So let’s start with a little bit of my past. Growing up, my father worked for a pizza shop in upstate New York. In my teens he opened his own place and I spent quite a few years working there. Once I graduated High school my family decided to move to North Florida and open a pizza place there. After college I took over one of the locations and ran my own pizza place. Many years later I have found myself on a different path over here in Portland Oregon. That said ever since I’ve been here, I’ve been on a quest for a perfect New Youk pizza that reminds me of home. It’s been an difficult journey of constant let downs and mediocre immitations. I’m happy to say that finally my search is over. Today I gave Giants NY Pizza a try. Walking in the place reminded me of the way I remember most of NY’s pizza, it is a pizza place inside a convience store. Most people not in the know might not try this place for that very reason, fools they would be. After placeing my order over the phone I drove up and entered the shop. I met Eugene the owner/cook and his wife. I knew instantly that I had something special simply because no one puts the love into their food like an owner. I ordered the standard cheese and pepperoni pizza that i normaly would when trying a new place. The inside has space and tables for a few couples to sit down and eat however I was in a rush and took mine to go. Halfway home the smell was too much to handle and I dove in. First off this is a traditional thin NY style pizza. The crust was done perfect(I always order mine well done as pizza should be) it had a nice light crunch on the outside and the inside was perfectly chewy. The sauce brought back fond memories of home and somehow Eugene managed to get a perfect cheese blend. All of this ammounted to the best pizza that I have had in a very long time. Eugene you have created a new long time customer/addict. Keep up the magic!

Seriously… BESTPIZZAINPORTLAND! If you order a whole pie, ask for it to be well done… he’ll get the crust extra crispy for you… otherwise, just get it by the slice and it’ll be perfect! The meatball sub is a thing of legend… and the garlic rolls are essential! Any of these with a 99 cent Faygo Will make your day… oh yeah… by the way, do not judge this book by it’s cover… it does not look like the greatest pizza place in Portland… just know that it is and walk into this little convenience store that couldn’t and be amazed by the most amazing pizza that could… that just could be the best pizza in the land!

Was looking for a good pizza in the neighborhood, so that it was hot when we got it home. We found it. Compared to the pizza chains, a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Pizza with pepperoni, sliced Italian sausage(haven’t had it that way in about 25 years), mushroom and extra cheese. Also had the garlic knots and the cannoli. It was all wonderful. Eugene and his crew were great. Talked to him while he made out pizza and the next one. Very friendly.

I’m from NYC. I’m Sicilian. I moved here today. Ate this pizza. Its like I never left home. The knots are as real as it gets. The pizza is spot on. It smells like God. The people speak Italian. Its doesn’t get any better. Period.

This is the real deal. Absolutely the best pie in Portland. Unless you like Chicago pizza. But then you wouldn’t count.

Don’t let the convenient store fool you! Their food is soooo good… I’ve been here twice already. The first time was great! The sandwich I had tasted fresh and delicious. It taste like they make their own bread, so yummy. The perfect amount of toppings. We also got some garlic rolls. yumm! THEYAREHEAVENLY! The next time we came, they were sold out of the chicken sandwich we got the first time, but we tried the New York sandwich, it was equally delicious. of course we got those yummy garlic rolls again. I wish we lived closer so I can eat there more often! definitely recommend!

OMG so fresh, so hot and so tasty! I just ordered a 16″ pepperoni/garlic chicken pie and it came out of the oven beautifully. Starting my dinner with garlic knots and then diving into this cheesy goodness. My only regret is not getting the chocolate chunk cookies for dessert. All said and done it was $ 22.49 for the whole meal. The lady at the counter was a gem, as was her very Italian mother. You know it’s the real deal when it’s loud in the kitchen! Will be coming back to try the chicken bites and subs next time.

Giant sub for the win! Just a god ol’ tasty sub san at a fair price $ 56″ /$ 712″. After living in the neighborhood for a year and a half and trying a lot of the misses in and around the mall and Foster/Powell/Lents, and there are many, I was surprised to find this place’s food doesn’t taste like the mall and it’s something that’s a really easy fresh made pickup on the way to work that isn’t part of the fast food nation. Will be trying the pizza next. One wish… they bring hot dogs back so I don’t have to get them at 7 – 11 when the craving hits. I think the roller machine went boobs up :(.

Simply the best NY style pizza I’ve encountered in Portland! I must’ve passed by this place several hundred times before realizing it was something more than your average convenience store. When I discovered the treasure hidden inside I couldn’t contain my excitement. The pizza is fantastic, and I’m not normally huge on slices due to the inherent nature of the way they are pre-cooked and reheated but they pull it off here with great success. I’ve only ever had the pepperoni but that’s all I need. They keep their toppings simple and let the pizza itself do the talking. Also try the garlic rolls, little garlicky, cheesy, puffs of warm doughy air. They’re analogous to the savory version of a fresh and hot krispy kreme glazed donut. And only 75 cents a pop! I’ve heard good things about their sandwiches and calzones too! When I was last there a few weeks ago I noticed they were working on expanding their seating, looks like they are getting popular, yay!

I had hoped for better. Came in to grab a quick slice for lunch last week with my father, whom had just taken his lunch break from work to come meet me there. We got our slices, paid, sat down, and ate. The slices were burnt to the point that neither of us ate our crusts which was unfortunate. Service was subpar as well. I get where the location is but there is no need to act suspicious towards customers which clearly aren’t there to rob the place. We did not feel welcomed one bit.

Their white pizza is out of this world. Seriously. I’ve never had anything like it. I’ve eaten several of their pizzas every one was a white pizza. Sometimes just plain, other times with mushrooms and olives. The pizza is cooked to perfection. Save room for the cannoli.

Don’t let the rugged exterior fool. This family run store and pizzeria are outstanding. The owner works hard to make sure the customers leave happy, full and entertained. I would strongly recommend you give this place a shot. Pizza is NY style, with a thin crust and a great sauce.

As others have mentioned, this may be the most authentic NY style in Portland and it’s located in the least likely of places(a gas station on 82nd and Holgate). It’s not fancy, it doesn’t have artisan pizza or any of that stuff… just good old fashioned Italian food. Something that is hard to come across here in Portland. Slices are two bucks, pepperoni ones are 2.50. You can buy a can of soda or any of the dozens of beverages that are sold in the convenience store section of this place. The family that runs this place is super friendly, and you can tell that they put a lot of work into the food. The pizza is thin and greasy, and you have to fold the slices if you want to fit it in your mouth. It’s the quintessential dollar slice experience you can find in Manhattan… in Portland! I just wish this place was a lot closer to where I live, because I would come here several times a week if I could. I want to return and try their meatball sub along with some of their other sandwiches, along with the cannoli.

I was pretty surprised at how good my sub tasted since it came out of a convenience store. I got the 6″ Italian and was not disappointed! I didn’t have much time and just happened to be passing by when I saw the saw for pizza by the slice, so I pulled in. They were out and it was going to be about 10 minutes, which if I hadn’t needed to get back to work wouldn’t have been a big deal. So that’s when I went with the sub. And I’m glad I did. It tasted so good and you can tell they use fresh ingredients. I also got one of their garlic rolls. Another winner! Very tasty. I’m not in this neighborhood much, but the next time I am, I will be back. Next time I’m going to try the pizza. They do have a few tables, so if it’s only you or a few people, you can eat there. Otherwise, I suggest carrying out!

Over 100 check ins and I’m still a satisfied customer! This couple, pour their hearts and souls into every sub, pie, house made soup and cannoli. I’ve had them all! The best Italian and meatball subs in town. The pizza is always consistently perfect and the cannoli is better than what I had in little Italy. The only downside to this place is that the secret is out. It’s busier every day. This does not detour them from keeping a quality, iron fist on the product they put out. The help they hire seem to be in an apprenticeship. A watchful eye on their every move. If it’s not perfect, it doesn’t get served to the customer. There is an immense pride in the product they hand you. Eugene and Petra are welcoming and always happy to tell you how they prepare your food. If you’re a regular, they treat you like family. If you’re a first timer, they answer any question you have and I’ve seen them offer samples to the pickiest of people who always seem to leave with a smile. They appreciate your patronage. In fact, because I have over 100 check ins, they have awarded me a free pizza. Love this place!

Only in Portland. That is right. Only in Portland will you find some of the best NY/NJ style pizza in town located within an unassuming convenience store on a corner of 82nd and Holgate. It blows my mind. I read about this place quite a while ago, but thought they had gone out of business. Last week I saw a blurb on them in the weekend section of the Oregonian and knew that I wanted to give this place a try. Sue and I actually came out here for their subs. We both really enjoy another sub shop in town and she suggested we go there for lunch, but I brought up Giants NY Pizza(I am a NY Giants fan so I love the name of this place even though it doesn’t make a lick of sense) and that is where we went. Walking in we were immediately greeted with a smile. We ordered our subs and waited patiently at one of the 3 tables they have. The husband and wife who own this place are Romanian, but I believe he did some cooking in Italy(if memory serves me right). I took a look at the pizza and visually it looked wonderful. We were already slated to have pizza with some friends that night, but the owner convinced us to get a slice of the plain split down the middle so that we could at least try it. I am glad we did. It took me right back home to NJ. Plain slice on a paper plate. No thrills, just chills. $ 15 gets you a plain pie and how could that be bad? The subs run around $ 6.50 for a 12″. Not as much meat in there as the article said there would be, but it was well presented on a springy roll. The woman knew that I wouldn’t want any mayo or mustard as I told her I was from the east coast. We took them home and ate half of them right away. Sue still thinks the other sub shop we go to is better, but I think this one was close enough and the value is much better as well. There will definitely be a pie from this place coming to me in the very near future.

People of Portland, there is finally a pizza place that is truly worthy of calling itself NJ/NY pizza. It’s in a convenience store. Yes, a convenience store. Hey, when you were growing up you learned«Don’t judge a book by its cover.» That holds true here. Yes folks, a convenience store that sells soda, high energy drinks, beer and too much jerky and fried pork skins also has some of this towns best pizza. One of the few that can actually consider itself east coast, NJ/NY pizza. Here’s the second surprise, the couple that runs this place aren’t even from the tri-state area(NY/NJ/CT), they are from a bit further south. The home of the east coast version of loud football uniforms, Maryland. So how does a couple from Maryland, with a convenience store and just a small gas powered pizza oven manage to turn out pizza better than some of the overhyped places in the inner southeast? More of a rhetorical question really. But forget the inner southeast. Head out to Lents and head to 82nd and Holgate(SE corner) and it will not disappoint. They also have subs and pepperoni rolls and I believe garlic knots too. As for this pizza I am gushing over? First off it’s cooked in just a gas pizza oven. Not some brick oven that came over piece by piece from a town in Italy and does not use coal from a small coastal village in East Africa. It’s not flashy. It’s not mass market pizza. It’s good NJ/NY pizza that has a great, crispy crust that is cooked through. Gooey, gooey and just the right amount of salty cheese, a sauce that brings them together and just the perfect amount of pepperoni. What would you pay for this folks??? How about their two sizes L and XL are only $ 11.95 and $ 13.95 respectively, plus toppings. You can get out of there by spending less than $ 20. You cannot say that about the pizza joints in inner southeast. They have all the usual toppings but they also have fresh garlic. That is what I grew up on and I can’t wait to order a fresh garlic pie. I know you might be complaining about how far it is but you folks in Nob Hill and St. Johns, Slabtown and Sellwood, make your way to Lents. You won’t regret this decision. On to my next pizza joint… do support this place, it may not be all pretty like, but it’s about the food. Enjoy.

Excellent customer service. This place is one word: FRESH Everything is all fresh including the sausage which is flat shaped! The dough wasn’t greasy like most pizza spots & I love that although it’s New York Style pizza, it didn’t fall apart on me or flop like most greasy NY style pizza. We also had gotten the cannoli which was made fresh when ordered! SOOOOOOGOOD! The garlic bread was meh though, it looked better than it taste in my opinion. Overall this place was delicious! Will definitely be back once I’m in town again.
