We were on vacation when I first discovered the lice in my kid’s hair. We had 5 nights left and I googled ‘lice removal’ in central oregon but sadly there was no service of this kind. We self-treated(in an undisclosed hotel) for a night with a chemical free kit from Target called ‘little bugs’. We also diligently did laundry during our vacation and all got new hats. I then booked an appt with LICEKNOWINGYOU for the day we returned. Their ‘head check’ process was quick and easy and $ 10 per head. I found it super relaxing and secretly wished I’d had lice so that I could stay in the chair and have someone play with my hair for an hour, but that’s beside the point. Two of us still had lice(both male & had short hair). They were treated on the spot! Each receiving a ½ hour saturation of their heads and then about a ½ hour de-lousing(AKA a going thru with a lice comb to remove all lice & nits). Our total was about $ 80.(thanks to the short hair!) The LICEKNOWINGYOU30-day guarantee requires you return in 3 – 5 days for a re-check. This was easily scheduled &FREE. We had our re-check today and are all officially LICEFREE. To sum up: While on vacation we spent $ 40 on hats $ 10 on new hair supplies(rubber bands and bandanas) $ 50 on lice removal kits $ 200 on a hotel room to self-treat $ 23 on laundry and laundry detergent + hours and hours of nit picking and crying and yelling and stress But had there been a LICEKNOWINGYOU in Central Oregon we could have gone there and been treated for much less. So lets hope when you get lice, you’re in the Portland Metro Area! And the nice folks @ LICEKNOWINGYOU can help you out too.

So my kid is the lice magnet. Maybe because I can’t stand stinky kid hair and make her keep it clean? Because lice like clean hair. Fourth time in two years for my kid. Hooray for LKY! They do the treatment, the products are all natural, and guarantee the treatment if all people in the household get checked. I hope not to be back, but likely will.

I am a science teacher and it’s hard to make me cringe, but I still freaked out when one of my sons pulled a bug out of his hair. Fortunately,(and here is my disclaimer) a classmate’s mom is Janet Unitan of Lice Knowing You. So I knew who to call when the inevitable-at-some-point-at-a-large-school lice infestation hit. Janet, and everyone at LNY was 100% professional and competent. Although the tight comb is slightly uncomfortable the all-natural products smell so good it is in part like a salon experience! Okay, I am stretching it slightly, but I am so glad we didn’t mess around with drugstore products that only kill the live lice and not the egg. I even went so far as to search out prescription medication that does kill both – but it was unavailable in Portland pharmacies, expensive, and new – it just felt a little extreme. It sealed the deal when I called our pediatrician’s office and the advice nurse recommended LKY. So I called Janet. Right away, she e-mailed me a fact sheet and an instructional sheet on what to do after our family’s treatment. Most importantly, she calmed me down and helped me realize that we were not in a true emergency situation and Armageddon was not happening on our heads or in our house. It is so smart that they require the whole family to come in at one time for louse inspection and treatment. Before they send you on your merry way they take GREAT care to find even the one tiny nit that might be on an unsuspecting family member’s head and declare you all LICEFREE! There is a follow-up visit included in the cost to be sure no re-infestation occurred. It really was very easy and comforting. My kids were even in the clear to return to school immediately, and that freed me up to go home to don gloves and bag all the laundry to wash in hot water once, and to vacuum potentially infested areas like sofas and mattresses. Janet emphasized that most people overdo it with the cleaning as the little *#*#&ing buggers start to die within hours of not having a host. And the cost? I was scared, but it was surprisingly reasonable. I am positive we made the right – even most economical move considering the agony we could have gone through. IF there is a next time then nits hit, we won’t hesitate to go the LKY route again. Whatever you do – don’t wait! There were a pair of sisters in the chairs having nits and lice removed and it took way longer than my children’s because it had just gotten that bad. So I purchased a nice smelling daily spray that we mist before school in the hopes that the wonderful people at LNY will never again comb our tresses.
