Mudra Massage

For a few months my fiancé has been seeing Meghan French for massage. He bought me a gift certificate to go see her this weekend and it was worth a review. The appointment was on time and began with a discussion around my needs, how my body felt, how my mind felt and what I was hoping to get our of the massage.
We settled on relieving stress from my back muscles and working through some hip pain I’ve been having. She must have spent an hour on my back alone with her feet, her hands, variations of her hitting her legs to make a vibrating massage… it was absolutely incredible.
There were times that she found spots in my back I didn’t know existed and she was awesome and educated me about what those were and how the buildup or tightness was related to my day to day we talked about in the beginning of our meeting.
When she moved to my hip, which I’ve had a lot of pain in, she was very conscious of how I was reacting to the movements and took everything very slow and intentional. I was actually nervous to try working that out but with my fiancés recommendation I went with it and I feel so so good now.
I left that appointment feeling so absolutely relaxed and at peace, I can’t imagine going another 4 months without another massage.

I am a recruit in a competitive fire academy and my body has been taking a real beating. An amazing friend of mine listened to me complain about how sore and stressed i have been for the last couple months and she bought me a gift certificate for 90 minutes of massage at Mudra. I was initially skeptical of the value (it wasn’t cheap) and feeling kind of guilty for receiving such an expensive gift but after 10 minutes on the table: my mind was blown. This wasn’t just a massage it was cathartic stress relief like i had never experienced– I could honestly feel the stress leaving my body. I was a little wobbly afterwards because all the tension and stress that had been keeping me in a tight little ball was just gone. Just a beautiful experience– hands down the best massage I ever had in a very classy studio with a friendly and down-​to-​earth staff. If you are thinking about checking this place out, do yourself a favor and go.

Went to Mudra at the recommendation of a friend for my first Ashiatsu type massage. What a great experience it was. After 90 minutes I was not sure I could walk out of the place being so relaxed. Mudra is a very pleasant place with really nice and helpful people. I’ve since gone back for another and the experience was just as rewarding in all respects. Purchased my wife a series of massages for Christmas.

I don’t like massages probably because I’ve never had a good one. I can’t say that about Mudra. I was reluctant to try yet another place, but Mudra Massage has definitely won me over. I’ve been there twice and have received nothing but welcoming, friendly service from ALL their employees from the moment I walked in the door. Meghan was my massage therapist and she was great. Both times I was there, she took extra time to work on a very tricky muscle in my back. I will definitely be back!

I received a gift certificate for Mudra Massage from a coworker after working her holiday shift at work. In desperate need of a GOOD massage (i.e. not one of those economy massages at the mall), I made my appointment easily and quickly, set for two days after my phone call. I had to play phone tag a bit to catch someone, because I had questions that couldn’t be answered by the online reservation system. But they willingly and courteously played tag until we reached each other.
I have literally had hundreds of massages in my life to help me manage pain and stress, and was simultaneously worried and excited about this new experience. It was incredible! Meghan French is absolutely amazing, highly skilled, and very professional. Her massage was definitely at the top of my list of hundreds!
The space itself is comfortable, clean, and smells good (which is hugely important to me — too many massage places have that mildew smell, even when it’s covered up by essential oils). The other staff I interacted with were very courteous and helpful, and all possessed a professional and serene quality rare to find in healing spaces.
There is no detail, from the complimentary teas, flavored waters, and candies, to the ambiance, that they missed.
I noticed that at least one other reviewer commented on Mudra’s prices. While they SEEM to be on the pricier side, from a quick glance at prices, you do pay for what you get. The discount massage places don’t often have heated tables, heated oils, teas and candies, or totally private spaces. I’ve often paid $ 90 for an hour and a half, and have OFTEN been disappointed by the service at other places. And I’ve noticed that when I book with the same people, that often the effort of a 90 minute massage, matches the effort of a 60 minute massage. Meghan made every minute count! So the extra $ 35 for the ASSURANCE you’re going to get a GREAT massage, as well as the things that cost the business more money (like heated tables and warm oil, teas, candies, and private spaces) is well worth the extra $$$.
Mudra and Meghan won’t let you down!

I had my massage with David and he was AMAZING! I am very picky about massage and have had probably over 200 massages in my life time of 50 years. I have had issues with my neck for quite sometime due to injuries with sports etc… I can’t say enough about how much better my neck felt after his massage! And the reason this was my first time at Mudra is because i just moved here a few months ago and didn’t know where to go for a good massage. Now i do. I will be a regular from here on out!!! I loved the massage I got today from Brittany. She was able to make all my back pain go away and I would definitely come back. If you have never tried ashiatsu, I would highly recommend it!

I dislike submitting negative reviews, but this is the second poor experience I’ve had with Mudra, and I think other clients should be aware and know there are other businesses that don’t behave this way.
I have attempted to book appointments for floating and massage at Mudra twice. My first poor experience was when asking questions regarding floating, and a male employee on the phone was very taciturn about explaining what I should expect my experience to be like. At one point I heard him place the phone to the side and say, ‘Oh my god, seriously?’. Needless to say, I made my way elsewhere and had a great experience at Float On down on Hawthorne.
My latest and last poor experience was with Megan, another front desk person. I called to inquire if they had any same day massage appointments available as I hear good things about their work, and she started laughing. When you tell a customer who’s never been there before how difficult it is to get an appointment, how they’re booked up days to a week in advance, and finish with another laugh, I am not interested.
I called Zama Massage a few blocks down and while they were also not able to get me in for a same day appointment, their front desk staff was incredibly kind, recommended another spa, and offered additional days that would work with my schedule.
A spa takes more than great massage therapists to work. The attitude of multiple staff members towards my inexperience with how ‘popular’ and ‘hard to get an appointment with’ Mudra is left a sour taste.

I was blown away by the whole experience — every inch of every room was beautifully decorated and perfectly clean. The tea bar is fantastic, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and the oranges and chocolate were delicious!
The float tank area and shower is very private and clean and there are so many amenities provided for you, including earplugs, towels, a robe, and really cute flip-​flops (not just cheap plastic, actually nice sandals)!
You could tell they were really focused on giving you a peaceful, relaxing experience from start to finish, and it really shows in the details (dimming lights that you control, gentle music when float time is over, and a peaceful lobby with beautiful amenities).
The massage was the BEST I’ve ever had in my life! She asked me more in-​depth questions than I’m used to, you could tell she was working toward a very tailored experience, and it paid off! the room is gorgeous, you pick which aroma-​therapy you want, and there are a variety of massage experiences to choose from, and they are great with helping you decide which would be most beneficial for you.
I can’t speak highly enough of this whole experience, I will never go to another spa in Portland! this is the one!

Just got back from an incredible massage at Mudra. Jillian Ingoglia (Jill) treated me like a queen and suited my massage to fit my specific physical and emotional needs and comfort level. I had never experienced Ashiatsu massage before and it was wonderful. Jill integrated Ashiatsu techniques with deep tissue massage and a range of other approaches to achieve the goals we set for my massage before the appointment. The spa is beautiful, peaceful, quiet, and spacious. Everyone I interacted with, from the receptionist to my masseuse was kind, generous, and professional. I will definitely be returning and also plan to gift some massages to family members and friends so they can experience Mudra too!

I’ve been going to the Mudra Massage here for several years. The staff are very friendly and great at what they do! I am always in and out within 5 – 10 minutes. Seriously! They get the job done quickly which really minimizes the pain. The prices are really affordable, especially if you get one of the package deals. I will keep coming back because it’s easily the fastest, cheapest, and most pain-​free messaging experience I’ve ever had.

I’ve been going to Mudra for deep tissue massages for about a year now. I don’t get massages to «relax». I work hard in and out of the gym, and I need massages to break apart adhesions so I don’t get injured.
They are always professional and do what I need them to do.
They are also expensive, but you pay for what you get. I wish they had packages of 10+ massages with discounts available.

I am amazed with my incredible Ashiatsu massage. I’d never experienced that style of massage before, but I will definitely be requesting it again. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially to those looking for a deep tissue massage. (And bonus: the respiratory aromatherapy eased the asthma symptoms I was experiencing today.)

I feel so fortunate to have discovered this gem! The Mudra staff have been congenial and accommodating each time I’ve visited. Relaxation begins as soon as you walk in the door. A friendly face will guide you to a comfortable waiting area where you’ll have access to water, vitamins, and a restroom. You’ll also be provided a selection of essential oils to choose from for your massage therapy session. Before your massage begins, there will be a dialogue with your therapist regarding the direction you’d like to take the massage.
While I’m quite confident in all of the Mudra massage staff, I’ve only experienced one of their therapists, Jillian. She’s been so incredible, I’ve found it difficult to try any new therapists! Not only is she gifted in massage, she is also just a wonderful human being. It is impossible to have anything other than an amazing experience when working with Jillian. I highly recommend giving her a try. A one hour ashiatsu massage session will run you just $ 85, but I’m here to tell you… the experience with Jillian is worth so much more.

Mudra is the gold standard for massage! I grew up in Portland and am back regularly to visit family. The minute I’ve got my flight booked, I always make sure to factor in my massage as well. I generally book a fusion session with Kirsten or with Erika, depending on how their schedules mesh with mine. Both are wonderful, as, I’m sure, are the other therapists available. Each is very good at sussing out which spots need special focus, and sensing how much pressure is needed. I was a little wary of shiatsu at first, but find the feet give so much additional strength without being painful or pokey, and always a sense of bliss by the end. Bonus points for easy online scheduling!

I was lucky to get a last minute appointment for a massage with the lovely Erin. Upon entering it was all warm and friendly from the receptionist to the space. I was offered water, tea, chocolates, tangerines. Nice reception!
Erin talked to me for a while about all my aches and pains and with her 14 years of knowledge was able to get right to the nugget of the problems on my neck and upper back and shoulders. Sooooo goood! Deep but not so much I had to wince and do lamaze breathing the whole time.
They specialize in Ashiatsu massage and Erin did mention and suggest I try some. I left it to her to use it when applicable. I don’t think she did get on the bars on the ceiling and knead my back with her feet but honestly I wouldn’t have been able to tell. I was in relaxed bliss.
I wish I lived here then I could make Erin my massage homegirl.

My partner and I are still dreaming about our experience at Mudra Massage a few days ago.
He floated for the first time and loved the experience. He already can’t wait to do it again. The float + massage is a great deal. He was surprised to love the ashiatsu massage. He had wrinkled his nose about it just the day before.
I had a 90 minute massage with Brittany — also my first ashiatsu massage. It was amazing. I really loved her presence. She was intuitive and strong and so lithe on the bars. She’d be down on the floor and before I knew it she’d hop up and do her thing up above me. I think I spent 95% of the time with my eyes rolled in the back of my head. I had to stop myself from drooling.
If I lived in Portland I’d definitely come back to see her regularly.
The staff are all super friendly and welcoming. I tend to get a little nervous in a new setting, but as soon as I spoke with Beth (?) to make our reservation I was put at ease and immediately comfortable. She was so warm.
The place itself is beautiful. The music is good, the rooms are spacious and lush, and everything smells so good. And they use really high quality oils. My partner and I didn’t shower for as long as possible after our massages. His skin was so soft and smelled so good for the next couple of days. I usually can’t wait to shower after I get a massage. This was definitely an exceptional experience.
I had some time to hang out after my massage while he got his and they have a huge variety of local loose leaf tea to try out (I loved the «yoga blend»). I loved the experience of making my own tea and thought it was so great that they have individual tea infusers.
Really professional and yummy and totally worth all of the money.
Next time we’re in town we will definitely be back.

This is not a spa. It is a down to earth, therapeutic massage, with some of the best masseuses :)
My boyfriend and I went in for 90 minute Ashiatsu fusion (combined Ashiatsu with hot stone and Swedish). I had whitney. Whitney is so friendly and pays very close attention to your needs. She explained the whole process and the different types of massages and offered variety of ways to spend the 90 minutes. I asked her to spend more time on my lower back and she made all the pain go away. Usually other therapists will avoid the section all together due to pain.
My boyfriend had Brenda and he says the massage was very well done as well.
The ambiance is nice although not as fancy but the massages are well worth it, especially the Ashiatsu.

I was in Portland for work and needed a massage badly. So, I Unilocaled this place and booked one for the same day. It was… AMAZING. Hands down the best massage I’ve ever had! Merlin Arbor is a magician… her energy is so calming and her petite person is so strong! She is simply amazing.
I called my husband to tell him we have to visit Portland and come back to Mudra, specifically. Even if we don’t do anything else, I’ll be ok with that.
