Red velvet balls covered in white chocolate — oh yeah baby that’s the stuff really unique food — savory and full of flavor puttansque with meatballs and buttermilk biscuits a winner :) one of the great things about cart eating is you get all the quality, half the price, and you get to talk to the chef /owner.

WOW u really know what your doing with those balls«that’s what he said». The owner here is an amazing cook and 1 cool lady. The meat balls and the sauces are home made, and if you were lucky enough just like your momma usta make. Very unique menu that gives us a chance to enjoy meat balls in creative ways. Also gives vegans a chance to eat balls. They have breakfast options as well. Eat balls order a pair or two you will love it!

I just had lunch here. Enjoyed…OMG! I am in food coma Heaven. I just had the Vegan balls with polenta and coconut curry and apricot ginger sauces. The perfect cold weather hearty meal. So good! I loved every single bite not just because of the flavor but the mouth feel too — polenta and vegan balls just feels good on the tongue. Disliked…nothing! This is my new favorite food cart.

I noticed a flyer for Lucille’s Balls on a nearby table indicated that their focus was on the Japanese«umami» flavor. I’ve heard that umami is like a fifth flavor right along side salty, sour, sweet and bitter. However, I also know that a lot of chefs achieve«umami» by adding MSG to their dishes. I would think(hope) that Lucille’s Balls doesn’t do that, considering their emphasis on organic ingredients. My chicken over polenta, served as a meal with tossed salad was delicious(umami-flavored or otherwise). I really loved the salad dressing. It was very similar to what back in the day I would call«Catalina» dressing. The dressing was alive with a bit of spicy hot. I liked how the dressing trickled over into the polenta creating a fusion of fine flavor. The sausage meatball was very tender. Good Food Pod is getting mighty popular, positively crowded this past Friday night. I hope the video store next door plays nice and doesn’t crack down on Good Food Pod diners parking in their parking lot because pod parking is full.

Mmm, meatballs. Non-greasy beef, pork, chicken or vegan meatballs. Mmm. Salad, rice/risotto/corn biscuit, meatballs. And a million sauces to choose from. The wasabi sauce is actually spicy, and the other sauces(well, I’ve only tried 3) are tasty without being overwhelmingly sweet or salty. Just good flavor. I love this cart because it’s the best option in the pod for something on the healthier side. Also, because Lori is a delight to talk to — she loves the food she makes, and it shows.

I paid my first visit to the unfortunately named Lucille’s Balls tonight in the Good Food Here pod at 43rd and SE Belmont. When I was at the pod last week, I ate at another cart but stopped by Lucille’s on my way out to peruse the menu and was happy to discover vegan options. There are meat and gluten free options as well, which I won’t go into, because I am a gluten-loving vegan. I watched the owner dig some steaming polenta out of her crockpot and knew I had to have some, so I went back tonight. The«full meal» procedure is 1) pick your ball 2) pick your bottom(jasmine rice, polenta, corn muffin) and 3) pick your sauce(6 or 7 options to choose from, 4 are vegan). Everything is very helpfully delineated as GF or V on the menu board. Tonight I ordered the«full meal» of vegan balls(sweet potato/spinach/chickpea), on top of polenta(yum), with the non-spicy but flavorful coconut curry sauce. This meal was quite amazing. The only thing keeping me from giving a 5 star review is that the food wasn’t steaming hot, likely because there was only one person taking and filling orders and it was crowded. Glad to see her doing a brisk business!

Gluten-Free Options: Awesome! All the sauces are GF, and each part of the menu has at least one tasty GF alternative. Vegan Options: Excellent and varied. Sustainability: Most(all?) of the ingredients are locally sourced. To-go containers are of recyclable cardboard. I love these balls. They’re firm, with a good consistent texture throughout. I ordered the meal, with the gluten-free chicken sausage, polenta and apricot-ginger sauce, and savored every bite. The side salad consists of a nice lettuce mix from a local farm, and a home-made salad dressing. Since I got my order to take home, I added some raisins and olives to the mix, as I like my salad to be a little more substantial. I am, however, pretty sure that I would have liked the salad just as it was — I’m a picky bitch when it comes to salads, and can’t handle the bitterness that plagues most«mixed» leaf combos. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the salad was as divine as the woman running the cart assured me it would be: crisp, clean, and flavorful. I will definitely be returning to enjoy Lucille’s Balls again.
