This is my favorite coffee shop in Portland, second to Grendel’s on Burnside and 8th. I come here all the time. I pretty much only drink iced mocha’s, so I can’t really comment on the other drinks, but the mocha’s are good.(I have had a really bad one elsewhere, so yes they can be messed up). The atmosphere is pretty great. It is quite comfortable, and I enjoy staying awhile. The music can very a bit. I read another review about music being too loud, I’ve never had that problem and come here often. The staff is always very friendly! They seem quite kind, and I enjoy interacting with them. As far as food goes, I haven’t had a WHOLE lot, but I’m a huge fan of the breakfast bagel! That is my go to. I have tried the tuna melt as well which was delicious. They have lots of bagels, sandwiches and soups etc. I strongly recommend this place :)

I give only 2 stars for their wide variety of sandwiches and that’s it… The Ruby mocha was ok but nothing special. :/I wasn’t greeted ATALL and I was standing there for a while trying to figure out what to get… def lacking good customer service! I work in cust service and all it takes is a little acknowledgement that someone is there… My grilled sandwich took FOREVER, over 15+ min to make I almost drank my whole 12oz coffee just waiting. No one even said«thanks, have a good day» when I left… Rude girls. Go to *Southeast Grind* coffee house near 17th and Powell! :) they’re awesome!

Staff was friendly and attentive. Coffee was very good but not the best brew I’ve had. Environment was very chill and warm.

This is my favorite coffee shop in Portland! Not pretentious but amazing drinks, super friendly staff and owners, and reasonably priced. My only wish is it was on a less busy street:(

There are very few times in my life I’ve wanted to run, far far away, from a service establishment. But this was one of those times. First, I walked in to an empty pastry case glowing florescent yellow with one, yes, ONE, croissant in it, looking all dry and sad and old. It was about noon on a Wednesday. Then, I had to yell at the barista to be heard over the blaring loud Alice and Chains that was shaking the room. The barista– the only person in the building as far as I could tell– had heavy goth makeup and just kind of glared at me while I ordered. I paid, then waited for my drink. When she had made my americano, she set it down rather hard, and just looked my way to make sure I had seen my drink come up, used no words, then turned around to do something else. Okay then. I could give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she was just having an off day and she’s not always terrifying and unpleasant. The coffee station was a big mess though. The tiny brown bottle that I think usually holds simple syrup was empty. There was sugar all over the table, along with someone else’s spilled coffee. And the trash can had old coffee dripping down the outside. Kinda gross for an area I’m supposed to doctor my coffee. I had planned to hang out for a while, but the music was SOLOUD and Alice and Chains is not my cup of tea and I already felt like I was on the girl’s hit list, so I ran out as fast as I could. It was like emerging into a world of sunshine and happy things once on the sidewalk. Whew! Two stars instead of zero because the coffee was very good and it’s a coffee café after all.

Love this place! Old Portland character, great music, comfy chairs. Delicious bagel sandwich and chai served in a Charlie Brown mug. Heaven.

Honestly, this is the only Cold Brew I like in PDX. Love this little gem. Always full of regulars & super nice staff.

Good sandwiches, good people, good music, good atmosphere. In a word, good. For crisakes, too short for a review? Ok, here’s a pic of my table,

I love this place but my husband won’t go anymore. I used walk there with my pup and they didn’t mind if I rushed in really fast with him, grabbed my coffee and peaced. I probably did it about 10 times within 2 – 3 weeks of first moving here. He loved going there because he knew he would get a treat and this was the first time he had ever gotten to walk in a metro area. When you have a dog that doesn’t always do well with other dogs and he gets to do something like this, you feel really happy(and proud) for him. My husband took him once and they refused him service. He came home livid. It’s very rare I see him angry. I get that it isn’t normal for places to allow dogs to enter. I think he just felt bad for our pup who was really excited and maybe jealous that I got to do it so many times. People who love their dog like kids are so annoying right? :) More importantly though! Yummy pastries and coffee! The veggie bagel Sammie is really good! Great deal on a pound of beans.

I just wish this place had a little more daylight. But I cozied up at the bar at the window with a crossword and was perfectly content for a couple hours. Good enough coffee.

I’ve passed this place many times and decided to stop today to grab a quick iced coffee cause I was parched. This here place is located in a renovated historical storefront. Street parking only. Bike parking as well. There were only three customers inside and no one waiting to order. We order board was busy. They are for sandwiches, bagels, sweets, pastries, coffees, teas and so on. The Décor was vintage earthy hippie cute. Second, third, or fourth hand furniture and armchairs with the cushions already broke in… like REALLY broke in. Vintage knick knacks and worn wood plank flooring. I approached the counter and was not greeted, just looked at… as if I was supposed to make the first move. You know … That awkward stare down when you’re thinking they are supposed to say«may I help you» or «hi!» Or something else and they don’t say it. After what seemed like minutes, I asked for an iced coffee. I was asked what size I would like and I responded what sizes do you have. Here comes that look again like I am a dumbass for not knowing what sizes they have. So I said large and he pulled the glass that looked more like a medium then I asked if there was anything larger than that and of course there was the big humdinger 20 ounce. Hmmmm doesn’t large mean large? :-) Glad we finally got the ordering done… That was painful. After that there was no way I was ordering anything else. Now this isn’t my first coffee rodeo. A 20 ounce iced coffee was $ 3.75 which is high-end for these parts of town by about a $ 1. It was good coffee but with ice it was approximately 10 ounces of plain coffee for $ 3.75 and I had to put the lid on it. Expensive! I will give it a try again in the future to see if this is the norm or just an «off» day. 2015 – 72

Good enough I suppose! The coffee isn’t Stumptown(thank god) and it’s pretty good for regular drip coffee. The music is always really nice(today was old blues, A+!). They have vegetarian sandwich options and have a wide variety of bagels(if you get there before they sell out). The minimum purchase for plastic is $ 3, which is awesome. The décor is great and there’s ample seating that doesn’t impede the line that forms from the counter. My only complaints are that I wish they had a vegan patty option, rather than just vegetarian. But they have lots of vegetables available, so it’s not like I’m stuck with plain bagels. Also, I feel like they should spruce up the décor with lots of plants! They have so much natural light with the big windows up front and the two windows high up facing the counter. A few plants sitting on those window ledges and a few others hanging in front of the front windows would make this coffee shop my favorite place in the world.

Coffee is great. Baristas are nice. Maybe too nice? They spend so much time talking to customers that every single time I’m in there I have to wait until conversations are finished. One time my bagel had popped up in toaster and the guy is sweeping and I’m like excuse me can you please get my bagel out of the toaster? Just neglecting customer service to sweep? Bagel was cold and not what I asked for. I try to avoid this place now.

I had turkey and cranberry sandwich in rye for breakfast since bagels fill me up too uncomfortably. They were open at 7a on a Saturday before a class, which was very convenient. The ladies behind the bar were helpful and very friendly.

This place is exactly why I hate getting coffee– I walk in and people are working but just prepping materials for the day, no one greets me and when they do after a few minutes they say«I’ll be with you in a minute.» Fine. It’s 6am and I’m the only person trying to buy something but I wait. And wait. And wait. She was just making a sandwich! Finally the person cleaning the machines says she will help me, and she takes my order. Coffee was decent but jeez people, it doesn’t take a lot of talent to take money for coffee but apparently they are terminally untalented!

I hate to say there’s nothing really outstanding about this place. Decent coffee and what looks like a decent food menu, but nothing to write home about. If I’m in the area I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to return though. The prices are very reasonable and I do appreciate their seating options. Tons of outlets too!

Best coffee shop I’ve been to in PDX. Love the people who own it. Love the food. They customize coffee the way you want it, and provide great service with a great individual, non corporate vibe to the place. If you are a Starbucks lover, don’t bother, it doesn’t resemble the giant green corporate idiocracy at all. They have artwork on the walls from independant artists that changes weekly, or biweekly. They have some great sandwiches as well

Had a nice café au lait and used their wifi while waiting for a business next door to open. good feel — food menu looked delish. greeting was not instant, but got what I needed. Okay pricing. I’ll go back if in the area. Like to support local businesses that serve coffee — instead of the S word
