The tour was great. Jessie was an excellent tour guide, he was very informative without being pretentious or sounding like he was reciting a rehearsed tour speech. We spoke with him after the tour and he mentioned that he was personally responsible for the tasting room décor. He was given a ton of creative license and it showed in his passion for the craft. Geary’s brewery is close to Allagash, Bissell Bros, Austin Street and Foundation Brewerys but a little further into the industrial park. You should definitely check it out even though it’s not right off the main road like the other brewerys are. Gearys had a good variety of brews when we went on the tour and they all treated great. They had plenty of beer for sale(to take home) as well as shirts, metal signs, posters, etc. They also have a huge outdoor seating area(much bigger than the Allagash area) and their mailbox is even a keg!

The brewing facility looked to be rather large but the tasting area/merch area was about the size of an average bedroom with only a couple stools. Luckily it was a nice day and they had a number of chairs and cornhole set up outside in the parking lot area. The place smelled so moldy that we had a debate whether the smell wafting from the place was affecting the taste of the beer or whether the beer itself had a weird taste. Taking the beer farther from the door proved that the beer was perfectly fine. They had 5 beers on tap when we went($ 2 for 5oz, $ 4 for 10oz, $ 7 for a full pint and you keep the glass). None of the options were all that cold but we definitely liked at least a couple of the options. None of their beers were all that bad and assuming the place gets that smell under control I would definitely recommend stopping by here when you’re on your Portland beer tour(there are 5 breweries in this direct area) but if you only have time for one or two breweries, skip this one.

Beer is below average. Brewery experience is non existing and girl pouring beer was grumpy. Not a fun brewery experience. I hope they improve the craft beer quality. They should come out with a few high end special brews.

It was pretty much enjoyable experience for me to taste some of their home-brewed beers. I had IPA, pale ale, summer ale and porter. Everything was perfect. My only concern is, however, the way how they run business. They had better invest more in marketing and distribution. As long as they have the longest history in micro-brewing in northeast coast, they should leverage its history as a marketing slogan. Since tastes are so nice, they should be successful if they do sales and marketing in a proper way.

Didn’t do a tour, but we did a tasting. The beer was good and we learned a lot about how the company originated. Seems like a family run business. Would go back for another tasting.

I don’t think I’ll ever go on a better brewery tour: At the beginning of the tour, our tour guide(Curt) took us to show us the tanks where they stored freshly brewed beer, which at the time was the first batch of summer ale. He proceeded to pour 16oz beers for himself and everyone in our party. Then Curt took us on a very in-depth tour of the facility. The whole thing took about an hour, and we made a pit stop to refill our cups about halfway through. It was great because Curt wasn’t a hired tour guide; he was a someone who worked there and knew the process

So I was in the area and have always wanted to tour the place. Made the drive down there from Freeport and called on the way — no answer. Should have been my first warning sign. Needless to say we got there at 3:15 and the door was locked. Dude opened the door and said they were closed. Not even 10 seconds later he comes out with his stuff and jumps in the car and bolts. The posted hours are until 4pm so you guys suck for wasting my time.

Geary’s Pale Ale is the real deal! It is a local legend, and for good reason. To be honest, I wasn’t much of a fan of the rest of the samples. However, I went through a cycle of Geary’s Pale Ale after trying it here.

Perhaps the most interactive tour I’ve ever been on… I have never been so close to all the steps of the brewery process — even getting so close as to go on the rails & look into the fermenting tanks. That said, the tour was very informal, but I learned a lot about the history of Geary’s. We even got to try beer straight from the tanks since they don’t have a tasting room.

The most informal of brewery tour I’ve ever been on. You have to call them ahead of time to schedule a visit because they pull one of their brewers off the line to give the tour. Our«tour guide» started off the tour by giving us some Summer Ale straight from one of the tanks. The brewery itself is not that big so the tour lasted for about 15 minutes really. And unlike some brewery tours, there’s no red tape areas here so we got to go everywhere and see every part of the brewing process, like peer into the tanks. Overall, I thought the tour was just ok and would’ve liked a bit more structure to it. But this is a good tour if you want to get all chummy with a brewer. This is definitely not a brewpub. I am confused about what Chad’s comments in the previous review.

By far the best brewery tour I have ever been on! Normally they do tours at 2:30pm M-F, but you have to call ahead. We called and they said, «How about 2pm?» They literally just called a guy and he came over to give us the tour. Curtis started off by plugging a hose into a giant brew tank and pouring us some Hampshire Ale. This was the most in-depth, up close tour I’ve ever had. We got to peer into the top of the fermenting tanks, got a look at the jugs of yeast in the fridge and saw the glue gun the they used to seal the boxes. These people are the true definition of micro-craft brewing. Excellent beer. p. s. — Not sure what place the last guy was reviewing, but this place is most certainly just a brewing place, not a pub.
