I LOVE Chinese food(Americanized Chinese food, whatever you want to call it, I love it all the same). And this place is hands down the best I’ve ever had. From their Pu Pu platter(appetizers ranging from boneless spare ribs, beef stick, chicken wings, chicken fingers, eggrolls, and crab rangoon) to their General Tso’s to their Singapore fried rice(with that lovely hint of curry), it’s all. so. good. Also, their crab rangoon blows others out of the water; it’s not your usual cream cheese and nothing — it’s(imitation) crab, carrots(brilliant!), cream cheese, and awesomeness inside a fried wonton skin. I am not sure how else to describe it besides DELICIOUS. Grab a few with some of their homemade house sauce, and see for yourself. I also love all their veggies; ingredients here are fresh and vibrant, and as I’ve said before, you can tell they’re cooked with care. And know-how. You can’t beat that combo. Speaking of, their combination platters can’t be beat in terms of lunch or dinner. What a steal of a deal. If you’re craving Chinese, this is THE place in Portland to go. Take it from someone who may or may not have eaten her weight in orange chicken in her lifetime. Yum. I’ll be back!

I have been to Fortune Gardens several times since it opened the food is always fresh and well cooked I enjoy the triple delight and the beef and broccoli the eggrolls are crispy and really tasty. The chicken dishes are all excellent. If you’ve ever been to Zens Chinese bistro this is just as good for a neighborhood takeout. I can’t believe some people on here Are giving bad reviews this place is the best

I won’t rush back anytime soon. The crab rangoon was not good, the filling was yellow & looked like there were pieces of chopped carrots in them. I tried to improve them with the sauce but it didn’t make them any more edible. We ended up throwing them away… which breaks my heart, because I love crab rangoon… but they were that bad. Even my non picky boyfriend couldn’t stomach them, he didn’t even finish one. The sauce on the general tso chicken was pretty tasty but the chicken pieces were fatty & had way too much breading. The garlic chicken was really great & had lots of veggies. My boyfriend really enjoyed the pork fried rice. He said the hot n sour soup was ok but not great.

They’re pretty good. The crab Rangoon is delicious, and they have good fried rice. They are peanut free, if that is a concern for you. They give you a lot of food for your money, I just wasn’t fond of their chicken dishes. Every other dish I’ve had here has been good.

August 24,2015 Let me first tell everyone that I do a lot of traveling In my line of work so I have order from a lot of different restaurants all over this country. I Ordered the chicken and mixed vegetables with white rice egg rolls and egg drop soup. My order was delivered at a very reasonable time However the chicken and mixed vegetables I didn’t care for as it tasted bitter to me. Needless to say I didn’t eat anymore of it. However the egg drop soup was good and the egg rolls were ok with soy sauce. This is my usual order whenever I order Chinese food. Order at your own risk

Pretty good American style Chinese. Fresh ingredients and the staff is really friendly. Beef with Broccoli was yummy. Lo-mein was just OK, a little sweeter than I care for but the noodles were done just right.

I don’t do Chinese to often butt when I did it was at wok in. I still haven’t found a good replacement. I’m not asking for much just good wings, house fried rice, beef teriyaki and pan fried noodles. Simple and easy. I called for delivery on a Friday, wife was out, I was to lazy to cook and it came with in the hour. I ordered Hunan shrimp combination plate(cp), chicken and veggie cp, orange chicken with hot and sour soup and wings, small wings and it came to $ 49.15. For the price it wasn’t worth it. The orange chicken is a favorite for the kids. They love orange chicken from panda express and didn’t care for theirs. It was large chucks, hard and didn’t seem as fresh. The other cp were mediocre, I don’t want a mediocre meal. I love wings those are my go to items and I wasn’t that impressed. The only positive is that I think they got the best hot and sour soup around. Great balance of spice and sour. Decent customer service. All in all I give it a 2 star. I’d go back if I got a gift card. I wanted it to be good but it wasn’t. My search continues for a place like wok in.

Not the best Chinese food I ever had over priced for the amount of food you get. The food had no flavor very blend the only thing that had flavor was the 20 oz coke I had but that was warm. If I had ordered take out or ordered in I would have brought it or sent it back. But I had it delivered and by the way it is a minimum of $ 20.00 before they will deliver. I was stuck in a hotel while my car was being fixed.

Surprisingly good for a place that lacks any ambiance or «get in here» charm. I called them 5 minutes before they closed on a Saturday night when no one else was open and they were more than willing to accommodate my order. When I picked it up ten minutes later they couldn’t have been nicer. I’ll be back for sure! Best Chinese take out in Portland!

It’s Chinese food at its best. The building doesn’t look like much but the food is excellent. A must order item is the hot and sour soup. I’ll go out on a limb and say that it is the best in town. You can never go wrong with the fried chicken fingers. They are smaller pieces that are crispy on the outside and you won’t feel like you are eating a pound of batter. I highly recommend the Hunan chicken. It’s spicy but not overpowering.

Super, super friendly people! Really like having this place in the neighborhood. Food was pretty non-greasy and very tasty, portion was huge! I would highly recommend this place if you want Chinese takeout in Portland. Vegetarian options are kind of limited, and they don’t do substitutions of tofu for meat into dishes that are not listed as with tofu to begin with. That is what they lose a star for!

I was honestly really disappointed with my Fortune Garden experience, especially after reading all the great reviews. Although the menu has a good selection of fairly priced items, my food left something to be desired. I got the chicken lo mein with veggie fried rice, an egg roll, and crab rangoons. There was not one item that I enjoyed and I ended up throwing the majority of it away. It all has a very weird taste, not a good weird either. Maybe I just had a fluke bad experience but I’m not sure that I will be a repeat customer

surprisingly good! ordered pu pu platter, orange chicken and pork fried rice. The rice was so fresh and was actually still pretty white, not all brown and dried out like most places seem to serve. Didn’t feel gross after eating it which usually happens after chinese takeout!

Fortune Garden is a solid Chinese take-out place. I’ve been a couple times, and every time, the food has been great and the staff was very courteous. I «dined-in» once(they have two small tables) and did take out once. In both instances, the food was made fairly quickly but still tasted amazing. Plus, the prices are very fair, especially for the combination platters. With most platters, you can usually get lunch for under $ 8 after tax and dinner for under $ 10 after tax. And you can add soup to these platters for just 50 cents more(and the soup is great). The combo platters come with A LOT of food; easily made into two meals or one giant solo feast. I’ve always wanted to try other Chinese take-out places in the area, but it is hard to try anywhere else when I the other places have questionable reviews and I know I’m guaranteed a solid experience with Fortune Garden. Fortune Garden does delivery, but only for a 2 meal minimum. So if you’re eating alone, you’re gonna have to pick it up yourself. The place is also closed on Sundays. I highly recommend Fortune Garden for your Chinese take-out needs. Maybe one day, I’ll muster up the courage to try a new Chinese take-out joint. But for now, I’ll keep my business at Fortune Garden.

We FINALLY ate here after over a year of living right down the street. First impression? These folks are FAST. We ordered takeout and it was ready to be picked up in about 20 minutes. Awesome. I ordered a few of my staples — hot & sour soup, chicken with garlic sauce, and crab rangoon. The hot & sour soup was great — not too thick like at some restaurants, and had a good amount of spice. The crab rangoon wasn’t my favorite ever… but good. The chicken with garlic sauce was the best — LOTS of chicken, great flavor to the sauce, and the whole thing just tasted so fresh, not overly greasy/fried like it sometimes can. We’re psyched to have such an awesome place so close to home!

Mm, tasty! Fortune Garden is perfect for a quick lunch or dinner take-out. I ordered the Broccoli Beef lunch special, and for under $ 10, I received a container full of steaming hot goodness! Lunch(and I think dinner) specials come with your choice of soup, entrée of choice, fried rice, crab rangoons(2), and the obligatory fortune cookie. My favorite parts were the hot and sour soup & the fried rice. Compared to other hot and sour soups in town, this one is not loaded with cornstarch to the point of becoming thick and gooey. It’s light and slightly refreshing, or at least as refreshing as a spicy soup can get. There were a variety of veggie/mushroom/tofu pieces in there which were nice too! I haven’t had fried rice in a while, so this was a tasty reminder of home! The rice was actually really flavorful, and it didn’t feel cheaply made or covered in msg. Although I can’t say this was the best chinese food ever, I’m glad that I finally caved in and tried Fortune Garden after swearing off Chinese food in Portland for almost a year now. I had a wonderful experience with the lady working the counter when I asked for recommendations, and I’d definitely recommend this to anyone with a Chinese food craving! :)

Wow really proves the adage of don’t judge a book by it’s cover, this place is great. One can easily drive by this place and never notice it. The menu is a lot smaller than most phone book size menus of Chinese take out places. Granted this is not super authentic or someone’s crazy take on trying to make Chinese food healthy. This is down and dirty good Americanized Chinese food. I had what I consider the best Chinese food general general tso chicken. Large pieces of great tasting chicken and some of the best fried rice. The rice was flavorful and tasted like it was cooked to order compared to so many other places that have way too much grease(it becomes the bad brown rice) and that are cooked to far in advance. The crab Rangoon’s tasted not of just cream cheese! What!!! Is this some real and or fake crab mixed with cream cheese?! YES, FTW!(For the win). The best part of the meal the soup. The Hot and sour soup was by far(maybe a country mile, or maybe a city mile) was the best part. So much flavor, slight spice in my book(GF thought it was way too hot). I could have had another bowl. So good. Prices are average 10 bucks for dinner but it includes the soup! As Frank the Tank says«Once it hits your lips, it’s so good!»

Delivery Order Aug 14, 2013 paid with CC over phone — Pu-Pu for 2 1 order Shrimp Lo-Mein and 1 order Pork Fried Rice $ 35.00 no affiliation Excellent — Pu-Pu platter consisted of 2 chicken wings, 1 egg roll, 1 teriyaki beef on a stick, 4 chicken fingers, and a generous portion of the best boneless spare ribs I’ve ever had. There was also a couple of Crab Rangoons to round it out. Plenty left over for lunch and even dinner for me today especially with the awesome shrimp Lo-Mein. My daughter throughly enjoyed her Pork Fried Rice also. There are a few reasons I rated 5 stars: No excessive thirst afterwards as is usual whenever I eat any Chinese food. I end up drinking at least a half gallon of water, I’m thinking due to the salt content?, but that didn’t happen with Fortune Garden. Watched TV for a few hours before going to bed, and I didn’t get up for a drink once. Excellent! We’ll only be ordering delivery from Fortune Garden in the future. We don’t add salt to our food at the table, only a small amount when cooking and I’m happy they don’t overdo the sodium either. Non-greasy. We had napkins on our table, and I had put extras out based on experiences with other delivery Chinese restaurants but there was no grease to deal with. There was plenty of moistness but it was from the food itself, not from grease. Packed in foil containers — better for the environment. A+ for this. Delivery Man — very nice, told us more than once if there was a problem with the order to call and let them know and they would make it right. We recommend Fortune Garden highly, the ordering process was excellent, delivery time was not excessive, the entire experience was one of the best we’ve had. If you’re looking for a great meal at home give them a call(207) 878‑8989.

I stopped here for takeout very recently. Fortune Garden is a little neighborhood Chinese takeout restaurant which is family owned and operated. The place is very cozy inside, which is order at the counter with open kitchen and there are a few self serve tables for eating in. They offer a streamlined standard Americanized Chinese menu with Cantonese, Hunan, & Szechuan dishes at moderate prices, most dishes priced $ 10.75-$ 14.50. 25 Combination Plates are offered for lunch until 4PM($ 6.55-$ 7.25/served with veg fried rice, appetizer, & soup) and dinner($ 8.75/$ 9.45/served with pork fried rice, crab rangoons(3), &soup). For lunch, I ordered the CP24 Shrimp Lo Mein($ 6.55 plus tax) with vegetable fried rice, crab rangoons(2), and hot & sour soup. The service was prompt and I had my freshly cooked order in under 10 minutes. The portion of food was enough food for lunch served in a rectangular foil container with compartments for each dish, soup served in a stryofoam bowl. The lo mein was a bit oily, but still tasty, which had a mix of firm noodles, cabbage, sprouts, sliced mushroom, bamboo, and a few medum sized very firm shrimp. The vegetable fried rice(light color) was simple, which had a mix of peas, carrots, corn, & green beans and soft fluffy rice. The crab rangoons were delicious, which were very crispy outside, not greasy, and filled with a good balance of cheese & orange meat, folded on top. The hot & sour soup was standard and not too spicy. I would definitely order again from Fortune Garden! (3.75÷5.00)
