Face Envy

Oh sweet heaven! I experienced a back facial for the first time ever thanks to Sarah which is something I have never even seen offered at any other spa or skin therapist. I saw a Living Social deal and was curious. Our back takes such a hit every day and we cannot even reach it to give it some love. She was amazing, tailoring my back facial to my needs and how my skin was responding. She cleaned it, scrubbed it, masked it and did extractions making sure I was comfortable not just with each step but throughout. She gave me a phenomenal mini massage and brushed my hair massaging my scalp. Talk about a lovely experience! I will be back for certain when I want to treat myself!

Sarah is really sweet, and I appreciate her commitment to reasonable pricing and vegan products. But the facial left my skin in terrible shape. When she told me we were finished, I looked in the mirror and gasped — it looked like I was wearing a red mask! I have somewhat sensitive skin, as I noted on my intake forms (occasionally get a bit rashy from products, especially fragrances), but I’ve had a dozen or so facials over the years and nothing like this has ever happened.
I asked what happened, what was going on, and she said that she thought I had a reaction to the mask she had used. I understand that people have reactions sometimes — and I’m not sure if it was the products in the mask itself, or the things that she added to it (she mentioned tinkering with her own products, so perhaps the formulations are still a work in progress — this stung/​smelled significantly of apple cider vinegar). Sarah also said that she adds essential oils, but «nobody is allergic to essential oil.» Whether it’s the fault of the esthetician, the product, or a client’s skin, if someone has a reaction, it should be something an esthetician notices, brings to the attention of the client, and tries to fix.
When I asked, she brought a wet towel, so I could attempt to remove any lingering product, and cool off my skin (when I asked what else we could do, she mentioned maybe using toner, but then acknowledged it had some of the same ingredients as the mask). The irritation faded after a few hours, but it’s the next day and my skin still looks blotchy and awful (in addition to having very noticeable blemishes around the sites of extractions).

Delighted with my wonderful facial today. My skin looks great and most importantly feels great. The location is convenient, easily accessible and has ample parking. Give Sarah a try… you won’t be disappointed.

I have a pretty severe skin allergy to a chemical preservative that’s in a lot of products and makeup, even items labeled natural and/​or organic. Sarah worked with me to make sure that none of the products she used on my face had that preservative. She is a true professional and I had a wonderful experience. Will definitely continue to give her my business!
