Maloy’s Jewelry Workshop

Wow! This little jewelry workshop is AMAZING! I am so happy with my experience with them. I got engaged over Christmas with a ring that was far too large. I work in NW Portland and was looking for a place that was able to do same day resizing (didn’t want to part with my precious ring for too long). I stumbled across Maloy’s online, but have to admit I was a bit skeptical. However, the ladies who greeted me made me feel instantly comfortable. Everything about this shop is charming. From the little dog sitting in the shop down to the gorgeous, antique rings. They were so knowledgable and kind! I felt 100% comfortable trusting them with my ring. My experience even made me wish I would have shopped here prior to getting engaged! My fiancé and I will most definitely be buying our wedding bands from them. Special thanks to Nina, who put up with me resizing my ring TWICE ever so graciously! (I came in today an hour before closing and they still resized it for me!) I’m blown away by their customer service! Thank you, Maloy’s. You’re a true gem!

Maloy’s has been servicing my family’s antique jewelry for many years and always does a fantastic job. I recently damaged my great, great, grandmother’s wedding ring on a visit to Portland and Maloy’s fixed it, cleaned it and strengthened the band all in record time so I could make my flight back to LA. We trust them and they do a great work, hands down.

I was greeted by a wonderfully kind group, Nina helped me with everything I needed and it was such a relief because I had never been and had a unique situation. She seemed to know exactly what I wanted even when I wasn’t sure exactly what I was looking for in my price range. Very knowledgable and personable. My experience was better than I could have expected!

I took my engagement and wedding bands to Maloy’s yesterday for inspection and cleaning, and was very pleased by the service I received. I am new to Portland, so it was nerve wracking to trust someone new with my diamonds.
I was thrilled when I was told that my rings would be inspected and cleaned at no charge. Some stores charge upwards of $ 50 to do this if you didn’t originally buy the jewelry from them.
One thing that I particularly loved is that the woman who helped me explained that 2 stones on my band were lose and that she would do everything she could to repair them at no charge. She also explained that the stones became lose as a resulted of my bands not being welded together. I also learned that not welding your bands can wear the gold down on each individual band as a result of friction.
Needless to say, my rings were repaired and cleaned at no charge. I will definitely visit Maloy’s again for my next cleaning/​inspection and jewelry purchase.

I had a lovely experience at Maolys, specifically with Nina. I had been searching for a vintage wedding band and after exhausting all my options in portland finally made it into Maloys. Excellent decision! They had a huge variety of vintage bands and I fell in love with 2 rings. Nina was extremely patient with me and never rushed me. I returned multiple times to look at the rings before finally making my purchase. I LOVE my rings (I ended buying 2), I would highly recommend Maloys.

Maloy’s sized my fiancé’s engagement ring down — which we were told would be difficult to do. The ring has smooth edges with a small fine pattern and then is hammered in the center. We were nervous to even size it after having called around a few places but decided to have Maloy’s try since it was useless unless fitted… and we picked up today and had to stare and stare to finally see where the adjustment had been made. Not to mention, they took only about 2 days to get the job done — and at a reasonable price.
We will be going back to them for jewelry repair and sizing in the future and recommend you do, too! :)

My fiancée and I came here after several diappointing antique & pawn shop visits. So we had our gaurd up. However, we were pleasantly surprised when a patient and curtious lady named Jen helped us with offering a selection of antique rings. She answered our questions without rushing us and never bad-​mouthed other dealers. The rings were reasonably priced from what we’ve researched. We had time to sit privately and talk it over. Without doubts we picked our ring! We are extremely happy with our choice & experience. In less than 30 mins they sized our ring and handed us the ring certificate. Thank you Maloy’s!!!

After my finance and I got engaged, we needed to resize my ring, which was a family heirloom. I also looked into getting a new setting to mount the stone in. The store isn’t as flashy or high-​end as some other jewelery stores, but the real key is the staff and the quality of work that they do.
The staff at Maloy’s gave me their honest opinions, gave reasonable pricing, worked very quickly and answered many questions. After visiting many other ring stores that felt like you were being herded into buying the most expensive option. All of their staff were friendly, helpful, and willing to go above and beyond to help me get exactly what I wanted. Today, I just got my newly resized ring back and it looks beautiful. It’s just the right size and just in time for Christmas. They also had modern settings that they could order for you in case you want something a little more modern, but at a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend Maloy’s hands down.

I had a great experience buying an engagement ring here. The multiple staff members that I dealt with were great, the prices were reasonable (and negotiable), and there were no D-​bag pushy sales people dripping in jewels. This place was such a refreshing change of pace relative to what you find in shopping malls.
I saw a review below that complained that the staff likes to size rings on the small side. My fiancé and I were skeptical about the size that the staff recommended because it felt very tight at the time (July), but by the time winter rolled around, we were so happy that we followed their recommendation to size a bit smaller.

Our experience at Malloy’s was not initially fantastic. The woman who helped my fiancé and I resize a ring was rude, disinterested and resized and split the ring without asking us if we would like their services or quoting a price. However, the owner called us and kindly gifted the ring at no cost. The craftsmanship was lovely and he demonstrated the care, customer service and kindness we had originally hoped for.

Maloy’s is amazing! I had a ring stuck on a swollen finger and needed it cut off. After calling one jeweler who told me it would be $ 30, I called Maloy’s. I was excepting a similar price quote and was elated when they told me it would be free and to just come in and they would save me! That is exactly what did, it look under 5 minutes and the staff was incredibly nice and helpful! I will definitely be paying them back in the future!

I’ve visited this great shop twice for odd little watch repairs on totally non-​fancy watches, and they’ve been kind, helpful, and informative both times. Most recently, the desk person was super-​friendly, and the man with all the tools took a genuine interest in the repair puzzle I showed him. While he couldn’t help me, he explained how the watch was made, and gave me his best guess at something I could try myself to fix it, step by step.
By contrast, I also tried the fancy watch repair shop next door, where the two employees mumbled about my inquiry to one another, and then one guy just handed my watch back, shook his head, and started a conversation with another customer.
Visit Maloy’s any time to be treated like a real person, even if your jewelry isn’t swanky, and you don’t look like Mr. or Ms. Moneybags.

I worked with Jennifer to purchase my vintage wedding ring at Maloy’s. She was professional, friendly, and extremely patient. Even before I decided to purchase my wedding ring she offered to polish my engagement ring for no charge! A great little shop for beautiful antique jewelry (and their shop dog is adorable!).

I had a great experience today with Maloy’s and a young lady named Nina. My engagement ring had a loose center stone with a unique setting, and the other jewelers I had taken to didn’t feel comfortable working on it. I showed it to Nina who took it up stairs, and 10 minutes later, the center stone was tightened, no charge.
I had also inquired to other stores about options for keeping my ring from spinning around, as my knuckle size is larger than the actual ring finger part. The other stores told me to either put tape around it (uhhh…no), or use a ring noodle, which is also not a great solution for something I’ll wear the rest of my life. When I asked Nina about this she was extremely helpful and told me about speed bumps, an easy process of putting little metal bumps on the inside of the ring to help anchor it. Simple solution. Overall, I am really hap,.py with them and will definitely be returning for my jewelry needs.

I have emailed this establishment three times using the «contact us» tab on their website regarding a ring I was interested in and price ranges for certain pieces.
I never heard back. I guess they make so much money they don’t need mine.

My fiancé bought my ring at the shop. There is a very nice young lady there, with dark brown curly hair, who has been very helpful throughout the process. I went back to size the ring and long blonde haired lady helped me. She continued to talk down to me and make me feel insignificant.
I told her I had a 6, changed it to a 5.5 and wanted it a 5.75 because it was too small. She said she was having it done as a 6 because it would be too small.
I called at the end of the day to check on my ring and the same lady, talked down to me. Even though my ring was done I went home not even wishing to return to the store.
The only reason why I picked up the ring instead of my fiancé is because he made me try it on. It is now, again, too big. And I will NOT return. We were going to have our bands made here, but now we will not return.

I’ve heard nice thing about them, but our rough estimate in the shop for some jewelry work came to $ 300. They called the next dat to confirm the work at $ 300. When my wife went in the store to pick it up? Ka-​ching! The bill was $ 400.
If I’d been the one to pick it up, I would have refused the work and let them eat the whole thing. As it is, they «let» my wife pay the higher price. They didn’t even offer to reduce the price.
Not very classy.

I have to admit i’m surprised by the 1 star reviews by others. I have been a customer of Maloy’s for years. I refer all my friends and family there as well. I have had nothing other than a positive experience there. I have a large collection of antique-​estate jewelry and would not dream of going elsewhere for repairs and maintenance! If you are looking for «cheap», then no this is not your place, if you are looking for quality, then you found it!
BTW: If your concerned with finding the right person to help you, ask for Julie, she has excellent customer service skills, and is delightful to work with!

I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, but if I were to, I’d shop at Maloy’s. While they have absolutely gorgeous pieces, my review is actually about their repair services.
I accidentally pulled my friend’s chain off his neck (some vodka shots may or may not have been involved) and felt absolutely horrible, so I wanted to get it fixed right away. This was a white gold chain with a cross that he had been wearing since he was young, so it was important to me to have it done right, and have it done quickly.
After several phone calls and a couple visits to other jewelers around town I was frustrated that most places would take up to 2 weeks, and the ones who could fix it right away wanted too much money. One call to Maloy’s solved my problem.
I called them around 4:40, they close at 5:30. The price they quoted me was great and they said they could try to get it in that day, or first thing in the morning. I screeched downtown, parked and ran in. The woman helping me was so incredibly nice I wanted to hug her or sit down for a cup of coffee together. I asked about the possibility of having it fixed right then, she checked, and said yes, give them 15 minutes. I was overjoyed!
15 minutes later I returned to find it as good as new. I was a few minutes early so she insisted I try on some jewelry just for fun. She said, who doesn’t like playing a little dress up with jewelry? I couldn’t resist :)
Next time I want to buy a piece of jewelry I will definitely check Maloy’s first. And while I’ve learned my lesson about drinking and pulling people’s chains off their necks, if it ever does happen again this will be my one and only stop to fix it. They are my heroes!
