This place knows good Southern food. The cajun ranch was amazing. The catfish po’boy was phenomenal and the fried okra was okra perfection. And the hot sauce… oh the hot sauce.

Had to try it after so many neighbors recommended it. SO glad I did. Had the halibut and it was perfection. Delicious, fresh-tasting, perfectly seasoned, so different and not greasy compared to most fried fish you will get in town, and great fries. Super nice people, hooked us up with all the sauces that are equally amazing. I think it was well worth the price to have some amazing fresh food and support a local business. Will definitely be back for more!

Deeeeliscious! He had the halibut and I had a bite and it was flaky, not greasy, juuuust right. I had the catfish, very tasty. Boyfriend grumbled a little about the price but I paid and I said they are a small business and need our help. I would highly recommend this friendly cute little shack

Can’t wait for jimmy a to be back! Maybe the best chicken fingers ever, perfectly fried and juicy, great crispy catfish and man, I could drink that vinegary hot sauce. Love their delicious greens… made with smoked turkey, so they’re not greasy like a lots of places in town. Oh and that okra! I could live on that okra and hot sauce. Order your food and eat with a good pint of beer from next door at hillbilly’s, it all feels like a little hidden secret. Like you’ve been welcomed into someone’s back yard cookout. Get well soon jimmy, come back to us!

We ordered the sampler, grilled jumbo prawns, and lemonade for take out. The jumbo prawns were my favorite. They were grilled perfectly. The sampler had a good selection of southern fried fish, fries, coleslaw, and a roll. The fried tilapia was not my favorite, but the halibut and catfish were delicious. The best part of ordering from this cart is the selection of hot sauce and other sauces. I came away with handfuls of samples to have with my fries and fish, and they worked perfectly together. The people who run the cart are the nicest too. She explained each of the sauces and was not bothered when I packaged up containers of most of them to take with me. None were wasted — they were all great. I need to come back and try other things off the menu, but I know I will always order the grilled prawns. Those were the highlight from our last order. Maybe those garlic onion rings next time???

This place is great! Had some Catfish, okra, and slaw that were tops. Great southern recipes and fresh ingredients.

Another great addition to the neighborhood. My family is from the Deep South and I take my southern food very seriously. Most options in Portland are fine, but not really authentic. This was truly southern style AND delicious! First of all, Andre is a delight! Great, very friendly customer service! The fish(halibut) was fried exactly the way my grandma in Georgia does it, in true southern style. I love the cornmeal breading. The other nice surprise was how fresh the coleslaw was. Everything else was great too, from the fries to something as seemingly simple as the hot sauce. The only non-authentic thing was that the food came in a biodegradable container. In the south, that would have been styrofoam. But that was a welcome change. :) I’m already planning what I’ll get next time!

I had the 2 piece catfish and fries for lunch at an earlier date, they were both quite good although the fries were a bit soggy and not really crisp. The major issue I have with Grandpa Jimmy’s is defining exactly what IS a ‘piece’of catfish. In my world a piece of catfish is a filet, unless it comes from a very large fish-in Grandpa Jimmy’s world, a piece of catfish is a filet that has been cut in half thereby making two pieces. So by Grandpa Jimmys standards, one filet can be two pieces of fish, hell why not cut it into thirds and call it three pieces of fish. No no, why not cut it into eights and call that the family platter(see where I am going with this).

Nice to have Jimmy’s in the neighborhood. I have tried several items on the menu and they were all excellent. The greens, served only on the weekends, are to die for. Andre is also a super friendly guy and who really cares about his customers. Keep up the good work!!!

Super thrilled to have this cart in the neighborhood! In my opinion, southern fried catfish is the best soul food, and very often misrepresented in the Pacific NW. We had the catfish dinner, fried okra, and chx tenders. Everything was excellent, and as it should be. All the various sauces they offered were delicious and complementary as well. Super friendly crew. We called in order and it was ready when they said it would be. Being from Arkansas, I grew up having catfish dinner out with my family most Friday nights. So very excited to be able to continue this tradition. This place is truly a treat to reward yourself after a long week, or any other time for that matter!

Tried the sampler plate tonight. It was great! Catfish, Halibut, and Tilapia with fries and colesaw. I loved the cornmeal batter. My kids raved over the chicken tenders and greens! Really nice people running the place. We’ll be back!
