Merae’s On 42nd Hair Salon

My family’s experience here was one of the highlights of our trip. My cousin recently got married and our family traveled to enjoy the festivities. Even before we arrived, Marie was helpful with all the arrangements. The day of the wedding, my aunt and I got our hair done. By the time we all left we looked great and felt like we had made a new friend. The weather was a little shocking to our skin and hair since it was far drier than the humid conditions we are used to. My hair was dry when I arrived but after my visit to Merae’s it felt hydrated again. So glad we were referred to this place. It is a gem.

I’ve been going to see Marie for over a year now and I have to say, I trust her completely. I have never had so many compliments on my hair since I’ve started going to her salon. I highly recommend going into Merae’s. You will not be disappointed.

I’m African American with dry, fragile and sensitive hair/​scalp. Of the handful of salons familiar with black hair in portland, most are mediocre at best. Since moving here from Pittsburgh a few years ago I’ve had a hard time finding a new stylist I can trust and actually help me take care of my hair and not just do it. Marie is very educated about hair care and how to tend to my hair’s needs. She’s helps me keep it moisturized with advised vitamins and scarves, and promotes healthy growth by great trims/​cuts. She is professional and polite. While you’d be able to find significantly cheaper places nearby I truly believe you get what you pay for in terms of the salons here. Highly recommend this place.

I moved to Oregon from Florida where I have a million and one places to go with people knowledgeable about how to take care of my thick puerto rican/​black hair. Upon moving to Oregon I first moved to Eugene where no one that I encountered knew anything about my hair and their facial expressions indicated that they had no idea how to do anything with my hair. Before I even moved to Portland I came up from Eugene to go to Merae’s where Marie & team actually KNOW what they’re doing and give me a sense of home. I have been going there every week for almost a month now because Marie has miraculously saved my hair, which even I didn’t think could be done considering how damaged and broken it was. But now, it’s healthy and growing very fast and luxurious. The environment is warm and welcoming and luckily it’s not focused on any one type of person, the staff there can tend to any one and do nothing short of an excellent job that leaves you knowing that you made a wise decision with who is handling your hair. I highly recommend this business as I know any one that goes here will leave satisfied.
