Office PDX

So bummed this place closed down. They were one of my preferred vendors and the owner was great!

I’m sad to report that this storefront has closed. Looks like they are running an online store, which I would hope does well!

I have never actually visited Office PDX, but I have ordered on line. Tony (Owner and Creative Director) was also very helpful regarding some ordering complications.
My sturdy Utility Notebook (GPR 96) worked well during a recent audit trip to Sarnia Ontario. And my handsome Print Olivetti (typewriter) poster is one cool retro work of art. I also hope that they start selling their Office memo cards. In any event, I look forward to my next virtual or brick/​morter purchase.

The selection is not extensive but all of the products are solid with an attention to details for the design connoisseur. they do not sell your run of the mill Staples or Office Max products here. the staff is SUPER friendly and will go out of their way to assist you.

As an Alberta Street resident, I have the privilege patronizing a diverse collection of small businesses — all owned by well-​meaning individuals who sincerely believe in their products/​services. Office PDX is the epitome of a business whose function is not to sell you cheaply-​made wares, but to educate and entice you with beautiful, functional, well-​made products.
Kelly Coller and Tony Secolo are committed not only in their store, but in the many social and communal spheres of Portland. Not content to simply rest on their laurels with a bunch of design awards, they are constantly hosting events; inviting creatives to share their art via the art space or through their many in-​store functions; as well as forging new business and personal relationships in the design world. They simply cannot remain stagnant and their passion for design is laden in every aspect of their store.
While many of their products seem overly-​hip or a bit pricey, I am hard-​pressed to say that Office PDX is merely a showroom for hipsters, judging by the wide array of people that shop there. I, for one, am willing to lay down a little extra cash for some locally-​made stationary or small-​batch published books. Not to mention the bevy of artists that grace the walls (Amy Ruppell, Trish Grantham, Mike King, etc.)…
Office PDX is not only committed to a utilitarian, functional aesthetic but to educating our community about the wide, intimidating world of design, organizational tools, and DIY (if the book selection is of any indication). Plus their access to Blu Dot furniture is an added bonus. How lucky we are!

(Warning: The following is an oh-​so jaded review based on one too many assumptions trumped up by an overly optimistic friend who I now presume was on their third bottle of wine when they read HOW Magazine’s Dec. ’08 review of Office PDX.)
I was sent to investigate by an out-​of-​state friend who had read about Office PDX in a semi-​credible graphic design magazine. Convinced it was a hard-​candy store for graphic design junkies. Deluded into believing it might just be the gateway to design nirvana or shangri-​la or some such, I set out to make a full inventory.
Unfortunately, I am disappointed report Office PDX to be little more than a «tchochkles store» as reviewer Benja noted below. If only I had read his review first and set my (wildly misguided) expectations accordingly.
It does have an assortment of blank journals, pens and novelty cards that might appeal to «designer wannabe» hipsters. But slick portfolio cases and blank sketchbooks don’t quite produce the same buzz as a few hours in the Pearl Room at Powell’s Books, or even better, Hennessey & Ingalls in Santa Monica, CA. (Oh fear & loathing! Did I really just mention … California. Yikes.)
I suspect that Office PDX, by way of exhibitions and events might have more to offer than the trinkets on display. And after reading the other reviews I must admit I completely missed the display cabinet with vintage office equipment.
Perhaps when Last Thursday returns next year I will have to revisit the Office.

J got some really cool pushpins (wood, rounded ends) and I got a comfy padded sleeve for the mac. so there.
And the owner is cool and nice and happy to be there, much like everybody else I have met in portland!

Being a business owner myself I have to say that I am in utter awe of this store. What they do, they do EXTREMELY well. Their logo, finish-​out, merchandise, is all branded flawlessly. I began shopping at Office before I opened my boutique on Alberta and have always managed to find gifts for the really stubborn people on my list. (i.e. my spouse).
Since I’ve opened, it’s been a great pleasure to get to know Kelly and Tony and work with them on street events. I am always amazed at the huge turnout at their store events. A true testimony to their success.

Its time to come clean: Monica Geller was my favorite friends character. I love the phrase «If its not a right angle, its a wrong angle». I keep a (color coded) notebook of tips from Marth Stewart’s shows. Clothes and shoes are in color and style order — always. Desk supplies are lined up on the desk like the Von Trapp family — biggest to smallest, respectively. I’m trying to tell you that I LOVE organization.
What I have always loved just a little bit more than organization is style. I would rather have the clothes and shoes in a touch of dissary than an ugly dresser. I might occasionally let the notebooks and supplies pile up (just a little) if I can’t find cute enough desk supplies.
Office is like Style and Organization met at a bar, got drunk and made a baby. Now they’re movin in together to raise said baby with all the hipster, grup-​y, progressive love they can muster.
Thanks to Office I no longer have to sacrifice style for organization or vice versa. I don’t have to hide my notebooks in a closet somewhere! My desk is organized but still looks like me… cute! HA!

this is a great store for ‘design’ goods. a little pricey, but whatevs.
my only gripe: i fell in love with a vintage cocktail book i saw on a table only to learn that it wasn’t for sale! ugh! put it in a case or something! don’t let me thumb through it and get all attached.

Oh, Office, how I adore your organizational supplies, your beautiful laptop bags, your exquisite business card holders. How I love to browse through all manner of interesting magazines that you keep in stock! How I delight in replenishing my stock of ‘Field Notes’ notebooks! The 3-​ring binders you carry are breathtaking!
In conclusion, I heart office.

Ok… I’m the first to admit that I get giddy over office products. The back to school sections in stores each fall bring me nearly to tears. A new notebook? A pack of new pens? My heart pounds with delight. Someone would be more likely to win me over with a packet of post-​it tabs than a dozen roses. I’m an organization-​a-​holic. The textbook definition of Type A. A nerd.
However…I am a fashionable version of all of these things. You won’t find me with a pocket protector. My office supplies need a safe place in my laptop case, in my purse, or on my desk, and need to fit in with the other aesthetically pleasing things that will be surrounding it.
And then I found Office (thanks, Laura N!) and I was in love. If I had enough money, I would have bought the whole store. This place is a smorgasboard of beautifully-​crafted office supplies, magazines, planners, notebooks, everything. I went in to get a gift for my dad and walked out with that and of course something for myself. When payday rolls around, Office and I will become very good friends.

I am an office supply freak. Colors… and…and…tabs…and.oh…desk organizers… calendars…a nice pen… can all really fire me up.
Yet as type A as this might sound, I wish office supplies could spice up my life the way a good purse does. Or, say, the way I feel when I put on a sexy pair of heels.
ENTER OFFICE.
This glorious office-​boutique took type A organization and ran it head into type B creativity… creating a new genre of type A-​minus fashionable office products. Or what I might call functional office art.
Owners Kelly and Tony also really know how to throw an office party — and if you check in on their award winning website from time you time, you may find your self putting in a little overtime with a martini glass in hand!

This is a wonderful place to spend a fortune on the most beautiful office supplies you’ve ever seen! Tons of binders, notebooks, typewriters, and the sleekest of staplers. Deck out your desk with the lamps, chairs and organizers too.
I first when here for a photography show that opened as part of Last Thursday, but was pleasantly suprised by the beautiful office supplies.

It’s hard not to love Office! The selection of hip, retro office-​everything makes it fun and cool to buy otherwise boring office gadgets and accessories. For those more substantial needs, Office has a unique selection of desks, lamps and chairs with pizazz, style and personality.
Office gets involved in the neighborhood and supports local artists by hosting events and openings. I popped in to support a local book launch, and thought the space was a perfect place to linger and mingle… and of course I just HAD to stock up on some cool office things!

This is a really nice store. Graphic designers, people who appreciate retro, or just good design will «get it». There is more and more popping up in this neighborhood so it’s worth the ride if you don’t live nearby.

I love office. It’s about time someone realized that it’s ok to be hip and love office supplies and organization in general. Great looking new and authentic 50’s chairs and lamps, of course, but they also have wonderful looking (and working) binders, business card holders, and other desk accessories. I totally agree with Brandy’s review, obviously, and hint hint. You can think of Office as a church for those of us who crusade to bring fun and style into our 9 to 5s.

I often make a run to Office when I need a new notebook, or want to get some stationery or notecards. It is indeed a fine place to come for gifts for someone who might be a little difficult to shop for — lots of classy, useful, yet sometimes gadget-​y office equipment and supplies.
Office also has gallery space, have hosted some openings, participated in Last Thursday events and generally been quite supportive of the arts scene in the area. I find their gallery exhibits among the more interesting I’ve seen in a city laden with bad coffee house art.
