staple of SE Portland. Food is good and service in the small space is excellent.

Excellent, so sad it’s closing. The only good Chinese in Bridgetoon. Owners are really nice too.

Back when it opened Fujin was THE place in SE to go for Chinese. Their salt and pepper calimari and their eggplant was fantastic. But over the years the food has lost its liveliness and flavor and gained a lot of grease. Our last three visits we have vowed to not come back, but it’s the closest Chinese to our house, and there are times I just don’t want Thai or phở, so we think, «let’s give it another try.» Well, we really won’t be going back. This last time every dish we had was swimming in oil. It seems as if the cook just doesn’t care about the food anymore. It’s too bad – I WANT to like it.

This was delicious! My husband and I live near Hoho’s Chinese… which was good the first time or two, but the more we went there, the less and less enjoyable it was. We tried Fujin, it was delicious! We got Kung Pao Chicken, General Tso’s Chicken, House Special Combination Lo Mein, Pork Fried Rice and Crap Puffs and even though it was enough food to feed a small town, it only came to $ 42. Everything was great! The meat was moist and tender, the flavors were great, everything was thoroughly enjoyable! I would recommend anything we ordered. I personally would rather order take-out than dine-in, it’s not that I wouldn’t recommend their dining room, it’s just simple and kind of generic — it was also pouring rain, so it felt cold.

I studied abroad in China for a year so I could not resist coming in for a bite last weekend. I had the Hunan lamb special for lunch. I had a large serving of jasmine rice with vegetables and lamb stir-fried in black bean sauce. They did a good job– the meat was especially tender and it wasn’t greasy. The staff are pretty speedy and courteous. The menu looked decently priced and pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant. Since I’ve only been in once, I feel like I would need to try more of the menu items to make a better review of the place.

Best Chinese food I’ve had in a long time. Pleasantly surprised to find a huge variety of tasty 100% vegan options. Tried the hot and sour soup: this was incredible. We were told they make their own broth from scratch. I was treated often as a child, to my Norwegian grandmother’s home-made chicken noodle soup, so i could tell at first sip that this soup was home-made. And at 3:30 on a saturday afternoon, we got the freshest tasting hot bowl(enough for two) of soup. It wasn’t overly vinegary, had beautiful threads of egg and little bits of dried chili peppers. Delicious! Then, on recommendation of the owner, we had the Crispy eggplant(adding fried tofu). It was amazing! I just can’t rave enough about this. It was the perfect mix of slightly sweet, spicy and salty. The eggplant was sliced thin and deep fried. It had a wonderful crunchy and creamy texture. And the portion was huge. I’m a big eater and took about 1⁄3 of it home. You have to try this when you make it in here. My partner got a spicy chicken dish that was wonderful. I didn’t have much but nibbled at the broccoli. It had almost a spicy rubbed flavor(like spicy Korean chicken is the only reference I have). Not overly saucy and once again, the perfect mix of flavor. The owner was very sweet and generous with her time. I would go back just for the service. The only suggestion I would make is to ignore the décor. It’s clean and comfortable, but gave me the impression I was going to have a plain ‘olé cheap Chinese late lunch. Don’t be mistaken, this is gourmet! If they had stained concrete floors, dark walls and intimate lighting, you’d expect to pay double for the quality of the food you get. I don’t write reviews, but felt compelled because of the great experience I had.

I’ve only been here twice but the second time me and my gf both had upset stomachs and what follows. I ordered the sweet and sour pork, she ordered the cashew chicken. It’s just not worth the risk to go back there. Buyer beware.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. My wife and I drive all the way from Eugene to eat here. Everything is always good. I recommend the Crispy Eggplant.

First and foremost, don’t go here expecting to get authentic Chinese dishes. However, they do make some pretty darn good Americanized Chinese food. I got the crispy eggplant while my boyfriend got the kung pao tofu. The eggplant was delicious. It was nice and crisp and was covered in this sweet, but not overly sweet sauce. I love eggplant, so this was an absolute delight for me. It’s also perfect for people who haven’t had much eggplant before. The kung pao tofu was also great. It had your standard garlic sauce and it had so much veggies on it, which I loved. The tofu was nice and crisp and the vegetables were fresh and not overcooked. Both of them were huge servings as well, so we had a lot of leftovers(and they actually taste better as leftovers!) The service was great. Our server was super nice, I think the nicest server we’ve had ever. He was very helpful and prompt. Our food also came out really quickly, which was nice. Another server(which I think was one of the owners), even packed up our leftovers for us. It was just overall an awesome experience, service wise. The dinner, which consisted of the two dishes, rice(which is extra and you do have to pay for it, but it’s only a $ 1, so not too bad), and tea added up to $ 21(not including tip). Definitely not bad considering we had a nice meal with lots of leftovers and great service. They’re definitely on my list of places to go to when I need to have my Chinese food fix!

Yes, this place is a little worn down. It’s clearly been around for a while. I felt right at home, though, in a way that I don’t in fancier restaurants. Our server was very friendly and helpful, and extremely polite. I wish more Portland servers were as polite. The food was excellent! I wouldn’t count this place among the more authentic Chinese restaurants, but if you’re in the mood for some quick and tasty American Chinese food, then this is the place. I had the sesame pork and my mother had the House Special Pan Fried Noodles with vegetables, chicken, pork and shrimp, and it was all very tasty, although the shrimp tasted a little freezer-burned. Their hot and sour soup was particularly excellent. They add sesame oil to it, which I have not seen done at any other Chinese place I’ve been to. Being a huge fan of sesame oil, I really loved it. Only thing I wasn’t so fond of was them charging for rice — shouldn’t that come with the entrée at no charge? — but it was only $ 1, so I won’t complain too much.

I wish this trip had gone better, but after 2 gos at Fujin, I think I can count them in the category of «sketchy chicken disguised in batter» Chinese joints. It seemed like they meant for this to be homemade and good. What I’m assuming were the business owner and his wife were sitting in the back trying their hardest to be attentive, but the General Tsao’s had a musty funk flavor to the chicken, and the Crab Rangoon were far down on the list with faux crab, thick dough shell, and bizarre dipping sauce. Wish I had liked it better, would be a great little take out spot due to diligence of staff and location, but just don’t think there’s much momentum for this food to get a lot better…

Good for lunch, if all you need is a quick bite to eat, service was quick and food was hot, mostly deep-fried everything. However, if you are in it for the food, there are certainly better options. General Ts’s «spicy was bland at best, and very salty.

Fu-jin’s crispy eggplant’s so tasty and light your sweet and sour is such a delight! Your soup so perfect, over it I could fight your too fab appetizers make me feel like a sprite! fu-fu-jin for the win win win! fu-fu-jin for the win win win! Seriously folks, I have been coming here since 2003 and the food is always hot, tasty and good. I don’t know why there are some poor reviews of this place, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, maybe Fu-jin has off days here and there. But I’ve been fortunate enough to miss them. I’m almost never had a bad meal here. If you are vegetarian, you should split orders of the crispy eggplant and the home style tofu. The crispy eggplant is amazing, I don’t usually like eggplant and I love it. The homestyle tofu is a wonderful blend of crisp and soft textures, the veggies with it are crispy and fresh. If you are not vegetarian, you should split orders of the crispy eggplant and the sweet and sour shrimp. I saw the face of God the day I had the sweet and sour shrimp: crispy, citrusy, sweet, tart, carrots, onions, pineapple. And it was Christmas day when I first had it! My apologies to those who care about blasphemy. The veggie spring rolls make a great starter, they are dee-lish and enough for two. Further reasons to eat at Fu-Jin: 1. Their lunch specials run until 4 pm, every day, yes not just weekdays, weekends too! 2. I got hot tea and it was only 75 cents! No, that is not a misprint. Have you seen the cost of drinks at most places these days? 3. They have the best hot and sour soup I’ve ever had. This is definitely my favorite Chinese spot in town. Why aren’t you there now?

I started going to Fu Jin in 2001 when I first moved to SEPDX. Fell in love with the Pork Lo Mein(Could eat a whole serving by myself) and had it every time. Moved out of the area in 2006 and only came back intermittently; two or three more times since ’06. Went to Fu Jin last night, though… It’s got a really casual and quiet atmosphere and you can bring a date or bring the family. I like going because I know the same family runs the place and it is decorated the way I believe a restaurant should be decorated. It’s traditional. I took a step away from the Pork Lo Mein and had the Chicken Trio(which consists of snow white chicken, lemon chicken, and General Tso’s chicken), chicken Lo-Mein, and sweet and sour pork. They brought white rice with the meal. Because they paid to buy it, I don’t mind if they charged me for it. I guess one reviewer took issue with that. Anyway, the food was delicious. The spicing was perfect and distinct with the varieties of foods, which came to the table relatively quickly. In Tigard, there isn’t much selection out here. We usually just hit up the Safeway and blow our money there. It leaves me bloated and unsatisfied. I wanted to finish everything myself, but then I wouldn’t have ANY leftovers. I left happy and satisfied! Yay! I think we’ll resume our trips to Fu Jin and make sure we do our part to help keep a Portland family-owned business in business. Screw you, grocery store Chinese food. Oh, they don’t do fortune cookies anymore. Too many complaints from Unilocalers about their fortune cookies. Really, the fortune cookies? Do people think they make them on-site? lolz

Unilocal needs to add half stars! I’d give this a 3.5 but it’s not a 4 in my book. Finally a Chinese place here with good crispy broccoli. Everyone says the crispy eggplant is the best, it’s good, not sure about the best! I’m from the east coast and am not used to being charged for white rice and they do. Got carryout so can’t comment on service or anything but I’d get carryout again.

Everything about Fujin is good. I have to admit I gave them their fourth star for service and not for food, although the food is good. They are super, super nice, especially the young guy who waits tables most days. Always has good recommendations and always is right there when you need him. Food-wise, I usually get wonton soup or mu shu, both of which have always been tasty, if a bit salty(but hey, it’s Chinese food). This is a great place for a quick lunch or a weeknight dinner when you reeeeeally don’t want to cook or don’t have anything in. Finding good Chinese in PDX has been a difficult one for me, but I’m quite happy to have found Fujin :) PS: good for veggies, too!

Please support this great local business! Cheap chinese food that is reliably delicious, and a very attentive and kind waitstaff. Instead of going to another chain, or overpriced, overrated restaurant – please give Fujin a chance! The seafood portions always come with an ample amount of shrimp and other seafood delights, and the sauces are always delicious and well seasoned. They also throw in a wide variety of fresh, not overcooked vegetables, with all of their dishes. The Kung Pao Tofu(which you have to ask for, it isn’t on the menu), was especially delicious – with well fried(you can ask for non-fried tofu if you don’t like fried tofu), and more fresh, yummy vegetables. If you are craving delicious chinese food at a totally reasonable price – Fujin is your place.

We stopped by here on a Friday night, and ordered the happy hour Tso’s Chicken, crab puffs and pot stickers. It was so good! The Tso’s chicken is lightly fried and spicy. The rice is nice and sticky. The crab puffs are crabby, and my 13 year old picky eater wolfed those pot stickers. The staff is attentive, and kind and friendly. It’s not a fancy place, but the food is as good as it gets for Chinese in this town. Better than The Republic and other places I’ve tried in China Town and on 82nd.

I love authentic Chinese food, but sometimes I’m craving for that greasy American Chinese food. We were at Hawthorne area one Saturday evening and we decided that American Chinese food was the choice for dinner. The place feels like a family owned establishment. There were three people worked there and I assumed they all were related. It has a casual and laid back atmosphere. We ordered the special which was 8 steamed dumplings for $ 5 and Kung Pao Beef with steamed rice. Our dumplings were ok. I didn’t care for them maybe because they tasted like«previously frozen.» The Kung Pao Beef was good. The portion was pretty big for $ 8.95. It wasn’t spicy enough for me(of course), but I didn’t mind it. We got charged extra for steamed rice which was $ 2 so actually the cost of the entrée is $ 10.95. Yes, it’s a bit steep for a Kung Pao dish. The service was great. Our server was attentive and very helpful. I don’t know if I would make another visit here just because of the American Chinese food crave, it is what it is. an ok Chinese restaurant.

23 years this wonderful hole-in-the-wall family run restaurant has been on Hawthorne! This place is like your favorite chinese restaurant on 82nd. The recipes have not changed and are always consistently delightful –full flavored dishes. You want it spicy and hot that is what you will get so be sure. We ordered the vegetarian steamed pot stickers, the dried garlic string beans and the kung poa shrimp and scallops dish. I also always ask for low oil and no MSG which she promptly told me they never put in their food. And whoa. we ate it all. I could not stop eating it though I knew I should. If you want wine it is not on the menu but the 2 choices show on her whiteboards. You can have merlot or chardonnay. She pours BIG glasses so beware! Speaking of whiteboards, lots of specials on there as well so read away before choosing your dishes. Sure the restaurant might not have the latest, current«new» look to it on Hawthorne from the outside but they were here first and everything around them seems to come and go. trendy, hot, new phase, fad etc. but this place just keeps hanging on. Their menu has not changed and is not all fusiony, or presumes to be the most up-to-date in the latest mixture of nouveau cuisine. it’s more like chinese comfort food instead. And I was completely comforted though I dare say not comfortably full. more like I ate way too much of a good thing.
