Multnomah Athletic Club

I came here for a charity auction and talk about a cool facility! I would love to be a member! There are so many amenities, from a bar and restaurant to gym facilities to banquet halls. Such a cool experience!

It’s a nice place but if you are there for an event, you have to park far away… if you are there for an event more than likely you are wearing a business suit, heals and when it’s raining not fun to have to park far away from the actual club. Nothing like feeling you are a second rate client.

I’ve been a member since I was a kid (I’m 25 now). I absolutely love the environment and the people here. I used to go to the camps, play on the volleyball team, and use the pool on a pretty regular basis. Now, I mostly just use the weight room/​fitness center and do personal training with Derek Kirkland. He’s the BEST trainer, although they are all incredibly nice and friendly. I love the MAC because it’s clean and the amenities are fantastic. MAC snacks (which is now Joe’s) has been remodeled and its kid friendly and again, pretty darn clean. The locker rooms are great as well. I just love coming here. Not to mention the amazing view onto Providence Park watching soccer and what used to be PGE Park watching the baseball games. I just had a baby girl and can’t wait to use the facilities for day care and put her into the camps. The staff is trustworthy, friendly, and actually take their time with kids. That’s super important to me and I love that they can have fun while I use the gym.
Some of the rules and regulations are outrageous but for the most part, I am lucky to be apart of such an amazing environment.

The sole reason I stay in Portland

I only go here for networking meetings but the facility is beautiful and the staff has always been very helpful. The typical clientele is a little uppidy but I just smile and keep on going! The food is always very well displayed and tasty, and the staff refills and cleans continuously. If you are looking for a place for a banquet, large meeting, reception… This is a great place.

The MAC club is a place I only go to for events, as I am not a member. But their event space and food service is always good. The staff is friendly. The parking is convenient.
I am always pleased when an organization that I support uses this facility.

To be upfront: this review of the MAC is based on a wedding reception we attended last year as well as our interaction with a staff member as we searched for a wedding venue ourselves. I have no knowledge of the MAC as an exercise facility but we were so happy with our two experiences I felt I needed to acknowledge them publicly.
Last year my friend held her wedding reception at the MAC (note: you must be a member or know a member). It was gorgeous. Excellent staff, great food, and easy transitions throughout the evening. Aside from a slight mix-​up with alcohol, my friend was very happy with her reception and felt well taken care-​of.
Over the past few weeks my fiancé and I have been looking for wedding venues, and the MAC came up as an option. Although it was ultimately out of our budget, the coordinator with whom we worked — Kayley — was extremely helpful and professional. She was willing to provide different options and scenarios at different budget points, and when we informed her that we were going to search elsewhere she was gracious and glad we had been able to solidify our budget to meet our needs.
If you belong to the MAC or know a member there, consider calling them for information about a wedding ceremony or reception!

As a kid, my sister and I spent endles hours entertaining ourselves, taking classes, doing homework at, and eventually ‘working out’ at this club– definitely it felt like a ‘second home’.
I’m all grown up now and am not an active member, and live in SoCal… But when I was planning my wedding last year up there, I thought the MAC club would be the perfect place for our rehearsal dinner (my dad is still a member) and to host all of our out-​of-​town guests. It was over-​the-​top special, thanks to the banquet and event coordination done by Shaun Perry there (sorry Shaun, I don’t remember your title exactly). He made it so much more beautiful and special than I even hoped (or asked!) for and because of him, the rehearsal dinner there was my favorite event besides ‘our vows’ of that time. The food was fantastic also, and Shaun helped me select really yummy options from the expansive menu.
If you are a member or know someone that is thinking of hosting a special event there, they will ‘wow’ you!

Horrible food, unkind staff, undeservedly pretentious. They are clearly all about the money, which is sad because I know nicer people and better chefs without a dime to their name. How do you run out of mixed greens and rolls? I mean come on, this doesn’t even require cooking.
This place only showed me 2 things: a beautiful view of PGE stadium, and the fact that money isn’t worth anything.

I was able to try out the MAC as a guest because a friend is a member there. Let me rephrase, he inherited the membership because his family have been MAC members for ages. I can’t think of another place that’s so exclusive in Portland, which really gave me high expectations for this place. I wouldn’t necessarily describe the MAC as a high-​tech, cutting edge facility. Rather, it’s very understated but the décor and uniformed staff reminds me of a fancy hotel rather than an athletic club and you can tell no expense has been withheld to give their members a comfortable environment to get their fitness on. My favorite features are the crystal clear pools which have a balcony area for onlookers. I also noticed a couple restaurants/​cafes that I didn’t have a chance to check out, but can easily see how someone could spend a whole day at the MAC. Overall, I’m impressed by the MAC but will stick with 24 Hour Fitness for now… at least until I get the magical invite to become a MAC member. :)

This place is THE exclusive member only venue in Portland. It’s old and some of the rules are played out but that’s what’s good about it. Yes it costs an arm in a leg to join, and you have to be a selected in a lottery, that’s what’s so great about it. The food is awesome, (monthly member perks!) and the drinks are discounted. My favorite is the Blue Goose Martini found in the men’s bar! I can’t wait to watch a Beaver game out in the patio!
On another note, if you have kids this is the place, because during the fall and winter the MAC has family fun nights every Friday! This is where adult can enjoy wine and cocktails while socializing with other parents and friends.

I LOVE the MAC club. I mean I don’t know why I’m giving it 5 stars. I really shouldn’t. It’s terribly snooty, but I have a soft, soft, soft spot in my heart for athletic clubs of all shapes and sizes and I practically grew up here so it’s associated with all sorts of memories. The MAC has 3 pools, 2 restaurants, and various other places to eat, tons of tennis courts, an enormous facility for gymnastics. There are a variety of classes offered.
There is a closed membership but if you’re a kid who’s at all athletic you can get an athletic scholarship. Ok, you have to be pretty athletic, but this was how I got my «in» and eventually my family became members. It isn’t *that* expensive, it’s just getting the membership that’s the difficult thing. It is located right in the heart of Portland. You can also get a membership by being a scholar-​athlete in your sophmore year of high school which my brother did. This allows you to become an adult member too, AND allows you to bring a friend.

Huge, nice, recreational facility with state of the art equipment and facilities… but, a bit «old»: closed membership, dress code, Mens Club, and expensive.
