Montessori Children’s House

Wonderful school. Beautiful environment and wonderful staff that speaks so calmly and respectfully to the children. If you’re thinking of this still simply ask to observe so you can see it all for yourself. You’ll see the autonomy in the classrooms with a beautifully designed environment to fulfill each of the children’s need.
As far as the review about the walk in the cold. What most people don’t know is that children need to be outside once a day for their psychological and developmental needs. (which is why children in Russia go play in temperatures a lot more cold than ours). I get the worry of no hats and gloves. But as a fellow trained teacher it’s important for others to remember, you can ask a parent over and over to bring their child a hat and warmer coat and they forget or just don’t make it a priority. And you still have to bring those other children out. Personally I would have extras available. But if the only complaint at this school is walking children outside on a cold day without a hat (to respect their need of fresh air and daily gross motor exercise) then that’s not bad at all.
The education itself seems incredibly as I spend many hours observing the teachers in the classrooms.

I hope to share with other parents the level of quality, skilled and professional people we have found at MCH. After reading, observing, meeting with the staff and inquiring existing parents about this school and several others, we decided this might be a great environment for our son. We have been proven correct at every turn.
The consistency and systems in place provide such a stable predictable environment in which children thrive. Our son is 2.5 yrs old and his interpersonal communication with his peers and his attention span/​ability to focus have grown so much since starting in this environment.
We seriously can’t say enough good things about this school without sounding biased. We were nervous about the potential traffic and hesitant because we thought we wanted more of a traditional playground and outdoor space. We are happy to see that they do play outside often and even when it’s cold or raining. The traffic isn’t too bad and because they actually come to your car to take the child in, parking and drop off are smooth.
The independence (potty training!), skills and patience that children gain have been such a joy to witness. We are so grateful for this school and hope you find a good fit for your child wherever that may be.

My daughter has been attending MCH since just before her 3^rd birthday and is in her final year before transitioning to public elementary school. MCH has more than exceeded our expectations. She has flourished and really loves going to school. It is very apparent from day 1 that everyone involved in running the school and guiding the kids is very invested in and cares about each individual child and their success. I wish they had an infant program so my youngest could attend before 15 months! :)

Our child attended MCH for 2 years and we absolutely loved it. He was challenged & stimulated and progressed beyond the peers he joined in his new school. This is a well run school with great communication, great administration and outstanding teachers (guides). We could not have been more pleased with our experience. If your personal philosophy aligns with the Montessori philosophy this school is the place for you and your child! We are continually amazed at how our child learned to communicate his needs, learn new things (& work through frustration), take care of his basic needs (dressing, cleaning up, etc) and care for the other people in his classroom community. On top of all of that, they foster a community of parents that is built on acceptance and encourage getting together outside of school functions to further build the community. Overall, our experience was wonderful!

I had a friend ask whether my son’s Montessori school has online reviews and I was surprised it does not yet have them on Unilocal!SO I’m writing to assure any parent that this school is amazing. First, know that it is a school and not just a daycare (they have kids 15 months to 6 years old. Your child really learns so much in so many ways. In addition to letters, numbers, and the traditional things that children learn between the ages of 2 – 6, my child has also learned how to respect others, speak up for himself, appreciate art and nature, and solve problems. This review is based not only on experience but on the weeks and weeks of research when I was looking to move my then-​three-​year-​old out of «daycare» — as it was clear that while he was having fun playing with toys, there was zero effort being made to teach him anything new. I’m far from an anxious parent about education but it was clear even to my relaxed view that my child would soon be behind his one-​day kindergarten classmates if he at least didn’t get some basics. Input from other parents, friends with careers in early childhood education and a lot of interviews and meetings with different schools rounded out the choice and MCH came ahead in so many ways:
— Montessori excellence. I frankly didn’t know much about Montessori but have since learned how helpful it is to children. The staff here have years of experience and are a great resource in helping us learn more about how our child learns.
— Access to nature/​variety of activities: With a location on the south waterfront, I was worried this spot would be too urban, but a community garden and twice daily outdoor playtime provides a great balance to the well structured indoor facilities.
— Convenience! It wasn’t the highest on the list but I have to say how much we love the many things designed to keep things efficient: The morning drop off (Literally — you just drive up and they take your child for you), as well as the hours that go until 5:30 pm, the conferences that keep you up to speed on progress/​behavior, etc., and discounts for things like early payment or referrals. The management is really thoughtful about how they work with parents.
I could go on and on — but just know it’s very much worth a tour and a conversation if you are looking for that step after daycare into something that will really help shape how you AND your child think about their development.
