Ive been to many galleries here in Portland and to be honest a lot of them are good but not great. Good because of where we are located and the access to artists and shows are limited so the galleries do what they can to attract talent but if compared to the metropolitan cities in the US where the diversity of culture and art is prolific the Portland art scene would shudder in comparison. I mean there is a lot of «local» and«eclectic» art but very centralized to the culture here which can be good and challenging at the same time. There is a point to bring int relevant art that meets the needs of the city but I always lean on the wise words of, if you are not provoking a reaction weather its praise or disgust your art is at the very best, forgettable. I enjoy art that shakes people up, art that inspires as well as breaks the norm, art that raises questions, offends you, art that starts conversations. The One Grand Gallery brings a new edge to the city of Portland. As the previous one star rating mentions, yes they are a little inconsistent and unpredictable but for shits sake this is art and your dealing with creatives, they are unpredictable by nature. This aint your NW knitting shop that opens at 8am and closes at 4pm sharp no matter what the crowd is like because they want to get home and watch the 5oclock news. The crew at One Grand Gallery shakes it up, brings in provocative artists, has parties where patrons do keg stands, they have floods that destroy the space, the bring in 80lbs of dirt to make the largest coke line you have ever seen, they do a coke clock, they graffiti the permanent walls of the space and then sells it off as art. This is what a gallery should be, free flowing, on edge, bringing new artist to this vibrant city, shaking the norm. If you want sculptures of beavers, paintings of trees on cliffs, or knitted bicycle poles, the One Grand Gallery isnt for you. Prepare to be provoked. Word is bond

I’ve had the fortunate opportunity of seeing several exhibitions at One Grand Gallery. It’s provided a dynamic selection of artists and events, from Neckface to Thursday movie nights. It’s a great hub and location for like-thinkers. Can’t wait for the next event.

This gallery is a wonderful community space for the arts, offering moving nights and figure drawing on Saturdays! I have really enjoyed the last couple of exhibits they have featured. The staff is young, friendly, and eager to discuss art. They also throw some killer parties!!!
