This store is great! It has the variety of the best vintage shops in San Francisco and New York but the personalized service of a small town store. The owner is very knowledgeable and friendly.

I am a Bostonian but often go to Portland for a weekend getaway. I’ve been in this shop 3 times now. The owner is really great and she has a tremendous selection of high end vintage clothing, better than anything I’ve seen in Boston. She also has a good selection of contemporary items in there. Last time I was there I got a brand new with tags dress that fit like a dream, a pair of very cool vintage shoes and some accessories. This is a place that is worth going back to again and again. While you may find that on one visit you don’t find something, the next time you’ll score a bunch of amazing and unique pieces. There are also tons of cases of vintage jewelry that you could spend hours perusing through. From a pricing perspective you will find a good mix of high and low. Will definitely go back again. Wish they had a location in Boston!

For years as a New Yorker there were a few things which I would get giddy about doing whenever I’d leave town… visiting Encore is one of them. Forget vintage shopping anywhere in New York City, I would store up all of my desire for the hunt until my visits to Portland, Maine where I would giddily descend onto this gem of a vintage shop so chock full of wares that I could easily spend hours there(and I often do as witnessed by my multiple parking tickets). The accessories are varied and plentiful– as are the clothing. You can find designer vintage treasures and straight up vintage but most all of this store is elegant. This is not the place you go to find a vintage Skynrd tee shirt but rather a great dress or pair of killer reptile skin shoes to love until the end of time. Don’t forget the jewelry cases– they are chock full of unique finds and the owner is always there to help you find just the perfect thing. I almost hate sharing but it’s just not fair to keep it all to myself.
