Elite Event @ Working Artists Gallery – - Phone Book Mash-Up

Sorry for the delay on the review. I’m easily sidetracked these days!
I’m excited to see the finished art projects. They all sounded pretty awesome. I wonder what the phone book count was that night and what it has grown to now…
Downside — The studio got so warm with so many people and those lights. Plus those stairs were scary.
Funny — That little boy’s reaction to the belly dancer. I’m just guessing that was the first time he has seen someone move like that (I thought she did great!)
End on a positive note — Great drinks (so crisp and refreshing!), great food (the chicken and mango scewers and the desserts were delicious), and great people (Yeeps and artists alike!).

A BIG thank you to all the Unilocal Elite and Selected Artists who attended our kick-​off party for the PHONE BOOK MASH UP. It was such a pleasure having you all there!!! We’ll keep you all up to date on the progress of the artists and their works via our Blog at
. I can hardly wait until our 3 months of frenzied creativity comes to fruition at our final exhibition and performances — and we hope to see you all there! And as soon as we know about the Studio Tour bus we’ll be sure to let you all know too.

Yes, I did get dusted last night. And my back still hurts.
I’ll leave the rest to you.
I missed the details of the phone book projects, because I was taking advantage of the reduced competition for food and drinkydrink. I think I ate about half of those meatveggies.
Mango Catering, I wish there was any chance I’d have an event catered. All your stuff was awesome.
Yeeps. Yeeps. We could have an elite event in a landfill and if there was booze you all would make it awesome.
Not that WAG is a landfill. I didn’t see a seagull the whole time I was there. Maybe it was all those halogen lights. They sent Danielle into near hysterics. That was awesome. What the hell DID happen to you, Danielle?

Awesome event Laura. Way to combine food, elite folks, inspiration, art, booze, and fun! Always creative, always inventive, never repetitive. I am definitely looking forward to the next one.
There were some major down-​sides to this event, however:
A) it was the night before my final, so I couldn’t enjoy the Dry soda cocktails. I have always wondered how well those things would serve as mixers, but at $ 4 per 16oz, I have never been rich enough to try.
B) It was the night before my final and I had to leave right at 9pm, so I didn’t get a chance to even really say hi to Andrew, Brandon, Danielle, and… well… just about everyone!
C) It was the night before my final and I couldn’t go to the after-​party at the Dockside.
Of course, neither Laura, Unilocal,Working Artists, or anyone else but law school is to blame for my final being today, and… oh, wait, I have a FINAL TODAY! CRAP! I better quit Unilocaling and go study!
Thanks again for the awesome event Laura!!! I can’t wait to see how the phone books turn out!

For the record, I only ate one baby. I compensated for it by acting like a mom — warning about burnt fingers, beating dust off the boys’ nice shirts, issuing stern looks at exposed cleavage — the rest of the evening. Maybe there are hormones in Dry Soda.
Another fun and interesting event, and it was great to meet some Yeeps for the first time. The cocktails and catering were top notch, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to explore a part of Portland that is entirely new to me (and that’s something after 17 years here).

1 part Mandarin Absolut
2 parts Dry Soda — Kumquat
Pour over ice in a tall sugar-​rimmed glass
Garnish with a baby kumquat*
Upon finishing the drink, eat the baby
*Kumquats for garnish should be marinated for 2 days in Grand Marnier

+ Gin, vodka, and kumquats? Check.
+ Amazing art and amazing artists? Check.
+ Sweet and spicy catering? Mmm… check!
+ Chronic Persperators Anonymous? Ohhh… check.
+ Totally inspirational bellydancing? Check.
+ Brandon B., the Babyeater? Yup. Check.
+ Laughing so hard I’m brought to tears and handed a tissue by JW over photos of a Cockapoo? UNFORTCH. But check. Big, fat check.
+ All of the above AND great company? Check, check, check.
Looks like we had all the makings for a wonderful evening and a wonderful event! (And it WAS wonderful! Thanks, Laura!)

Damn, those were good cocktails and I didn’t get carded or 86’ed or nothing. Sheet, I luv it!
I’m really looking forward to seeing what the artists make out of our phone books and I want to gitmo, gitmo, gitmo! (Pumping arm in a horizontal motion!!)
Very great party!
After party was cool too, it brought up the movie The Hunted with Benicio del Toro and Tommy Lee Jones and that it was pretty lame movie. Drinks were cheap and quesadillas were cheaper.

Those vodka and kumquat cocktails — yummy!
The company five stars all the way. So fun to FINALLY meet people in person and do the whole «you look nothing like I thought» dance.
Thanks to Laura and everyone who made the event possible. Now I feel «official.»

Wow wow wow, Unilocalers sure do clean up all nice like!
If the amazing Dry soda vodka/​gin creations, plus the ridiculously delicious catered treats, plus the company, plus watching Gabe cart a box of 30 phone books up 3 flights of stairs, plus watching the adorably shy artists describe something that they are utterly passionate about, plus, plus…
Basically, if all this wasn’t 5-​star worthy enough… watching the little boy squirm at the sight of the belly dancer pushed me over the edge.
Thank you all for making this one my favorite so far. I admit I have a strong bias for Lisa and her magic mangos. (Thanks Brandon B for warning me about potentially burnt fingers!)
