Walked the entire area they are supposed to be for an hour and a half and they were not there on a Sunday afternoon. If your not operating on a Sunday update your hours. I was craving sisig and lumpia like you wouldn’t believe. If I ever find the place I’ll update my review.

Cart is no longer there. I’ve gone looking for it on 4 different occasions. If you call the number listed, sometimes a person answers however they are not helpful. They just keep saying that it’s right near the grocery store and they claim you can see it from the road. You can’t, it’s not there. Just wish whomever answers the phone would not play games with customers who are actually looking to do business with them.

I hate pulling the«authentic/just like the Philippines/just like my mom’s cooking» card, but I’m going to have to do that here. This place probably has the best(by that, I mean the most authentic) Filipino food that I’ve found in Portland. Admittedly, the bar is kinda set low, but hey, it’s something. They dishes they serve are Filipino through and through, with no attempts to Westernize the menu in any way(which I thoroughly admire). They have a wide range of classic Filipino dishes and most of them are pretty solid(though admittedly not the best version of the dish I’ve ever had). All in all, I’ll stand by this place because I think it’s a good representation of solid Filipino food. My one complaint is that the serving sizes are very small(even the rice!) which Filipinos would never do. Also, their price: serving size ratio is kinda high — either charge less and serve the small amount of food you’re serving, or give us more.

I’m all for more Filipino restaurants/food carts in Portland, so when I saw the food truck with the Philippine flag painted on it, I knew I had to go. I initially ordered the fried tilapia because I was craving it. I guess something went wrong with the cooking process because the cook informed me that he screwed it up and I should pick something else. I was disappointed, but I really appreciated that he let me know because he could’ve easily served me that messed up tilapia. Anyway, I got the laing, which is braised taro leaves with coconut milk. It was really good, and it reminded me of my mom’s version. However, the reason why I’m taking off a star is because of the portions. I got a tiny portion of food, probably less than a pound. The rice was obviously flattened and spread out the on container as if to make it look like it was full, and the portion of laing I got was probably around three spoonfuls. If it was cheap, I would’ve somewhat understood, but it was $ 8(or something close to that.) Good thing I had extra rice at home or I would’ve been really hungry. And really, rice and taro leaves aren’t super expensive, so there’s really no excuse to be stingy. I am probably gonna come back because I want to try the rest of their menu, but I am hoping that they won’t be as stingy with their food this time.

For such a small cart, some big flavors emanating from an amazingly broad menu! Located across the street from the Chinese restaurant Ocean City, we came here for lunch this past Saturday. Greeted by a friendly, outgoing gal — we ordered pancit, pork lumpia and a couple different banana desserts. We decided to eat at the canopy-covered picnic table next to the cart. The gal first brought out the lumpia. Freshly made, they were delicious — and for the price — a bargain. Next up was the pancit. It was excellent — and the bits of pork belly in it played no small part in that. But what was best were the desserts. JP’s was slices of banana roasted with a just right amount of brown sugar. Perfecto! Mine was banana and jackfruit wrapped in a delicate crust toasted golden brown. The jackfruit, which is native to Southeast Asia, contributed just the right amount of sweetness and a texture balancing the banana. Yep, you guessed it, Filipino cuisine continues to be one of my favorites.

I am very hesitant as I write this review since I’m wondering why I came away from this place so utterly disappointed while everyone else that’s reviewed it has raved about the food and service. First of all I should say that I’m very familiar with filipino food, I eat it often and even prepare it at home. I was so excited to see this place and try it out. I’ve eaten at Tambayan on Foster, average, and another filipino food cart up by Mall 205, not bad, so I was looking forward to this one. The guy running the place was really nice. Explained the dishes, talked about what was good, what was fresh, went through the entire menu, really nice guy. Me and my friend ordered the sisig(on recommendation) the sinigang, some lumpia and the lechon kalawi. Prices were reasonable and we were looking forward to a great meal. To begin with, the portions were tiny, and I mean tiny. Barely enough rice to cover the bottom of the container, maybe ½ a scoop. The sinigang was about a cup and ½. The lechon was about 3 pieces and the lumpia were pencil thin. I felt like the portion size in relation to the price was not good. You need to eat two dishes to really get a meal. Now I can live with small potion sizes if the food makes up for it, but unfortunately not here. The signature dish(sisig) was in my opinion close to inedible. My entire portion was fat, not more than 5 pieces of meat in the entire portion, the rest was just diced up fat. I understand that fat is part of the dish, but this was kind of gross, the container it was in was completely soaked through by the time I got home and the bottom had fallen through because of the grease. And the parts that I did eat were not very tasty. I also tried the sinigang. It was so salty that it made your lips pucker up. I love my sinigang tangy, but this was just salt, it was so strong I couldn’t eat more than a spoonful of the broth. The lumpia were good, I’ll compliment the cook on these, they were crispy, and tasty. Look, I hate giving bad reviews, but I have to be honest and speak from my heart. I’m going to go back to Kain Tayo and give them another chance, after all everyone deserves the right to have a bad day. So, if you like this place, good for you, keep supporting them. If my next visit turns out to be an improvement I will give credit where credit is due.

Very friendly, low key, awesome Halo Halo on a super hot day, creamy delicious Leche Flan(«Plan»). Will surely be back for some of the savory stuff which based on the photos on the outside of the cart, looks like the real deal.

Wow, I see all the other Unilocalers say this is the closest to their Mother’s cooking. And I have to agree. It tasted like home. I’ve been jumping around the other Filipino food carts/restaurants around town and usually been quite disappointed. But I came out of Kain Tayo even more curious. I had the Sig Sig which is PJ’s signature dish. And went away impressed. Tried some of his Leche Flan and that tasted like home also. This is the real deal! Can’t wait till I come over next time. I wonder what to try next.

Amazing Filipino dishes!!! I’d been looking for an amazing Filipino food cart in Portland and finally it’s here. The owners are friendly and the prices are great. The style and authentic taste of the dishes prepared reminds me of my mother’s cooking. The food cart itself looks very clean and decorated fabulously with the Philippine flag(you won’t miss it). The owners are so friendly and are more than happy to give you a taste of their dishes and explain to you how it’s cooked and what’s in it.

Excellent food, superior service and exactly what I was looking for in Filipino food. The employees are extremely friendly and helpful in making suggestions to meet your needs. They serve Halo-Halo(my favorite dessert) and it’s made with all of the best ingredients including ice cream. The best I’ve had! I highly recommend checking out this authentic Filipino food cart and giving any of the menu items a try. There is a lot to choose from and you really can’t go wrong. Very clean, parking is easy and there is outdoor seating(often you can’t find that when visiting a food cart). Staff is friendly and down to earth. Definitely worth checking out! You can also find them on facebook with a full menu!
