I have passed this place many times on the way home from work and finally decided to stop in. The menu consists mostly of individual items, but still if you’re a party of one and not capable of wanting to double up for a family meal, this place probably isn’t for you. The food that I had was definitely edible, but I have had much better. When asked if I wanted a box for my leftovers, I politely declined. The price was a little expensive for the quality that I was served. I have to say though, that the service was just fine and I have to disagree with the negative comments made about staff. All in all, fair experience, but I don’t think I will return.

Been living in this area for about 3 years-and loved the old Jade Dragon with Helen. Was sort of skeptical when new owners took over but the food is still great. Always fast and fresh, well priced. I like that you can choose egg fried rice over plain white. Always satisfied when I have the salty Chinese food craving.

My husband and love Chinese food, so we thought we’d give this place a try. We started with sizzling rice soup. The stock had a nice flavor, but we were surprised they used fozen peas and carrots for the veg in this soup. We are use to fresh veg in the this type of soup. Such, as baby bok choy, fresh carrots and broccoli. The second appetizer was pork pot stickers. They were good. Then came the shrimp fried rice, egg foo young, Noodles with three meats(chicken, shrimp and beef). The egg foo young was tasty, but the sauce wasn’t plentiful. The remaining dishes had a good flavor, but the veg was the same frozen peas and carrots. Boring. Fresh veg would’ve been our preference. If they correct this, we’ll be back.

Love this place since new owners took over! Great, fresh food with generous helpings. Service is always friendly and fast. Great for takeout and dining in. My go-to when I crave Chinese!

New management now! I never ate there in the dark days, but it’s a solid choice now. Large takeout portions, hot, fresh. I like their chicken with snow peas and mandarin beef.

UPDATE11/01/2015: New management, food has greatly improved. Had cashew chicken, sesame beef and a couple other satisfactory dishes, so I’m adding a couple stars.

I live across the parking lot from this place and have been going here for 5 years I loved the previous waitress Helen which is why I would always go in there I’ve been in here twice since the new ownership and sadly I have to find a new Chinese place luckily I have but it’s not walking distance so I probably won’t get Chinese as often The server that waited on me the 1st time was rushing me to place my order after throwing a menu at me The 2nd time I had the same server, asked a simple question and got a rude answer in return When it was time to pay I gave him the money for the bill and when he returned with my change he just threw it on the table My BF hadn’t been in since the new owners took over and said the waiter was rude and pushy The place was completely empty aside from 1 other person They’ve also jacked the prices up to almost double from what the previous owners had them set at no wonder they never have much business We won’t be back

Under the previous owner, this place served inedible food. I wondered how they stayed in business– the bar? Today, the food is okay. It is what it is, and I’ll be a customer now. It’s the standard Chinese fare you would expect at modest prices. I’ve had lunch at Jade twice in recent weeks. The service was friendly and the lunch specials were good.

The service was great and the portions were huge! The food was definitely better than it used to be under the new owners. Hope they keep the quality like this because I will be back.

New owners are doing an amazing job. Delicious food, decent price($ 7.50-$ 8.50). I got the mandarin pork, and there was a LOT of food that came with that order on the lunch special.

Bang for your buck that will fill you up! New and old management — never had a bad experience! I frequent this place at least once a month and always have a good time. It’s one of the few Chinese places in Portland where you get 3 meals in one and the quality of food is above average. New management is certainly more friendly, family-oriented, and have spruced up the over all quality of the place(food and otherwise). Regarding other posts — I never had a bad experience with the old management but it seems like the posters expected more than a cheap Chinese place? Don’t do that.

Very yummy! Great for a quick lunch, took under 10 min to order and pick up 2 lunch specials that start at 11am — 3. Friendly and helpful staff. Fresh and delicious plus they give you options on rice and side dishes. A large array of items to order. It’s a great place too for dinner but we prefer it for lunch and the portions are big enough to feed even the hungriest person. Try it today.

I have been going to this place for years, but it recently changed ownership and I was seriously disappointed. The waiter(and son of the owner’s) was really arrogant and not open to talking about the changes whatsoever. #1: Listen to your customers, please! I feel bad for the whole family, because this place will only just survive if they keep the«New» menu and don’t offer what people want and come to expect from an American Chinese restaurant. This isn’t rocket surgery folks. #2) Sell what the customer wants, not what you want or think the customer may want. I’ve tried three times to talk to the server(son), but he’s just plain rude and aloof. On the other hand, the sister, mom and dad are really nice and super friendly. The food isn’t horrible, but I wont be back for it again. Something is just«off» at this place. Sorry!

I had never been to the«old» Jade Dragon but I heard the horror stories of unrecognizeable dishes. Well the«new» Jade Dragon is quite great. Under new management and clearly all new dishes this restaurant is poised to be a local community favorite. Having heard about the new menu and owners I decided to go with my neighbor to try it for lunch. The space is clean and very well lit and put together. We had fantastic spring rolls that were light and crunchy. We shared several dishes. The Kung Pao chicken was very fresh and I believe we also had the mandarin beef which had a fantastic sauce. We also shares the shrimp won ton soup. Overall an excellent experience and I sooo happy we now have a good chinese place in the neighborhood. The only thing I wish is that the new owners had changed the name so the old reputation would not have followed them. Hopefully they can start getting the word out that their food is great!!!

I really wanted to like this place… That being said, my experience with my take-out order was horrible and I will likely not go back. I didn’t call ahead and walked in to place my order for three entrees. There were 3 filled tables of two in the restaurant, otherwise it was empty. I paid and then just kept waiting and waiting. When I finally asked the young waiter if my food was coming soon, he was very glib and blew me off. He did indicate that his uncle was the owner. I asked for a comment card because I knew this place was under new management, and I thought the new owners should know my experience. He basically again blew me off and gave me an used old receipt to write my comments. I couldn’t have gotten my money back right then because then he reported his computer system was down. Sadly, at least my experience, is that new management is not enough to transform this sad inhospitable restaurant.

New management has completely redone this place. It is sparkly clean and has all new décor and furniture(or maybe it just seems that way). The friendly service is great, and the food is fantastic! In fact, I’m willing to say that this is the best Chinese food I’ve had in Portland. We started out with an appetizer, introducing our son to Pot Stickers. We were not disappointed! They were very fresh and tender. We also ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork and Cashew Chicken with Water Chestnuts. Delicious! Our son is now a fan, asking when we can eat there again! The vegetables were cooked just right, not over-done, and there was plenty. We were pleasantly stuffed and will certainly be back!

I came back with a friend for dinner. It was great to see tables occupied! I ordered the #1 special which was orange chicken, egg fried rice and beef w/broccoli. All was delish! The chicken was not overly breaded or too sweet and the broccoli was crisp and fresh. My friend had the chicken with green beans. White chicken — not breaded. She enjoyed her dinner as well. We each had a glass of Pinot Gris. I don’t know what ‘brand’ it was, but it was not from a box(at least I don’t think). Very attentive and great service. The new owners must have installed more lighting as it is much brighter that before.

We have lived in the neighborhood for 13 years and this place used to be awful. Since the new ownership took over recently, the Dragon has been reborn. I would give the food 3.5 stars but the cleanliness and friendly staff round it to a 4. Big portions, good soups and the food came out hot and fresh. FYI: this place was a 1-star prior but they have really turned things around. We are very excited and graceful in now having a relevant Chinese restaurant in the restaurant wasteland of Hillsdale.

Excellent food at a reasonable price. It seems as if this place has been bought out by new owners and they have cleaned up very well, the restaurant/bar its spotless. The menu has changed as well, it’s like a whole different place. The most important thing of all its the food, the food was great, fresh vegetables and seafood, some of the best Chinese food I have had in Portland. Let’s not forget about the cocktails, the drinks are amazing, I mean who doesn’t love to get their drink on, specially when it’s serve by such a handsome gentleman. The staff was very attentive, I will definitely come back for more.
