Friendly library staff. Was a little unsettling to discover a sheriff patrols the library like a prison – I suppose you’ve gotta keep the riff raff at bay. They also lock the restrooms which is pretty inconvenient.

Love this library!
The librarians are very nice and good at what they do. Good feel to the building and a great selection of books.
The only drawback is that kids can be kind of loud so you might not want to stay and read.
Definitely would recommend this library!

Not the most extravagant Portland library location, nor the largest, but it serves its public well. There aren’t many tables to sit down and the on-​site book selection is fairly limited, but the trick with the library is to search for what you’re looking for online and requesting it at your nearest branch library.
The library puts on regular events and classes to serve parents, immigrants, the elderly, job seekers, and other interested members of the community. It’s a valuable neighborhood resource and I for one am glad it’s here.

Great library. Lots of kid events. I’m learning how to do Canning, so I’ll be here often but not on Mondays. This location is closed on Monday.

Except for the fact that I refer to borrowing books as «renting» them, my librarian friend says that I’m a good patron. Why?
Because I reserve my books and pay my fees online, and only visit the physical location to pick up and return materials, using the self-​check stations and never speaking to a soul. It’s possible that my librarian friend doesn’t especially like people all that much.
The Holgate branch is set up wonderfully for a patron like me. Parking is generally easy, and there’s plenty of bike parking if I bike it over instead. Once in the building, I know right where to go to get my holds, and there are plenty of self-​check stations, so I hardly ever have to stop moving from the time I walk into the door. So fluid. Like a literary ballet.
My home is closer to Woodstock which is prettier, sure, but for my level of patronage, I prefer this joint. Fewer patrons. Easier access. Pirouette and jette.

–always parking in the lot
–it’s a library and it’s free
–plenty of staff to be found
–charming in its own way
Cons
–too close to 82nd to have anything but a really weird assortment of people lumbering about, sitting, needing the bathroom
–strangely overzealous workers occasionally loitering or materializing in very close proximity, maybe they are bouncers? Maybe I am, in fact, one of the weirdos?
–flip through bins for kids books not a fun or featured spot — often empty or 70% irrelevant holiday

This is a terrific branch of the wonderful library system we are blessed to have here in Portland. The staff is very courteous and always available to help everyone. The internet computers can be busy but the self-​checkout more than makes up for having to wait a few minutes to use the internet. It’s a small branch with easy parking and just a short walk from 82nd.

I love the Holgate library. It’s a small branch, tucked away in a neighborhood and they add so much value to the community around them.
The classes they offer are great. They have lots of childrens programs, as well as teen offerings.
They have a nice bank of computers and really great staff. The head librarian, Vicky, always makes it a priority to come to the neighborhood association meetings for Mt. Scott-​Arleta to keep neighbors up-​to-​date on library activities and happenings. I love how committed they are to offering relevant and needed resources to the patrons they serve.
