I had James come out to the house to look at my refrigerator/​freezer which stopped cooling. I used him despite some of the questionable reviews because no one else could come out the same day.
He came in the house and asked me «What works and what doesn’t work?» I told him the symptoms and he said I needed a new fridge. THAT’S IT! 1 minute conversation! No tools!
I’m not quite sure how he came to that conclusion without even touching the fridge with the exception of opening the door, but I was not convinced. I pressed him on why we couldn’t have had this conversation over the phone he started rambling on and on about understanding «cause and effect». At this point, I was truly convinced I was getting the «run around».
Then he asked for his $ 90 fee for coming out. I asked him to send me an invoice with all the details regarding his diagnosis and I’ll send him a check later on (after another opinion). He waived the fee and lectured me that I was «high strung».
It seems to me that this guy didn’t want to put in any work and just collect his diagnosis fee for showing up, which is pretty sad. I’m sure (I hope) this guy does some good work, but for those of you brave enough to use this guy, feel free to challenge him with questions if you feel cheated. He seems to waive the fee with no fight when he can’t backup his work.
I will not call James back and I do not recommend using his services.
UDPATE:
I had Reliable Home Appliance Repair come out later in the week. They replaced the starter and the refrigerator is up and running! The total came out to $ 209 ($ 40 of that was the part). I’ll put the rest of my details regarding Reliable Home Appliance on their Unilocal page.
JR Repair in the end tried to rip me off. Do not call this guy!

On Friday 2÷13÷2015 I scheduled an appointment for the following day between 9:00 am and 10:00 am. NO CALL NO SHOW at 11 I called Jr and asked what was going on. James told me he couldn’t find my house (which is impossible to miss) and magically the phone number I gave him was also wrong. pretty weird since the day before you ready both my number and address back to me multiple times and they were correct. I canceled a job I needed to do and lost $ 1,200.00 I am a small local contractor barely making it to loose out not only on work but also have James totally flake out is disappointing to say the least. when I spoke to James he made it sound like my fault and now he is busy and I could reschedule yeah no thank you. never will I call James again

I was very impressed with the technician who came out to my home. He was polite, courteous, and very knowledgeable. He handled my problem without an issue and only charged me $ 90 for it (I figured it would be at least $ 200). I will definitely be using this company again!

Ridiculously overpriced. A 25 minute garbage disposal repair that utilized no additional parts ended up costing $ 215. You’ll get a lot of fast talking and a lot of words justifying the bill but it’s false. You’ll be spending way too much money. I would never do business with them again.

Our dishwasher went out this morning. I called James. He had the part and showed up this afternoon and fixed our dishwasher for a fraction of the price of a new one. We will be calling James again!

My Dishwasher was filled with water and disgusting food residue last night and when i called JR this AM at 7:45 he set a same day appointment at noon on a friday. his service call fee seems lower than most already and i got an unexpected discount because he repaired our washing machine about 3 years ago. both repairs were due to us getting things stuck in our appliances (baby booty in the washer, olive pit in the dishwasher) so they were not the most complex of repairs but he was fast, on time and i thought very reasonably priced since these are fix it jobs beyond our normally handy expertise. Thanks again!

The first time we called this guy we had to cancel our appointment the day before. He spaced out and showed up anyways. The second time we called, for a front loader washer that didn’t drain, he came out spent about 5 minutes looking at it before he claimed that that model of Maytag had problems and we should just use it until it died. Now the machine had had the same problem in the past and a different repairman had come out and cleaned the filter and fixed it. My mother was at home when the guy came out, so we called him after she told us what he had said and asked him why he didn’t bother to even check the drain filter. Said that,“He didn’t want the aggravation”. He had brought his girlfriend along with him to the service call and she was waiting in the car. We paid $ 55 for him to do exactly nothing and I suspect that he just did not want to make his girl wait too long while he actually had to do something aggravating, LIKE ACTUALLY FIX OUR WASHER. The guy told us that he would have charged us $ 145 if he would’ve actually cleaned said filter, which is an outrageous price considering the last repair guy charged $ 55 to show up AND clean the filter. DO NOT use J&R Repairs & Installs if you know what it good for you, totally unprofessional, lazy and unreliable.

We are getting our dishwasher repaired for $ 100 less than this guy quoted, plus the other company gave us a free estimate.

We had a problem with our range so we looked to Unilocal and went with JR Repair. James was easy to work with, showed up on time, was courteous, and told me the truth about my range. James advised us to get a new range instead of trying to repair the old one that had a plethora of problems. His advice saved us a lot of money and stress. Thank you James!

I am very glad I found JR Repair & Installs here on Unilocal.I gave their number to my girlfriend, who needed help with her vibrating washing machine. They made a housecall after asking her all kinds of questions on the phone (that could help her troubleshoot the problem without their involvement = awesome!). In the housecall, they found a simple problem and solved it in a matter of minutes. The charged the minimum charge for the visit and even helped her with her dryer. Everything is working great now and my girlfriend is really happy. These guys are awesome. I would not hesitate to refer them again.

They saved me the cost of a service call.
Just had a problem with our gas cooktop — it was «clicking» constantly because water had gotten into the circuits (after another company’s house cleaning). The next morning, I called JR, described the problem and what I had done. He quizzed me a bit more, suggested that I wait another 24 hours.
And it worked! Just 4 hours later, the clicking stopped.
He could have easily come right over, made a bundle, and fooled us. Instead, he diagnosed the problem over the phone, reassured me, and helped me be patient. Thanks!

When our Bosch washer stopped working, we gave JR Repair and Installs a call. James was easy to schedule, arrived right when he said he would, and quickly identified the problem – our unit’s motor.
He had a new motor shipped from the warehouse and installed it on a return visit. Unit is as good as new and it’s washing as I type.
I had a very positive experience with JR Repair and Installs and would not hesitate to use them again.
