Walked here during my lunch break at work and ordered a lamb gyro. There was quite a line and I ended up having to eat while running back to work. Worth it! It was delicious.

One of the few food stands open in the later parts of the evening! With that being said, wait time can be quite long! Without sounding like an entitled and impatient Californian, all I can say is don’t come here while being HANGRY. You will have to wait lol The man taking orders though… I can appreciate him taking orders, cooking, and serving but holy crap bro… I ordered a beef kebab plate over rice… and not only did he REPEAT my order to me. THEORDERENDEDUPBEINGWRONGWHEN I GOTMYFOOD… I ended up getting a box of falafels over rice? Keep in mind that I had waited over 20 minutes at this point. When I told him he got the wrong order, all he could mumble was«You said falafel, and well do you want this or not?» Dude took my $ 7 and slopped a ton of hot sauce over my plate. Beef Kebab sounds nothing like Falafel. The falafel plate itself wasn’t THAT bad… it had a huge serving of rice, 6 pieces of falafel, hummus/tzatki. They put garlic and hot sauce over it too which made it tasty. Spices hit the spot and was the high note of the meal. Super flavorful. The falafels themselves were only lukewarm and couple have been crispier(maybe not fresh fried) and he put a couple handfuls of iceberg lettuce mix over steaming rice. WILT city lol But bottom line I was pissed because I had my heart set on trying the kebab(after going back and fourth in my head over the chicken) but end of the day i got NEITHER. Would I try the falafel again? No. The food shows potential but a long wait time + poor customer service = overall bad experience. I’m sure it would have been better had I went during the day time. DONOVANLIFEADVICE — As a public health professional, it was a little bothersome to see the guy handle food and money… with only one gloved hand? QUESTIONABLE as well!

My bf and I came here starving on our way home from a long plane and MAX ride. We both got the falafel pita and it was absolutely delicious. The falafel was not dry at all, which is a common reason why I don’t always love it. The spicy sauce, tahini and hummus added excellent flavor. I also enjoyed the grape leaves that came with his Greek salad. Don’t think I could ever make halal this wonderful at home!

Questionable food handling practices! I was quite a fan until I saw how the guy handles RAW Kofta meat and then with the same glove clad hands, puts lettuce and carrots on my veggie falafel(without changing his glove). The guy seriously needs to slow down and change his gloves. Does he really have a food handler’s permit? Does he care? I’ve worked in delis and my mom’s a chef, and know you just don’t do this! Having said all of this the food is better than average and I love middle eastern food, as my mom is Turkish and eaten real Shawarma in the middle east, but what they serve here is just those frozen pre-made gyro strips fyi. I saw they had an actual shawarma spinning only once and then went away, so that sign is misleading. What is really good here is the falafel! I love it and couldn’t get enough of it while I was eating here. It’s full of coriander seeds and has a wonderful crispy, light texture, and is so aromatic. They also dress it up nicely with lots of yogurt and veggies and hummas and a flavorful hot sauce which I believe contains harissa. The bread is average but the contents are killer. All for $ 5.00. I also like their chicken gyro and the chicken over rice dish. The chicken has a nice mild curry flavor and the presentation is great with all the yogurt and salad. The rice is pretty average though. I always wanted to get the kofta but once I saw how they handled food here I quit going. I hope they slow down and start using proper food handling practices and then I’ll happily return and raise my number of starts to 4 or 5. Insha’ Allah.

10:45 at night on a Friday and I just got a delicious lamb gyro very quickly. Unilocal’s hours are incorrect!

I’ve tried a couple things here both were lamb. I had the lamb gyro a few times. The lamb is delicious, but they slather the entire gyro in too much sauce. I’ve asked for them to go lite on the sauces, but they didn’t understand. I’ve also had their lamb over rice. The photo they have on the menu shows long slices of lamb like they have on the gyro, but when I got it the lamb was so chopped up it was unrecognizable. You wouldn’t even know it was lamb the pieces were so small. If they show a picture of what they’re going to serve me then I want it identical to that. The 2nd time I ordered lamb over rice I asked for the shaved lamb, but had no idea what I was saying. I gave up. With that said, they’re never open consistently and their service is sooo slow. If there’s two people in front of me ordering one gyro a piece it takes 20 minutes. That’s not okay at a food cart. I see so many people walk away when there’s 4 people in line, because it takes so long. They have 2 cooks! I don’t get it. They’d do 3 times the business if they’d speed things up, which is in their best interest.

This was the first food truck we tried in Portland, so hunger might have contributed to this rating, but we definitely enjoyed our lamb gyro. The hubby and I decided to just get one since we wanted to try a few different food trucks. The line wasn’t too long when we got there(only about 3 people ahead of us) but it did move kind of slowly since the guy takes your order and gives you your food before you step out of line. He asks if you want spicy sauce, and we accepted even though I’m sometimes wary of taking any spicy sauce that doesn’t have a mild, med, or hot rating for fear that it might be intolerable for me. Luckily, the spicy sauce was just enough to give it a kick but not so much that I couldn’t eat the gyro. It was actually a delicious sauce when mixed with everything else. Overall, very juicy and yummy gyro and my hubby and I ate the thing pretty quickly. Only thing is that the pieces of lamb were thin slices and we usually like chunks of meat. Still good though.

Hands Down the BEST gyro from a food cart in Portland. The guys here are always friendly, smiling, helpful, and get your order right regardless of how busy they are. Oh yeah, there’s always a line and they only take cash! Minor details, minor obstacles. These guys are good at what they do, they work fast, they fill orders, and they move the line along quickly. Don’t get weirded out if you order and then you’re ignored for a few minutes while they take and fill more orders. They will take your money when they hand you your food :). The portions are huge, the gyros are fresh, and the ingredients are on point! Filled with falafel or meat of choice, lettuce, shredded carrot, a generous slathering of tzatziki sauce; make sure to get it «spicy»! It doesn’t really make it spicy, it just adds a ton of flavor. For only $ 5 a piece, you can’t get a more flavorful, fulfilling decent meal anywhere else for the price. Added bonus:(this may have changed looking at their new hours on here) they are open super late, so after imbibing stop by for a gyro to-go as you catch the max or bus home bound!

If there is a line at any establishment, it’s safe to assume that the food is good. That is definitely the case for Gyro House. Walked by here after just scarfing down the chicken rice from Nong Khao Man Gai and so we ordered some gyro’s to go. Even an hour later the gyro’s were still good, albeit it was a tad bit cold. Line was a bit long(longer than Nong Khao Man Gai), but totally worth it.

Ate here two days in a row, seriously amazing lamb gyros!!! They were huge and flavorful. So good and filling at such a cheap price… They prepare the food really fast too. I enjoyed watching the chef throwing ingredients onto the grill lol. The chicken with rice was also wonderful, but when you have a chance just get their gyros!!!

Let me get this out of the way, the wait was excruciating esp. when you’re second in line. Now the wait was worth it because I’ve never had such tender lamb meat interlaced with sumptuous salad and zinger of sauce, all served a in a warm hugging bread. OK, I’m lying I have had this elsewhere, but who cares, this is now and this house rocks!

We went to the Gyro House on a Saturday night when most of the other food trucks were closed already, but it didn’t matter, because Gyro House serves some of the best food in Portland. I was starving, so I ordered a Gyro Plate on rice with hummus and a Falafel plate. They were both so good! The owner was really nice and the service was great.

Came here late on a Sunday night because I was hungry and needed to eat. i left my crying kids in the car with my girlfriend hoping that I could grab my food and go. Boy was I wrong! There were two parties ahead of me so I patiently waited in line and then proceeded to order a lamb gyro, which should take all of 5 minutes to make. I waited for the two parties ahead of me to receive there food for what seemed like forever. While I did, several more people ordered food and some dude had an allergic reaction to the baklava they served him. After those parties left, I noticed that someone who had ordered after me received their food too. I figured this was a fluke and waited patiently for another 5 minutes(total wait time of over 25 minutes at this point). When another party received their entire order ahead of me I was livid and asked where my food was. The cashier said that he didn’t know and that he would start making it. No apology or offering to make things better. What a chump! This fool cost me 30 minutes of my life that I will never get back. I will not be coming back. And neither should you unless you feel like waiting around for nothing.

What stays in Vegas … wait, whoops, we’re not in Vegas are we? I know that sounds funny for a food cart in Portland, Oregon, but when you visit, you’ll see why I got that thought. This food cart stands out because it’s big, has really flashy signage that reminds me of signs in Vegas, has about three small seating areas(which is great for tired feet), music, strung-up lights, and an ATM machine. I would not have been surprised to turn a corner and find people shooting craps. My first impression was one of flashiness that might not pan out to good food. I’m glad about ignoring my first impression and reading their excellent Unilocal reviews. I studied their menu that is large and impressive in that it takes up one whole side of the food cart top to bottom(with excellent pictures of each dish). They have every Middle eastern dish you could want, so I ordered a beef gyro. They were out of the beef, so the counter person suggested hamburger. I agreed to the hamburger, and the cook hand-formed the patty out of fresh meat, and I was happy to see that. The burger was perfectly seasoned and cut in strips before being wrapped up with the fresh veggies and topped off with a piquant made-on-site tzatziki sauce(and plenty of that on the go). Do not take off the paper/foil wrapping on this sandwich, but peel down bit by bit or you will end up a happy but messy patron. This cart’s staff is prepared for anything: One whole table was stacked with pyramids of peeled cucumbers. Be prepared to order quickly here and have your cash ready to go. The counter staff are polite, a little impersonal and brisk, but they’re an ambitious and busy group and ready to push product. You are more than welcome to use the seating areas, but don’t linger once you’re done; I watched them shoo away a group of young women who were using the seating area to make plans for the evening. If you want a lot of visual stimulation and a delicious sandwich(or other dish) via Vegas via Portland, this is the perfect place. If you want to frequent the venue while it’s a food cart, I’d do it soon. I have a feeling Gyro House’s owner has ambitions to have a brick-and-mortar restaurant or perhaps even a club? To which I say good on him(or her). It’s the American Dream realized.

Good Mediterranean food cart which is open till late at night. I have been to this place multiple times over the last year and a half and have liked their food. Their chicken and lamb both are good and flavorful. They are open till late and the food is cheap. So, this place stands for everything that I like about food carts. Chicken gyro is very tasty and the pita is really soft. I tried the chicken saj yesterday, it has grilled wrap around the chicken, and it was also good. The chicken or lamb over rice is also a favorite. The rice is so nice to eat. I would recommend this place if you want to get good Mediterranean food cart food even if it is not late at night, and this is one of the few options available.

Food Carts are a must in Portland! We walked around the block and this food cart stood out to us. When asking another lady in line, she stated that their food is super delicious so we decided on sharing a rice dish between 4 people because we didn’t want to get full and we also wanted to get more food hehe: D We were really curious as to if the rice dish would look and be comparable to Halal cart in NYC. So the rice dish was really delicious. Although it is comparable to Halal cart in New York, it is also very different. I thought the yellow rice was soft and really tasty! Everything was flavorful of course and the yogurt really complimented the food. I’m really glad that we decided to share it because it more just enough for all of us to have a lot of bites, try it, but not get stuffed. WARNING: Sharing between 4 people can get messy. Errr maybe I just suck at picking up rice with my fork but I spilled everywhere on the table :( Service was very whatever. The guy took our order however he just walked away without saying anything. Then he came back and gave us our order first?! Very confusing because the girl before us ordered the same thing but we got our order first? Very very confusing. TIP: I wouldn’t recommend coming on a Sunday which was what we did because most of them aren’t even open and some that were open were going to close early.

New Gyro spot smacked on 82nd. There are quite a lot of options to choose from here not just the typical gyro sandwich with lamb, onions, taziki, tomatoes, and feta cheese. This gyro is the size of a flying saucer. When the dish comes out you kind of gawk at it for a moment because you don’t know if you can finish it! It’s filled to the max with meat. You would think they own a butcher shop for the amount of meat they’re packing in each sandwich. This is surely the battle that quantity won over quality! This is a better option than some of the I mean a bazillion of the Mediterranean food carts out there. The other dishes they offer include mezza plates, falafel, baba ganoush, and some rice dishes. The hummous is okay. the pita bread is alright as well. I feel this would be a very successful fast food drive through restaurant. Your welcome for the business idea! Bonus: Come hungry leave full!
