Odessa

i’ve been shopping at Odessa since Susan opened the place in 2007 (I think it was 2007? maybe 8?) The selection and taste she has is beyond outstanding — Susan has an eye for the future and her selections wear timelessly and well. Her penchant for craft is superlative and the care and insight she provides to all of her customers is always beyond supreme. Portland is lucky to have a boutique such as Odessa. Thanks, Susan!!!

Oh Odessa…
Upon visiting (I live in SF) this amazing little shop, I was originally drawn in by the name.
My grandma was from Odessa, so I thought how cool… check this place out while paying homage to Gram Ida:-)
Was I pleasantly surprised!!!
What a cool and wonderfully designed little shop in a hoppin part of Portland.
There were clothing labels I have heard of and one from Italy I fell immediately in love with:/)
While there was a section of the shop with a rack at 75% off, there were steals!!!
Unfortunately, I didn’t have enough time to browse on the Sat. afternoon.
So with only the weekend in Portland, I thought I would take a chance and go by on Sunday after an amazing breakfast at Tasty and Alder nearby.
Well, can anyone spare a Kleenex???
The shop was closed… boo hooooooo.
so I cried all the way back to my hotel.
I might just call the store and see if they still have this humongous navy cotton tote made in Italy that my heart was throbbing over.

The sales associate didn’t say a word to me when I walked in. She was totally non-​responsive. Poor customer service.

I went to this store tonight with my daughter. I had a cup of coffee from Cacao next door. It was after 7 pm but there was another client there and I asked if I could come in and she said yes. She then said that I could not have a drink in the store. I asked if I could leave it on the counter and she said no that I would have to put it on the floor at the front door. She then said that her store was really closed. I was so insulted by her behavior and treating me like that when on previous occasions I had bought several items from her store. I could not help but think that some of her comments were racially driven and I told her that I would never return to her store. Her ignorance cannot be masked with high brow designer names. Please do not support this store and their attitudes!

I will NEVER step foot inside this store or recommend it to anyone ever again, thanks to the sales associate working on Sunday, September 21. I’ve had several other bad experiences here over the years, but this was truly the last straw.
My friend and I stopped in to browse. There was an Isabel Marant sweater I’d seen online and I wanted to see if they had it. But the woman working was incredibly creepy, shockingly rude, and provided the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. She made browsing, let alone shopping, completely impossible.
The whole time we were there, she stood behind the counter with her arms crossed, staring directly at us. I’m not exaggerating. Every time I looked up, she was staring DIRECTLY at me with this sour expression on her face. When we made our way from the front of the store over to the back to see the perfumes, she turned her body towards the back to continue staring, with her arms still crossed. When I picked up a pair of shoes, instead of offering to grab my size, etc., she just kept on staring. The store is tiny, the music was barely audible, and there were no other customers there, and she didn’t say a single word to us the entire time. She basically treated us as though she thought we were going to steal something.
The owner is also cold, rude, and guilty of creepily staring at her customers, but at least she’ll attempt to be normal and break the silence by saying things like «Let me know if you’d like to try anything on.»
Susan: If you’re reading this, you need to fire that person and seriously start thinking about providing good customer service or continue to lose customers and add to your bad reputation. Needless to say, I’ll be buying my Isabel Marant elsewhere. I’d rather give my money to a corporate company like Barney’s than waste it on Odessa.

The good: Beautiful clothing in a lovely setting. The bad: there was one other customer in the store who was receiving kind attention, while I wandered about utterly unacknowledged. No «hi», no look up and smile, nothing. I would have tried things on and perhaps made a purchase but the lack of reception – the height of rudeness – made me walk away. I’ll find my Isabel Marant elsewhere, thank you very much.

The owner is probably one of the rudest women I’ve ever encountered in fashion and in life in general. The funny thing with retail is that customer service is pretty important, especially when you are selling $ 400 sweaters. Lady needs a reality check and probably a boyfriend. I do not recommend this store. Frances Mae, Una, and Stand Up Comedy sell similar brands and are worlds better than Odessa.

Yawn. A totally tired selection of over-​hyped designers. I’ve lived years in several fashion capitals, and Portland, you are not one– though the owner seems to think she has THE MOST important job in the world. What an ugly, odious piece of trash. You sell fabric for a living! Shop elsewhere.

The shop is just ok. Actually it would be the only place you could find some exquisite french brand like Isabel Marant. However the lady in the shop is the most arrogant person a met in Portland during 2 weeks — no, the only person.
Yes, my english is not that good because it’s not my mother tongue, but I’ve seen no one treated me like that. She never smiled, and even didn’t glanced at me when I said «Thank you so much, see you.» by leaving there.
Maybe she would thought that I never came back, frankly speaking, I found some nice coats for winter in the shop but I’d never go there again although I had to go to Seattle to find a new shop or to buy something on the internet and wait a week. Sorry for that.

Such a peaceful, wonderfully edited little shop with a lovely owner who is so fun to talk fashion with… I enjoy coming in to the store just for fun, every time I’m in PDX, even if I don’t end up buying something (although I almost always end up buying something).
Bonus: there are occasionally truly mind-​blowing deals to be had… I just got some amazing Isabel Marant pieces at 70% off! YES!

Love this store. One of the only stores I recommend to out-​of-​towners looking for amazing fashion. You can’t beat the selection. The owner has a great eye and is an incredible curator. It’s been open for years and I’ve never been disappointed when I stop in.

The only sophisticated feminine store in the Northwest!

I wandered into this tiny store about four years ago and came out with bags full of things I didn’t realize I needed. Here is where I discovered Kerry Cassill textiles, which include the most gorgeous, hand-​dyed quilts I have ever seen. I somehow manage to buy a new one every year for myself. They also make a great, if pricey, gift. I love the owner of the store, too. She helps select items and really knows about her inventory. A great little shop!

I love love love Isabel Marant. I love love love Martin Margiela… and I’m starting to love Jeffrey Monteiro. Guess what, this quaint little boutique has them all! Maybe Boy by Band of Outsiders next time? And more shoes? And maybe photos of what sells in-​store on the website…

Shuuuuussssshhhhh! Please do not tell my husband I stop by here. He does not need to know anything about this! In fact, I just may need to find myself a second source of income (like a second job, nothing questionable!) to satisfy my desire for just about everything Susan has to offer in this treasure box of enticement!
I stopped in the other day & have been thinking lustful thoughts of certain Isabel Marant garments… When we lived in Berkeley, I regularly purchased Kerry Cassil clothing as well as occasionally splurging on some linens. There is nothing so light & ethereal as a dress made from this handkerchief weight cotton! The pillow cases & quilts render sweet dreams like nothing legal can! This was a complete indulgence living in an area that has maybe 5 truly hot days a year… still, it was worth it. Now I know where to get my linen fix!
Susan is so personable, & understands the clothing and her customers very well. She has an eye for detail, and the shop is pure pleasure. I would happily squander my last paycheck for a dream of a dress from Odessa!

the when we were ready to leave the shopkeeper said to us: «Wanna see the sale items?» and peeled back a linen curtain.
And it was good.
