Expressly Trends

I stopped in here at the suggestion of a friend when I was looking for a new pair of jeans. I totally would have walked right past it if I wasn’t told to come here, because I just assume everything on the peninsula (other than food/​drinks) is «tourist pricing».
I’m so glad I stopped in! They had a variety of designer-​brand jeans at discounted prices and the assistant was extremely helpful. When I struggled to find some that fit «just right», she brought a few pairs and even suggested that I try a smaller size – I guffawed (really? that’s flattering she’d think I’d fit into THOSE, but hahah, yeah right!) – well, they ended up being PERFECT, and I walked out with those jeans in my hand.
I’ll totally be back!

I NEVER shop for clothing in the Old Port. As a local, I know better (read: ITSA TOURIST TRAP, RUNNNNNNNN). But a friend brought me here one afternoon, and, well… I left with two items I didn’t intend on purchasing. But how could I not?! Especially since the shirt I had been eyeing in the window of a nearby store was also being sold here, but for $ 100 less.
Nope, no typos there. You read that right. It was $ 130 at the nearby place; $ 19.99 here (so $ 110 less!). All of the clothing sold here is timely, fashionable, and extremely reasonably priced. I will absolutely be back here again in a couple months to see what new styles are out for the next seasons.
I do have a couple orange (which is less serious than red, right?) flags about this place, though. They aren’t big enough to warrant less than a four star rating, nor will they deter me from coming back. And by «couple» I do mean just two:
1. Their return policy is terrible. Maybe it’s tailored to tourists who they know won’t be back in Portland, ME any time soon, but it did make me spend an enormous amount of time (more than I’ve ever spent anywhere else) in the dressing room double, triple, and quadruple checking that the items I was purchasing were absolutely, 100%, without-​a-​doubt-​in-​the-​world going to work for me. I wish they’d relax a little there. I didn’t really want to spend most of my metered time standing in front of a mirror!
2. I was pretty underwhlemed by the staff. They seemed almost disdainful towards their customers, as if our presence was ruining their day. I caught one of them — perhaps the owner? — giving me the stink-​eye multiple times. I’m going to give her the benefit of the doubt, and guess that maybe she was staring because I had just come from the beach and had newly (and awkwardly) burned bright pink skin and sand all over my legs. Shrug. Who knows?
My advice: ignore the bad apple attitudes and go for the trendy threads!

Went in to this shop for the first time the other day and loved it! Can’t believe I’ve walked right pas tit all this time. Cute clothes, very affordable and nice staff. Wish there was more info in the web with their hours etc.
