My hair is thin and dry and Mackenzie makes it look full and healthy. She listens to what I say and makes sure I am happy with the finished product. She is personable, calm, and takes as much time as is needed, even if she needs to cut more hair off a few times. My husband likes my haircuts, too, and we would recommend Mackenzie and all the stylists at Evolution Hair Design. You will be glad you did.

Katie has been my hair dresser for almost 4 years now and I have never been happier! I have red hair, a big forehead and a lot of cowlicks which Katie handles all perfectly! I always leave happy and feelings beautiful. The salon is cute, clean and friendly. You can have coffee or tea while you wait and you just feel taken care of. I recommend her to all of my friends! Not overly priced and not pushy with getting you to purchase all of their products, which I truly appreciate.

Mark cut my hair many years ago & it was amazing enough to still remember & write a review for now! He also highlighted my very curly hair & it was phenomenal! By far the best salon in Portland! I have been having my hair cut and colored with Katie M for the last year. She is amazing! I have curly hair and most stylists do not know what they are doing with it. Even when they claim to know how to cut curly hair. Katie knows exactly what she is doing and takes the time to have a discussion with me each appointment to make sure I am happy with the previous cut and how it is growing out. I also have many white hairs coming in and each time she gives me expert advice on my different options for dealing with them. And then does great highlights!

I have finally found a salon that I plan to stick with. Katie M. has cut my hair the past few times. She’s very upbeat, friendly, personable and makes sure that you are completely satisfied with her work. You can tell that she’s passionate about the work she does. She’s very detail-​oriented and a perfectionist. She would spend the extra time and effort, even for a simple trim, to make sure her work gets done right, and that you are happy. They also offer a cheap hair cut for your birthday.

Saw Tommy for the first time on a recommendation. Everything everyone says good about him and this salon is true. I waited until my hair grew out a bit to post a review. You know how you may look great right after a cut, but over time you can see all the flaws? No problems or complaints here. It almost looks too good to get cut again, but when I decide I need a trim or change, this is definitely where I’m headed (get it?). They aren’t cheap, but you pay for what you get.

I very tentatively bought the Evolution Hair Groupon, because my last two experiences trying to find a hairstylist using a Groupon were abysmal (I’m talking to you Aveda Pure!). I told Evolution in our initial conversation that I was using a Groupon, and was treated like GOLD from the get-​go. The whole experience was fabulous. I’ll be going back. BTW — Katie was my hair professional, and she did EXACTLY what I asked, including to giving me advice. My color was perfect. Exactly what I wanted. They called AND sent snail mail as follow-​up, to ensure I loved what I received.
As I read this, I can see how one might think it is a «sponsored» review, but it’s not. I really had a great experience here.

I’ve recently been going to Tanja for hair color and keratin treatments and I’m so thankful I did! She just gets it. The density, placement and depth of my blonde highlights are perfect. And the one time we had different ideas in mind for my low lights (and they came out too dark for me) she fixed it, twice mind you at no extra cost. I’m very picky and she’s patient, repsectful, and extremely knowledgeable about color. She lifts my hair with a no-​bleach lightening crème (no clue how this lifts my hair w/​o using bleach) that is amazing. My hair looks so much prettier and healthier, and I think this is more important than makeup and botox and other facial treatments in order to look younger. In fact, I hadn’t realized it until my keratin treatment wore off and my hair started looking a bit frizzier and disheveled that grocers and service personnel started calling me ma’m again. Yikes time for another keratin treatment! So ask her about keratin and also the lactic acid conditioner treatments are worth every penny. She’s the most expensive hair stylist I’ve ever been to, but I think its worth it because now I have great hair. Life is too short to not have great hair and flaunt it! highly recommend her!

Listen, I had gone to evolution hair design for many many years. People need to hear of some faults that the hair colorist Tanja has that made me leave evolution, along with others who I know personally. She is not the perfect hairstylist and likes to change how she colors your hair and will even lie about it. She does like to befriend people to gain trust and commission. If you are fine with that then by all means, go for it and have fun with that. I am personally not a fan of Tanja’s style of hair coloring and over selling products that leave your hair dirty and damaged. I love the service of the other hair designers there but it got so bad that I really need this to be heard about her to maybe save a few people. She gets too personal in the lives of her clients and makes people think that she is the best and only friend they have in her own selfish gain. I refuse to use my name because she will come after every one who I know along with myself.

Tanja has been coloring my hair for years. All i have to do is show up and I know she will take care of me and make me feel pretty. I live in Seattle and I wouldn’t think of finding anyone in the area to replace her. Her expertise is worth the 3 hour drive.

Heather cut and colored my hair and I’m sooooo pleased! My hair is very thick and she was quick and skilled. I will be going back, I work at downtown Safeway at self check out if you want to see for your self!!!

I went for the first time and had Shaina as my stylist. She was amazing and knew exactly how to make my hair what I wanted and needed! Received a thank you letter and personal note from her today and I just want to say, I’ll never let another person touch my hair again! Definitely go and definitely trust in them!

Tanya is absolutely the best colorist in town. Tommy’s meticulous technique resulted in a contemporary cut that is easy to maintain. I have never, ever received so many compliments on my hair!

Mark did my hair for my wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous. When I met with him for the practice session, I asked him for a stylist recommendation and he suggested Katie — I have been seeing her ever since. Not only is Katie super sweet and fun to talk to, she does a fantastic job. I have been blond my whole life, but recently we made a big change and she took me to a rich chestnut brown color. I am loving it so far, and I don’t think I would have had the confidence to do that with anyone else.
Bonus points for their commitment to being green and encouraging you to bring back product bottles to be refilled. And you can relax with a glass of wine while they work too, which is lovely.

Mark Putnam is a genius with cuts that flatter your face, as well as complimenting your style.
Tanja Weller does color/​highlights/​Brazilian keratin treatments like nobody’s bidness. «Island of Beauty» is really fun, and relaxing while you get «beautified» (Tanja’s words… and she means it)
Tommy gives the MOST AMAZING scalp massage while washing your hair. Seriously, if I were a smoker, I’d need a cigarette after that. Glorious.
And the cool thing is: As they are styling your hair, there’s an optical illusion that your shoes are actually the customer’s sitting across from you.

Emily may just be an apprentice, but if her work is any indication of the other stylists at Evolution you can’t possible go wrong!
I had gone to another salon in Gresham, I chose one close to home. BIG mistake, I’ve never had such an awful haircut. The stylist ruined my hair, and even with the mangled mess I came with, Emily saved the day. She not only fixed my hair, she managed to give me the exact haircut I wanted to begin with.
And they served me tea. Can’t get any better than that!
I came with a friend, she recommend the salon. She left with fabulous, beautiful hair as well.

Tanja Weller has been coloring my hair and Mark Putnam has been cutting it for years and there is nowhere else I would go in Portland. They have an uncanny ability to know exactly what will look good on you and work within your lifestyle so you not only look good on salon day, but every day. (there’s no use looking good if it’s too hard for you to style in the morning) I constantly get unsolicited comments from perfect strangers about where my hair is done and I have been able to refer dozens of people to them just from those compliments. If you’re not sure about what to do with your hair, are a little timid about coloring or if you like to follow my rules which are, «make me look younger, thinner and more like a super model» then Evolution is for you. Now, if I could only get the rest of me to look as good as my hair I could give Gisele a run for her money.
