This was our first time to Mississippi and we went to Miss Deltas for barbeque. We were not disappointed! In fact, the food was amazing and our server Johnny made dinner more than a meal, he made it an experience. If you want authentic southern Barbeque and exceptional service, you have to try Miss Delta’s!

I’ve been here about 5 times. I love their crinkle cut yam fries and fried okra. the rest of their food is alright but as a fellow server I have to say that staff are like deplorably rude and un-attentive and I’ve waited hours for food so it’s also clear they struggle a lot with running a line and getting food out. I can’t really deal w going back. Russell St BBQ or screen door has sweetheart servers and food that is just as good and not a 2 hour wait for food once you’ve ordered. Do I sound bitter? It’s prob cuz I am. I always tip 20% and I’m sweet to staff because I know what it’s like but honestly when I’m trying to eat some BBQ I want to be treated nicely and get my food in a reasonable amount of time. BOOP

Before I start this review, I must say I’ve tried Miss Delta’s THREE times and it definitely stuck out. This is probably one of the more disappointing restaurants in the Portland circuit(in my opinion), which is rather surprising because of its popularity. The first two times I went to the establishment I admired the décor. Despite its small stature Miss Delta’s doesn’t feel cramped at all. In fact the way the place is setup you could have an intimate conversation and not worry about the table next to you overhearing. The menu isn’t overwhelming so ordering is a breeze. However, the food is disappointing and the service is subpar. I don’t know what the deal is with the servers but they have a funny way of making you feel… Unwelcome. ESPECIALLY the third time. My partner and I came in fairly late in the evening and decided to try our luck sitting at the bar. For starters it took about five minutes before our presence was even acknowledged and it just went downhill from there. My parter was in the mood for something other than his standard shot of tequila and the only tequila based drink they had on the menu was a margarita. He decided to ask the«bartender» for a recommendation and her response was, «I really don’t care. It’s all the same to me.» My jaw literally dropped to the floor. I cooly replied, «but as a bartender isn’t it kinda your job to recommend drinks? Especially if a patron is asking.» From the look on her face I could tell she didn’t appreciate my comment and yet still failed to recommend anything. The food just made the night worse. My partner ordered the brisket which was dry and flavourles. The greens had way too much vinegar. The star his meal was the stewed tomatoes and okra and even that was subpar. I had the blackened catfish, which was decent. The flavorless red beans and rice. The star of the show was the Mac and Cheese, which was marginal at best. When it came time to pay my partner said — and I quote, «I’m going to pay cash, I don’t even want this place to show up on my statement.» All in all, That last trip completely turned me off. I won’t be back. .

Two words: Not. impressed. Coming from a girl who LOVES her BBQ, Miss Delta’s meats sure could use a little bit more flavor! Don’t be afraid to use some seasoning chefs! Now don’t get me wrong, the atmosphere here is wonderful. Friendly staff, funky southern rustic vibe. i’m all for that! However, if you claim to be a Southern Cajun soul food restaurant. season ya’ meats! As a southern born child, my taste buds did not taste an ounce of soul in the food here. I missed the Cajun, and I definitely missed the soul. I will say though that the sweet tea is delicious and is bound to give you diabetes if you drink enough of it. The side dishes(Mac & Cheese, Coleslaw) also weren’t so bad, but meh. I’ve experienced better.

I’m addicted to this place — it’s good anytime of day, but brunch is where they shine. Their biscuit egg sandwiches come with a whole piece of fried chicken and smothered in gravy — it’s a heart attack on a plate but at least you’ll die smiling. The appetizers are yummy and always changing(I’m a big fan of the fried pickles), and the southern soul food classics have never disappointed. My faves are the pulled pork, fried shrimp po’ boy, gumbo, and trashy mac. They serve their drinks in HUGE mason jars, and the Arnold Palmer is the best I’ve had. The staff is always friendly and on point — keep doing what you’re dong, guys!

While looking for somewhere close that had banana pudding I stumbled upon Miss Delta. We had noticed the restaurant while perusing Mississippi. I had never had chicken and waffles before, so I decided to give it at try at Miss Delta. I was not the least bit disappointed. Their chicken & waffles have set the bar for the dish. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken stack and the portion size is ridiculous. These are truly southern portions. I am from Tennessee and gravy is a staple. This is the best gravy I have had in Portland thus far. I cannot wait to visit again and try some of the dishes.

Cons: — stuck next to screeching hipsters who couldn’t be any louder if they tried — extraordinarily slow. It took nearly an hour to get food. — pulled pork was not pulled. It was a bunch of large pieces of pork that required a knife, dumped on top of a slurry of what appeared to be wet fat — inattentive, disinterested staff. The waitress we had was okay but nothing special. One of the employees spent nearly the entire time leaned up against the counter sipping a drink of some sort and occasionally messing around with her phone. — what’s up with charging extra for sauce? Not that it matters since we never saw the waitress after getting our food. Pros: — cheese grits were really tasty but seriously, how hard is to make grits and dump some cheese on top? Takes five minutes at home and tastes exactly the same. I guess I really only have one pro. Obviously I won’t be going back.

Drinks are good and the food is tasty New Orleans and Southern fare. Portions are pretty large, be prepared for a possible take home container. I’ve been here multiple times and never been disappointed with the food or service. Servers have been friendly and attentive and the atmosphere with exposed brick walls and southern rustic charm are nice and comfortable. I enjoyed their brunch selections and would recommend going for brunch or early evening dinner to avoid a long wait. The Caesar salad I had during brunch was large, chopped up nicely, and very garlicky. I loved it! The griddle cakes are cinnamon and nutmeg spiced and just the right amount of soft and crunchy.

This place is amazing. I stopped in for my first time and was definitely not disappointed! They do something with their meat there that makes the bacon to die for! Justin the server was so friendly and knowledgeable about the menu I felt very comfortable going with his suggestions and everything was great! Not only was the food good, the drinks were super tasty, the music was awesome and the place has a very chill vibe. I will definitely be going back to miss delta in the future!

Stopped in for lunch today at Miss Delta with a friend, the place was virtually empty, no seating host/hostess in sight so we sat down at a table for four in the back. A waitstaff person finally appeared and upon learning that there were only two of us for lunch, informed us that we’d have to move to a different table, «restaurant policy.» Hmmmmm. Interesting definition of customer service and welcoming paying customers… We left. Won’t be back.

Having only visited for a few days, I don’t really know what the Southern food scene is like in Portland, but for two hungry Southern girls looking to satisfy a craving for perfectly fried food, Miss Delta delivered. Located among a row of cute shops, bars, restaurants on Mississippi, Miss Delta wins automatic points for location. They get more love from me for having a happy hour menu and for offering a pretty good variety of comfort food. I ordered a plate of chicken and waffles, and my friend ordered a plate of chicken fried steak with sides of mac and cheese(obvi) and mashers for us to share. We were both pleased enough with our main courses(I don’t have high standards for good comfort food), but I think the star of the show was mac and cheese. Keep in mind, my opinion could be discounted by the fact that I am SO obsessed with mac and cheese(have you heard G.W.O.V. «Mac ‘n Cheese»? Basically my anthem), but I actually believe it’s difficult to do mac and cheese right, but Miss Delta keeps it simple and does it well. I would not judge you if you had several orders of mac and cheese for your main dish. In fact, I would probably give you a pat on the back and then pull out a fork to join you.

Went for brunch and the food was just good overall. I had the Delta Griddle Cakes with a side of cheese grits. The griddle cakes were fantastic, made with cinnamon and nutmeg. The cheese grits were just okay(good consistency but very bland so adding some pepper really helped). Friends had the chicken and waffles and jambalaya and were both really happy with their meal. I tried the cornbread, and while flavorful, it was too dry for my taste. Unlike many other reviews, our service was incredibly friendly, but sadly it’s also why they lost 2 stars in my review. While ordering, our waiter told us that everything is good but that the brisket and ribs are not as good as local competitors’… really? Why would you openly admit that without us even inquiring about them? He said their fried chicken and pulled pork were much better. So, even though we did not try the ribs or brisket to verify his claim, it seems you should avoid two staples of southern soul food at this southern soul food establishment.

4 of us went here on Sunday dying for some chicken and waffles and what a treat! Delicious! Cheap! Clean! Friendly! I ordered baby back ribs to go. I don’t remember the name of the drink I ordered but it was spicy, salty and delicious! Definitely will return and more friends!

Hmm, this place was really pretty good. The food was tasty but I don’t think I would come back. You can only eat artery clogging, give you a heart attack at the table food only so often. That was really all that was available on the menu. I got the brisket sandwich and it was pretty dang good! My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles and he was in heaven! It’s worth a try at least once :)

The food here at Miss Delta is what brings me back every time. The pulled pork plate($ 14) is my favorite which includes two hearty sides. The pulled pork is very tender & juicy. The side of BBQ sauce tastes great with the pork but one might think it’s spicy. The two sides you should consider are the collard greens & mac ‘n’ cheese. I love collard greens & the way Miss Delta cooks up theirs reminds me why I love them so much. The cheese on the mac is thick & gooey but mild in flavor. I did try a bite of cheese grits but the texture of it didn’t appeal to me; think hot oatmeal but with cheese. Miss Delta is great for groups but at the same time nice for a romantic dinner. The drinks are spot on & so is the service. This is my favorite place for southern food & hopefully you’ll feel the same way once you try it.
