business-y to drink, eat, and network. Or maybe just do the first two.

It should be a 3 stars but I increased it because of the experience and overall atmosphere. The bar area is pretty large w/tables dispersed throughout and at the end, there is a small sofa accompanied by 2 chairs on each side, and mounted on the wall is a nice flatscreen TV for sports. He ordered an Indian IPA(or something like that) and I had a diet soda. They do not have Coke Zero or Diet Coke but Diet Pepsi worked fine however, they charge for my refill and the 2nd time around she gave me regular Pepsi *gasps* I did not want to be a pain the ass so I let it be but I really did not like drinking regular soda. If you saw my check ins and photos of what I have eaten that day(Sunday, Nov. 25th), you’d be terrified– I made my version of huevas rancheros w/pork ribs, half a box of chocolate and hazelnut cookies from Trader Joe’s, a bacon burger on Texas Toast(Trial by Fire) at Munch Box, bleu balls(appetizer at Rogue), a Kobe Philly cheesesteak at Rogue, and a lot of bites out of 2 cuts of pizza from Sizzle Pie, and I think that was it. I seriously was still hungry. I know, WTF, right? I CAN eat. I kind of wanted food here but I didn’t want to rack up the bill. Surprisingly the menu was quite extensive, simple, and very affordable — not like how most hotels are. Oh, I forgot to mention that this place is located on the 2nd floor at Portland Marriott City Center. There are 2TV screens(one by the bar and one in the little lounge area we were at). I loved how we were technically the only ones there.

Went here for a lowkey dinner, and specifically went because they promoted local food(as so many places in downtown Oregon do). However, I… really didn’t see details of this upon entering the place. Not that I needed a Portlandia-esque detail of which farm my chicken came from and who his friends were, but a teeny bit of info would have been nice. Food was… very average. I got the large chef salad and a side of mac and cheese, which I honestly think was boxed mac and cheese. At the time I really didn’t care, since I was still hungover from a wedding the night before, but I wouldn’t get it again. Wine and service were great, but I don’t think it would be worth coming back for.

Staff super friendly and warm. The place was decorated similarly. The building I’ve found from the AGM was built only 11 years ago so it didn’t surprise me the restaurant felt a bit more up-to-date than others within a hotel. Sat down for breakfast and got the french toast cinnamon rolls with a side of eggs over easy and bacon. Came out quick and the french toast was a nice mouthful of awesome. I wish the syrup was not as runny but it was sufficient. One of the rolls was slightly undercooked but nothing that would potentially upset the stomach. Eggs and bacon are hard to botch and they came out nice.
