Inside Electric Jatc

Area 1 JATC is a great school and program to get you into the electrical trade.
This is a 4 year program, one 4 hour class a week, and requires 8000 on the job training hours to complete. If you work full time (40 hrs) for 4 years straight, you’ll finish on time, but in this economy its Very difficult. (only 20% of my class are able to do that, the rest, myself included have to stay for «fifth year» consisting of continuing to turn in paperwork and showing up for some classes. Not so bad.
There is a consistent wage increase protocol which is great. (Unless you get held back due to many reasons…) you’ll get appox. $ 1.50 raise to your hourly rate every 6 months. Sick. You start around $ 12, and end around $ 30.
The only reason I dock points is because some things on the office side can get too complicated, and repetitive. Sometimes calling you in on days off for meetings that have been covered, plus the location is pretty far out in North Portland.
Overall JATC a great way to learn a new skill and better your community!
