IF. .. you’re shopping for normal office supplies, you know, things like bulldog clips, legal size paper, filing labels, etc, then don’t even bother coming here. Their excuse (for a year or so) is that they were taken over by Office Depot and their new store configuration isn’t in yet. Today I got all the office supplies I couldn’t get there, at Dollar Store!
Mind you, I’ve bought two laptop computers here, and have no complaints with those. In fact, they gave me a $ 5 courtesy discount on my last visit, because they didn’t stock most of the items I wanted. And the clerks are friendly, but I feel sorry for them having to make excuses why head office can’t figure out how to stock staples and paper clips IN AN OFFICE SUPPLY STORE!

Surprised to read anyone has had a bad experience here. Great customer service. Friendly and helpful staff. Has enough selection to meet my office requirements. Very happy this store is here.

Trillian and Tim helped us out so much with our custom print job, I would HIGHLY recommend going here if you need help with any printing. Even though this is a chain store, the people working here are wonderful. Trillian provided us with many options to print our hand-​drawn postcard invitations and we didn’t feel pressure to make decisions too quickly. She seemed genuinely interested in helping us achieve the outcome we were hoping for in a timely manner. The store is really nice and everyone was incredibly friendly. After a less than stellar experience at Kinkos, we paid less and were so much more satisfied with the outcome at Office Max. And we had our custom invitations designed and printed in less than an hour. Great experience!

I thought it was idiotic to review an office supply chain, but I have to say, I was really impressed. The service was completely on point, totally helpful and professional. I also really liked the store layout, it felt very modern and open and clean. Not cluttered or dusty or claustrophobic. A+ OfficeMax, A+

I was treated with extreme disrespect by manager Brandon. I never write reviews but was so offended by his treatment that I was prompted to write this Unilocal review. He was clearly not interested in helping and spent all of his time belittling his staff.
I went into the store to set up a business account. Brandon said he would assist me then promptly left the store. I waited for 35 minutes then asked a customer service associate for some help. She paged the manager, but I informed her that I watched him leave the store. Obviously exasperated, she rolled her eyes and mentioned that this happens all the time.
A store without a manger is worthless. Never go here.

This place has a good selection of office supplies… not the best, but you can find most of the basic things you might want.
If you want anything special or a bit exotic… they will try to point you towards the website. To me, this is highly annoying. I know how to use the interwebs. The reason I came into your store was to actually get an item in my grubby little hands and walk out the door with it.
Also, the staff is helpful, but in a sort of creepily obsessive way. If I just ask you to point me in the right direction or to the proper aisle that means I want to be left alone. I don’t want someone pestering me with questions.
All in all, this place is perfectly fine to go grab some quick supplies, but be prepared… It won’t have a real deep inventory.

Worst customer service ever. Only one guy in the store knew how to do Fedex international shipping… Ridiculous. If only the new Fedex store in the neighborhood would be open, I would have gone there.
Twenty minutes to send an envelope is insane. I had filled the waybill while I was waiting.

This Unilocal info is wrong. Unilocal won’t change it. They close at 8, not 9, so don’t go after 8.

I had nothing but good experiences here, until I tried to buy something more than pens. I needed an external hard drive, I found what I wanted and took one of the six or seven «take this to the counter» cards up to the counter.

After ten minutes I find out there’s only one in inventory and it’s actually a return item that’s stuck there somehow. Wow, what bullshit.
But there’s an alternative! Would I like a similar model that’s oh, 25% more expensive?
Can I get it for this price? Since I’ve been waiting for your troglodyte to dig through the cavern?
No.
Go fuck yourself OfficeMax. If only there were somewhere other than super crappy Office Depot to get office supplies over here.

This OfficeMax is horrible, unless you know where everything is… I work nearby, so they’re the easiest spot to stop by when we ergently need office supplies… However, every employee on the floor is usually standing around with the other employees on the floor having a conversation. Now, that’s not a problem to me if one of them would pull out of the conversation to ask me if I need any help, but that never happens. I’m pretty sure one or two of them are management as well. Three or four employees will just be talking while two people work up front (one running the copies and things, another being a cashier). I don’t even need help a majority of the time, but the fact that no one will ever offer it… Well, that’s crappy customer service for sure.

I’m sure this is a great spot for office supplies and in-​store orders that do not have a time-​stamp, however after reading the great reviews I placed on online order at 9am for a 7 page presentation and asked to pick it up at noon. When I called to check at 11:30, not only had they never even heard of my order, but they laughed and said it takes 3 days to process any printing. Yikes! Definitely not the spot for your quick business needs, I sent everything over to Kinkos and they helped me out in 25 minutes.

I had a great experience with printing services at OfficeMax.
The store employee, I believe his name was William, was incredibly helpful. He provided specific paper parameters that the OfficeMax printers were capable of printing. I found the perfect thick stock paper at Oblation, just blocks away.
I was incredibly impressed with the end result and color quality. William wanted to make sure the job was perfect and he did a great job that was very affordable.
I had a much better experience at OfficeMax for printing services than I have in the past at FedEx Kinko’s.

Stay away from Office Max for computer repairs. This review is for the new PC repair services that are now being offered by Office Max.
My desktop had been running great until it randomly started turning off with increasing frequency. Saw a sign outside that offers free PC diagnostic check up, which I took advantage of.
After a few hours, they told me they found dust on the heatsink as well malware on my computer, both of which were contributing to the problem. I was told to pay $ 150 which would cover cleaning out the computer of viruses and malware, install a premium blocker of those programs (McAfee) and the cost of cleaning out the heatsink. The malware is a surprise to me because I run a daily full sweep with Avira Antivir, that autoupdates itself daily. I’m pretty handy with computers and know that McAfee is crap, but I figured the price for fixing the heatsink was worth it, and better than buying a new computer. I can always uninstall McAfee later if I want.
Later that day, I was told that after their work on it, the computer was still turning off randomly. They would need to send it out of the branch to a warehouse of some sorts, but at no additional cost to me, and that I may even get back $ 20 to $ 30 back from from $ 150.
That was April 14^th, 2011. Today is May 4^th. I haven’t heard back from them about what the problem is or when is the estimated time I can get my computer back. I’ve called in, but haven’t been able to get an answer. Last week, I got a voicemail telling me to expect a call the next day, which never occurred. Right before that, they called me and explained that the problem was due to malware, that I did not have a program installed to protect the PC, and I would need to pay $ 150 to install McAfee. Hmm… déjà vu? The words spoken to me were exactly the same as before but from a different person. Turns out he accidentally called the wrong number, but I fear that they are offering free PC check ups to everyone and falsely upselling customers on this $ 150 service.
Please stay away from Office Max if you need your computer fixed. I have not gotten the impression they know what they are doing beyond installing McAfee. If your computer gets sent out of their branch, all communication seems to cease.

Why all Office-​ish stores are always empty? Same with this Office Max in the Pearl district. We walked in, found what we were looking for, paid, and left. During the whole time we were in there, probably there were about three or four other customers came and gone.
Like other office-​ish stores, they sell pretty much everything you need for your office life or your home office life. Not only that, they also have some DVDs and video games on sale. When I was there, I could get the combo DVD set of Bad Boys and Bad Boys II for $ 9.99 and I politely declined the offer. I’m sure Will Smith won’t be happy, but I just don’t think I can re-​watch Bad Boys II. Sorry, Mr Smith. It’s not you, it’s me.

I work in the Pearl and always make coupons and fliers with them. They are so nice there and get the job done. Make sure you are very detailed with your requests. Love them. Thanks Lily the printer gal!

They had what I needed, and service was very good as well…

When I worked at OfficeMax in 1998, I remember the chatter when this idea arose: Take the big, out of the box store, and stick it downtown. Keep the whole copy center, add the most popular office supply items, and blow Kinko’s out of the water.
Kinko’s (‘scuse me, FedEx Office) tried to fight back by adding office supplies, but chose the ones that you’d think of if you were playing some trivia game, not the ones that people actually buy. While OfficeMax has better data on the most-​purchased items, you’d think FedEx Whatever would have gotten a clue by now, that they’re carrying the wrong items (when I worked for them, the stuff never sold, and they never changed).
I especially love this location in the Pearl, right at a streetcar stop. It’s everything the box store is not (isolated, ugly, dreary, far away), while having a shockingly large selection.
From desks to computers, all the things you’d want to find are there, with a nice array within each product category: Something cheap, something extravagant, things in different colors, things for the starving student, things for the six-​figure executive, and — so important in the middle of the densified city — a massive selection of workspace organizing products from simple plastic to attractive leather.
Usually the in-​city office supply store (or campus bookstore) is «OH, I guess this item will do, it’s close enough to what I really wanted» and «OH I guess I’ll pay twice as much for it, since I must have it now.» I absolutely did not expect to come out having happily found *precisely* what I wanted, for a price that didn’t make me whine about not having my car to drive into the ‘burbs.
I didn’t use the print center (Now rebranded as «Impress», apparently), but having run a CopyMax and managed at Kinko’s, I had a look around and was «impressed»: User-​friendly self-​service copiers, a clean and welcoming self-​service area, a full-​service area that screams «your job won’t get lost here» and «yes we can do that», plus a knowledgeable staff.
The staff was easy to find, and giving genuinely good service (as opposed to adequate according to their training points). I appreciated some unusual credit card security too: on a transaction below $ 20, they not only checked my signature on my credit card but have to type in some information off the card to verify it.
Another odd item that may be useful to a few people: If you trend toward respiratory allergies, or are chemically sensitive, you might notice that being inside copy places bothers you. Having been in that business for 10 years, I was shocked that I found the copy center by sight after having been in the store for half an hour — not by picking up on the smell of ozone and the irritation of toner and paper dust.
Now, if only PetSmart and Costco would follow suit …

I really like not having to drive to run errands. I have to say this is one of the benefits of the development of the pearl.
Its pretty much an office max… paper, computers, printers.
Take the streetcar, since it goes right in front of it and street parking sucks.

Kudos to OfficeMax
If you’re looking for a copy business to save your butt on a deadline for school or work, check out OfficeMax.
I know that Kinko’s is the big boy of the copy business but since there’s not one close to my place, I go to OfficeMax on NW 14^th and Lovejoy. I’ve never been anything less than 100 percent satisfied with their service.
Since my printer was out of commission, I called OfficeMax to find out how much some copies would be. I needed them ASAP and didn’t want to go out in the snow unless they could do them fast. Brandon, who was on duty, offered me a convenient service that I couldn’t pass up. He suggested that I email my attachments, and he’d have the copies ready for me to pick up in a few minutes. How cool was that? He even emailed me back to see if I wanted them stapled.
The entire staff at this OfficeMax always seems to step up when it comes to service. I’ve also had business cards printed there, and they always suggest a cheapest way to get what you want. In my case, the salesgirl told me to design it myself to save money.
My only regret was that I didn’t have this shop close by when I was in college and seemingly writing term papers every week. I’m sure they would have helped me squeak through several deadlines.
Tip: Go after 6 p.m. Because it’s located in a congested area, parking can be a pain during the day. Plus, it’s free at night.
