I popped in to grab something quick and they were most rude, telling me that they were CLOSED for their company party. I pointed out that it was 5:30 and according to their sign, their hours for Sunday go until 6:00PM. Nevermind the lights being on and the unlocked door. The guy that was working was most rude about that they were CLOSED. I meekly pointed to a huge case of sandwiches and said I could easily just grab something and go. It was like he was trying to go the extra ASSHOLE mile to be on some power trip about their company party. I kept thinking«What company schedules a party during business hours, where they could still be bringing in money???» A lady pointed to a paper announcing their closure posted on the door, something that looked like it had been put together with Word in 30 seconds(leaving it in 12 point Times New Roman font) and printed up and taped there. Who notices things like that? I would comment on the food but their precious«party» was more important than letting a hungry Portlander grab something.

Busy busy place, not many seats and if it’s cold outside there is a constant cold draft every time the door opens. The food is fabulous, nice hot bar with choice of soups, mac & cheese, and other choices, great salads and sandwiches premade in the wall cooler. The cookies and desserts are soooooo good, yum. They have 3 people«checking» everyone out when it’s busy so it moves quickly.

We went to this the Flying Elephants location this morning for a post run/birthday celebration. It was hard to get someone to take our order and even harder them to get our latte/coffee orders correct. They had to remake two of ours and were none to pleased. The treats were tasty but for coffee… there are plenty of other places in downtown Portland!

Great place to grab something quick! Lots of options and good quality. Perfect place to stop for a quick bite to eat.

Had a most unpleasant experience, and frankly the customer service there over the last few months has gotten worse — with a few lovely exceptions. But I was really shocked by the frankly personal questions and comments I heard one of the girls behind the counter where they serve hot sandwiches… asking customers about their private lives and rolling her eyes when one of them ignored her. When it came my turn after a long wait she turned her back to me for iver three minutes while she chatted with another worker standing around the corner… laughing and joking around about her boyfriend or whatnot. I ended up walking out rather than listen to her and her friend laugh and chat in the middle of my lunch break. I would expect for the cost of the food that the customer service would be on point and this was just absolutely ridiculous and I frankly cannot wait to find another option.

As usual, Elephant’s Deli does it again. Their location at the Fox Tower has plenty of inexpensive, but quality eats. There could be more seats and less tightly packed seating, but visitors may also go to the adjacent Director Park. Staff here are friendly, completing the gem of a place this is. I went here for a small lunch. A cornbread and a soda was $ 2.50. Sometimes, I like to get Tilamook cheese, or the marrionberry scone from their other locations. Candy of enormous quality, but small size is avalible for a price of under a dollar. What benefit to Portland Elephant’s Deli is.

I went on a the Volcano Lands Nature Tours with Ivan the guide. He provided lunch from the Flying Elephants and I was an instant fan of the Caprese Sandwich. Everything about this was so tasty! The bread was nice and doughy, the mozzarella and tomato was really fresh, and the basil sauce was awesome. When I went to PDX, I tried to get the same sandwich but they were all out =(. Still craving it now…

Flying Elephants is a good place downtown to eat. It is a smaller version of the full Flying Elephants in NW Portland. They don’t have all the home goods or the cold case of salads. Rather they are geared towards the lunch crowd. So they have a few ready to eat. single serving deserts. ready made salads and sandwiches and drinks. My favorite area is the hot case. It has a few warm entrees and a grill for sandwiches. I also like the tables in the front and outside. They are great if you want to eat there. This is a great option in the area.

The atmosphere in this joint is great. The staff is somewhat friendly. But the sandwiches are wrapped in plastic and are very stale. The prices are way too high, blah. Don’t need to go back there.

This is where you go if you think food carts are dirty and gross. It is clean, brightly light, has great AC and tons of options. It is a yuppie version of a 7 – 11. You are wrong to go here. Don’t be afraid of food that isn’t wrapped in layers of plastic and over-priced. Two blocks away is 60+ food carts that serve real food. Come to the good side. Elephants is where we often order our business lunches, and it has everything you’d expect. Bland taste that offends no one(and no one loves), overpriced items and unadventerous food. Some of the breakfast items are ok hence the two stars even though I wanted to give one to make up for the incorrect overall rating. The service is busy and snotty as is most the clientile.

They had a good selection of sandwiches, this spot was a bit busy and we ended up going outside for our lunch… The egg salad sandwich was good, I had a cheese and turkey sandwich and it was fresh and nothing was soggy. The oatmeal cookie was FANTASTIC … Great quickly lunch spot, good for people watching

It would have been a crime against nature not to spend any time out and about last evening, so I decided to have dinner at Flying Elephants and eat at an outside table at Director’s Park. I had Flying Elephants’ Bistro Burger with arugula, blue cheese, and bacon and onion compote and this made for very tasty dinner. Service was quick and very friendly when I ordered at the counter and the burger was brought out to me in good time as well. People watching was great; there’s nothing like the a warm summer evening to bring out the best in Portlanders. Do come here and enjoy some time this summer, it is a real treat.

Definitely one of my «go-to» spots for lunch, especially when I want something to take away(back to the office, or across the street on sunny days!). Their soups are legendary. The Chicken Cure soup and the Chicken Tortilla soup are two of my absolute favorites! I also love the black bean quinoa salad! Tons of other choices of salads, sandwiches(both grab and go and hot to order). It’s a small, busy place but is usually well-staffed so getting in and out isn’t terrible. There are some concerns about price, but it is downtown, so a good lunch just costs that much!

This is my kind of fast food. Super fresh, amazing selection, and really friendly staff. My lunch go to is the BLTA(bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado) for sure, but their grill makes a mean biscuit and gravy at breakfast. Wow! So huge, so tasty, so soul satisfying, and its only $ 4.50!!! Everything I have ever had from Elephants has been delicious. There are so many sandwiches/salads/tasty goodness, I am sure I will never be able to try them all… but darn it if I’m not going to try! Oh, and I can’t forget about the Cowboy cookie. Get it, eat it, love it, repeat.

Tomato and orange soup. Not intrigued yet? Well, you should be. Odd as the combination sounds, Flying Elephants makes it work. This is a great place to grab a quick lunch, as they have sandwiches AND desserts. They also have interesting salads to go with the soups.

I love all of the Elephant’s Deli’s, and this one is good as well. I had their vegetable soup and it was good. $ 3.35 for a cup, and came with crackers. The only problem was there was no seating! The place was packed, and it was on a Saturday but would’ve been nice if they had more seating. Other than that it’s great.

Every time I visit, nothing really stands out too much to make it memorable. I guess I do remember the fact that the customer service is just alright. I’m always looking for more. Their sandwiches are pretty good. I like the Albacore Tuna without the onions($ 6.95) and their Mama Leon’s soup goes well with all of the sandwiches they have to offer – hot or cold. The cookies are pretty big and soft. I highly recommend the classic Chocolate Chip. It’s well worth the $ 2! Great location downtown and perfect during the summer when the sun shines and you can comfortably feast right outside the small wading pool.

I want to love this place. But the price is just too overwhelming for what you get. I like the orange tomato soup. It has different tangy nots from two different citrusy fruits and plays out very well. Its about 3.50 per small cup. The hot food, its okay. If they had better hot food and may lower their price about 10 – 15 percent, i would love this place. A huge minus is they only give you thirty minutes of wifi.

Pretty good food here, but has a great casual atmosphere. Perfect if you want to grab something to go or eat somewhere causal and quiet. They also have a very interesting selection of beverages in their drinks section. Also cute pastries line their front counter, which I may have to try out before I leave.
