This is the best Portland has to offer! It is a local hot spot and that’s the way we like it! The owners know their regulars and AJ makes great dishes! The Gargenzol chicken and pasta is a great dish!

Came here for a valentines dinner, and the pulled pork Mac and cheese was delightful. Full of flavor, and the pork didn’t have any fat. We split a slice of their chocolate cake for dessert too, it’s a very large slice. Try their garlic bread as well, it’s very good.

The service here is really good, the food is delicious, the alcohol and atmosphere is good. Good for lunches, great for dinners & family gatherings. I went here last night again for St Patrick’s day and it was a huge party. It was totally swamped but we still got our food pretty fast. Love the waitresses.

Went for lunch. staff was to busy to wait on our party they were gossiping about the previous evening events. being on our lunch break we had limited time to eat. After relaying that to our bartender she rolled her eyes and started slamming glasses We felt like we were intruding. We all got up and went to burger king instead were we could relax and joke about that’s were those women belong serving fries

Gave this place another try last night. 1. Waitress was awful 2. Asked 4 times for bread 3. Asked 3 times for drink refills 4. She never brought my food out. It never CAME! 5. Had ordered take out as well. Buffalo wings were not hot. Tastless! Other meal was burnt 6. Was never offered dessert. Or anything else and finally check came and we bailed out. Table next to us said we had the worst service and I watched how their server was so attentive to them. I had server envy! Never again. EVER will I go back here.

Took our soccer team here in between games at TD Bank Soccer Park. Called ahead to see if they could accommodate us and we had our own space. Waitress was great and separated checks by jersey number. Food had nice presentation and tasted good. I had Thai peanut salad and my son had wings. I would return here if in the area and glad I found for our team.

I recently used Farrell’s to cater my sister’s wedding shower and Art was great to work with. I ordered all cold foods, he arrived early with his wife and was almost done setting up when I got there. The food was excellent(wraps, salads, etc.) and he also set up the linens and provided silverware and china. The price was reasonable and I got many compliments on the food. His wife came back at the end of the event and helped clean up. I would def recommend Farrell’s to anyone and will use them again to cater.

When I walked in I noticed the place was clean and I took a seat in the bar area. The bread came out first and it was hot out of the oven and great. I ordered a cup of chili and it was awesome and flavorful and finished with«momma’s turkey dinner» the vegetables were meh and the stuffing a little dry but the turkey itself and mashed potatoes were great. I would come back.

I tried this restaurant about a year ago with a friend. The waiter was extremely rude to us because we were splitting appetizers and a dinner. We were very embarrassed and felt degraded. My friend and I made the mistake of getting a group of friends together to give Farrell’s another shot for her birthday. Once again, from the moment we walked in the female bartender was rude to our party. At the end of the night, there was a dispute on a check for which the bartender was at fault and a member of our group. However, the bartender thought it was okay to be extremely rude to the individual in our group and proceed to slam glasses. For some insane reason, I felt bad for her so I was getting more money to tip her at which point I went to ask her a question and she snapped on me. Throughout this entire situation little did I realize a manager was sitting at the end of the bar and never once uttered a word to us. With all that said, the food was less than mediocre. All of us being from Portland we were hoping to find a spot to get together more regularly and frequent but you better believe they just lost the business of over 10 people from town.

OK where do I start. Came into this bar at about 7 pm on a Saturday night with a group of about 20 for a birthday. People showed up over the next 2 hours making it almost 30 of us. Various tabs were opened and the night progressed. First I tried 4 different appetizers. Nachos were awful, wings were under cooked. I had to send them back to the kitchen, 20 minutes later they came out half cold and almost as bad as they were originally. Buffalo chicken dip was average at best but don’t plan on getting full as they served enough to fill about 12 chips. Potato skins are the best thing I had and they were just OK. The worst part of the evening is when we got our final tabs. Random food was put on our tab which was clearly not mine. When I asked the bartender about it she said the girl at the other table didn’t pay for her food so I just put it on yours. I would have no problem paying for someone in our groups food but to just put it on my tab and not say anything is just wrong. After a discussion about this the young brunette female bartender proceeded to get irate, smashing glasses around. The point that really angered me us when she proceeded through our group of guests grab drinks and being rude to everyone there. We spent well over 1,000 dollars this night. All through this the manager or owner was sitting at the end of the bar and did Absolutely nothing. I am a very easy going person. This is the fisrt time ive been in this bar and i own a business about 100 yards down the road. Barely anything bothers me. The bad food and awful service I received tonight will not only make me never go to this bar again I will go out of my way to let others no of the awful service and food I had. If one of my employees ever acted in a manner as this bartender did to me I would have fired her on the spot. This is the first review I have ever written on Unilocal as I always give people and places the benefit of the doubt. Not this time, not this time.

They have remodelled since the last time I was here and it is very nice inside now! We had a couple of drinks in the bar area and enjoyed the atmosphere. We’ll be going back to sample the food soon.

Awesome food and service for take out or eat in. I love the black and tan fish sandwich! The waffles fries are great. My boyfriend raved about the Asian wings, and the clam chowder is pretty good. Can’t wait to go back!

This place is the only noticeable restaurant in Portland CT. There are many Irish-Americans living around this area. When my husband & I went to this place for St Patrick’s 08, it was soo fun! We even had green Guiness! Last week my family had lunch at Farrell’s. The waitress lady was very nice, food was good and Guiness was excellent. We’re so full we couldn’t try deserts. If you are in this area you should definitely check this restaurant, cause there arn’t many other places to eat in Portland, CT.

One of those typical ayerish bahs with nice atmosphere and décor. The guiness is fresh off the tap that has that almost hint of apple crisp flavor. The food is plentiful and delicious. I ordered the grilled smoke burger which has really good BBQ sauce. The fries are crispy. The bread is fresh from the oven. Really, really good. Good place for a drink, great place to eat.

big portions of reasonably good food, pretty good service, reasonable prices. the menu didn’t do much for me — i am a vegetarian; most places like this don’t really cater to vegetarians but i like to check out new places and they served our slightly large group with no problems. i had a salad that wasn’t as big as the waitress made it seem, but was still ok. i also had some fried appetizer plate that was pretty good and fried — i think it was fries, onion rings, zucchini. not real gourmet type stuff here. the ribs looked good and a large portion i probably wont go back on my own but i would have no problem returning with a group.

Farrell’s is another one of those places where everyone in town goes a dozen or so times when the family decides to have a night eating out. It’s not particularly classy but they serve some classic Irish fare. This is not the kind of Irish place where you are likely to be served by anyone with an accent– I mean you’re in Portland, CT for goodness sake! But you will get some service from nice Irish American girls who are in their first restaurant job or an old timer that’s been there for 20 years. It’s a family/townie spot. If a hearty meal’s what you want, they’ve got it.
