Mario’s

This place is too cool for school.
It’s definitely not the kind of place you’d go to find something stylish + a good deal (for that, go to my love Nordstrom Rack), but more the place you’d go for top-​of-​the-​line, imported, super luxe, and possibly over-​the-​top splurge.
Which is not a bad thing. And once in a while totally suitable. I came here looking for a men’s gift, and Mario’s has so much to offer. If you’re willing to spend some $ you’ll have lots to look at.
I ended up with some beautiful cufflinks that I took to get engraved. Definitely worth it.

Pro: The building is beautiful, and Mario’s seems to have a good reputation in Portland, OR. Customer service upstairs was pretty good. Harmony from Mario’s was accommodating and professional.
Con: I was very disappointed that the buying is for a very specific demographic; wealthy, and likely the 45 and up that never leave Portland (Or if they do, they stay in their hotel). A shame for us that live in the 25 – 35 age range that seek high quality clothing, and more curation than just your safe Vince-​type brands. I was also disappointed to see 7 of All Mankind, kind of cheesy, no? The only coat offerings were wide puffer coats; hardly flattering for someone that appreciates style. If I come again, I hope the buyers/​owner takes a little advice and evolve a bit.

I’ve always loved Mario’s and when I was married, I would shop there for my husband. As a single woman who’s son is getting married soon, we were on the hunt for a designer suit with the new, skinny pant leg, something along the lines of Prada or Hugo Boss. Our sales person, Brian Hathaway, was not only incredibly professional and educated on the newer styles, he was an absolute pleasure to work with. Not only was he great with me, I really appreciated his conversations with Seth and how he discussed in detail the look he wanted on his wedding day. Nice to know Mario’s still has amazing sales people working for them and can’t say enough about Brian!

This is my favorite store to shop at in Portland. They carry a variety of styles and luxury brands. The store is extremely neat and the staff is very friendly and offer great fashion advice.
I want to point out one sales associate in particular… Sam Thomas. My wife and I can’t say enough about his customer service!!! He is simply AMAZING! He suited me up and picked out clothes that fits me perfectly and looks very good. I’m not really a shopaholic, in fact, I find shopping a little annoying, but in the past 2.5 weeks I have already been to Mario’s twice and I drove all the way from Seattle just to see Sam!
So if you are ever in Portland, go to Mario’s go see Sam, and walk out the store looking AND feeling fantastic!!!

For portland Oregon let’s just say this is the best clothing store. this store is not for the faint of heart it does cost. but you get what you pay for. exceptional quality clothing.

Walked in just by chance, met Sue and an hour later (and a glass of wine), I came out with some of the best jeans, shirts and gifts I have ever purchased. Everything is displayed great, service is amazing, not pushy– informative. I wasn’t dressed for shopping when I walked in, as we had just been to the movies down the street. I’m hooked!

Have been here many times with my beau over the years. Great men’s selection. Prada sneakers, sunglasses, fleece and coat all purchased here and much more. Some from 5 years ago still in good condition being worn to this day. Not snobby which is nice even if we don’t always dress to impress when we go there as it has sometimes been on a whim as we are in the area. I don’t feel uncomfortable there and feel that I can just walk around and look.

I am definitely a die-​hard Nordstrom shopper, but I do enjoy going to Mario’s for a change of pace. Staff is always friendly and helpful without being annoying. There are some fun brands here that Nordstrom doesn’t carry. My only complaint is that the return policy is a bit draconian, but I think Nordstrom has definitely spoiled consumers. Mario’s is more of a boutique, so I get that it can’t necessarily be as generous as Nordstrom. I’ve never had to return anything here, mainly because I’m very careful about my purchases.

Always so on point. Great location. Ray Frazier, along with the rest of the associates, is always of great help. Classic styles, along with some contemporary pieces. Highest quality.

Wanted to thank Ray Frazier for helping me out big time today! I fly out tomorrow morning for my wedding and Ray was able to help me out on extremely short notice with a suit problem that I had. Very high end place with absolutely no hint of a snobby attitude! Thanks, Ray!!!

My husband and I made a trip into Mario’s to get outfitted for our friend’s wedding.
The good: my husband had fantastic service and attention with his sales person, Ray Frazier. He put together a gorgeous ensemble for my husband… pants, sports coat, shoes, pocket square, shirt & belt.
The bad: I made my way upstairs to get get help with my outfit. I walked around for 10 minutes, without a single person acknowledging me. I was completely ignored. When I finally found a few dresses to try on, I couldn’t find anyone to let me into a fitting room. After approaching a sales girl (who was on her phone), I was let into a fitting room and ignored again. No one came back to assist me, ask how I was doing or to provide me with appropriate shoes to try on with the dresses. I finally just walked out:/
It is a shame. We had been looking forward to this shopping trip for awhile. My husband will be back, but I’ll never set foot in there again!

Want to feel like your a rat? Walk in without wearing $ 500 jeans. If you are slightly over weight they want zero to do with you. The stuck up girl made me feel like 2 cents shopping there. It’s not the $ 50 sox there that bothers me, it’s the attitude.

Their heads have gotten way too big. I used to enjoy shopping here when it was at their old location (long time ago). Service at this location and in Seattle has been terrible. Unless you are in the «Mario’s Club» of regulars, they want nothing to do with you. I have added this shop to my boycott list and will not be back.

I’m a poor college student who likes to splurge on pieces here and there. This particular day I went to buy a non-​clip on black bow tie for my boyfriend. I was practicing tying it on myself so I would be able to tie it on my boyfriend later. :) Mr. Mario himself came up to me and said, «Hey! That’s pretty good!» Having only seen him in the Mario’s catalogue I was so excited and a tiny bit star struck, I said, «You’re Mario!!» LOL I was so embarrassed but he was so gracious and made me feel fabulous! :) I ended up purchasing a very soft, black Lanvin tie that my boyfriend really loves.

As I walked into Mario’s, I was greeted by Brian Hathaway. This guy is amazing, it was pretty hot out, and he offered my wife and I a glass of sparkling water, even offered to hold my shopping bags in the back so I can shop unrestricted. I was looking for a nice leather jacket with shearing, unfortunately, they didn’t carry any this season. Brian let me try on all the different leather jackets that they had to offer.
When I go shopping (especially at a high end boutique), I expect awesome service and Brian at Mario’s have certainly exceeded my expectations.
It does kindof suck now that when I go shopping, I will be expecting every store to have Mario’s level of expertize and professionalism. I even received a follow up email after my purchase. You got a customer for life. Thanks for one of the best shopping experience of my life.

Mario’s is awesome! When I earn over 6 figures, it will be even more awesome. I just bought a pair of Anne Sachs reading glasses for $ 85. I think I’m so cool, now. I hope my wife is not reading this, but, the brunette upstairs is «super hot». I’m a pig, but with some really cool eyeglasses. Maybe if my fantasies come true and I can write gag lines for David Letterman, (or Dr. Oz), then with the money pouring in, I can shop with gusto at Mario’s. Ciao.

Mario’s, you’ve got swank and you’ve got plenty of style. If only I had plenty of cash.
Growing up with an Italian last name I’ve always been in love with the gorgeous names of «my people» and this is in part where my love affair begins for Mario’s. The Italian designers featured in here have names to swoop you off your feet and the selection of fabrics to make even the softest clothes in your closet to feel like burlap.
If you’re looking for a show stopping cocktail dress go upstairs and fall in love with everything up there. I know I did. Also, their men’s eyeglass frames are amazing. Skip the silly imitation stuff and just throw down the cash. I know that’ll be next on the vacation trip.

My first time visiting Mario’s as I heard they carry Etro, and I was looking for a specific blazer I’d seen on the East Coast earlier in the week.
Wow. talk about a bad first impression. I walked in when they were having some celebration with most folks walking around sipping wine. It seems the staff was more focused on their own personal enjoyment than providing service.
I milled around for a while looking through the racks, and turned to capture a salesperson’s attention on 2 occasions, but they were too focused on themselves to care. In fact, they seemed to prefer talking among themselves to supporting customers they didn’t already know. Definitely an odd culture that’s developed in this shop.
Seems like a good selection of some brands I like, but I’m aghast at the dismal customer service, especially when one would be there with the intent of spending significant dollars.
I won’t likely be back.

Mario’s curates fashion for the body and home at a taste level among Barney’s and Bergdorf Goodman. You’ll find some fashion chances here, as well as an interesting selection of some famous brands. It’s one of my destinations whenever I’m in Seattle or Portland (especially Portland — no sales tax!).
I’ve never had a challenge with the staff the way some reviewers in both cities have mentioned. In fact, most are very informed and happy to chat about tailoring, fashion, lines and fitting. Every time I come to Marios I dream that I’ll win the lotto and shop here regularly!
Prices are high. You can’t dock points, IMO, for $ 300 jeans here. that’s cost of entry. Marios isn’t for Maxxinistas. It’s for serious fashion folk.

How do I love thee Mario’s? Well, you’re a strong point in the «move to Portland» column.
I’m from Sacramento but travel to Portland occasionally for business, and I make a beeline for Mario’s shoe department. Champagne while I shop? Why yes, thank you! Fabulous designer shoes and great sales on those shoes (especially around early December)? Well Merry Christmas to me from «Santa.» The friendliest shoe salesman ever who calls me about presale and will email me pictures of the shoes (since I’m not usually in the Portland area to come in and take a looksie)? Amazing service.
I knew this place was special because it’s based on relationships that the sales associates develop with their clientele. It’s like how Saks service used to be back in the day before it went so corporate.
I love this shop and my long-​distance relationship with the salespeople there. I always look forward to the Mario’s catalogue, and I must say, their buyer has flawless taste because even though it’s smaller than some department stores, they seem to pick the best of the best every season.
