We brought ONO to our company for an employee engagement event. Everyone loved it! Some had never had actual shave ice and they were blown away. Grant was awesome too. He explained all the options to our people, was very polite and patient. I can’t wait to bring them back for another event!

We had Ono cater an event at our workplace. He brought his truck and served up delicious shave ice for many happy satisfied employees. Don’t hesitate to hire Grant and his crew for any event! Prices for catering are also very reasonable! Thanks for a great event!

I haven’t had Hawaiian shave ice since, well, I was in Hawaii back in 2008. So I’d say it’s been awhile. On a hot day, it was very welcome. It was FremontFest up in the Northeast and Ono came out so keep us cool. There were other shave ice carts as well, but Ono was the only one with POG(Passionfruit, Orange, Guava) mix. If you’ve never been to Hawaii, it’s all over the place and POG juice is good. This isn’t a sno cone or Italian ices or even anything like Rita’s Water Ice(for those that know). Shave ice is much more fine and oh so sweet and they give you quite a bit for only $ 4. They have it with ice cream for $ 4.50 and Hawaiian Style for $ 6 which had ice cream, mochi, azuki bean and snow cap. By the time I got over there they had run out of a few flavors but got what I wanted and was happier for it. Thankfully I missed the long line that had been there earlier. These guys wander, so they aren’t always in the same location. Really, really good stuff. Seek them out. Totally worth it. Enjoy.

I’ve been trying to track down this cart like it is my job! Haven’t had shaved ice in years and I’m going thru withdrawals. You should have a magical little carrier pigeon that flies to my window informing me when you are going to be open. I would wear my Sunday best, and my heart would be all-a-flutter, i would lovingly loiter in front of the cart and eat shaved ice until I had diabetes. And it would be well worth it. Sigh. One day we shall meet, I’ll be your ice queen. How romaaaantic! Xo P. s. I had originally ended this inscribed with a tacky little heart, by using a 3 and a sideways v, but I noticed it had a striking resemblance to balls on a snowcone, and thought that might be offensive. Seeing as how a trashy little snowcone is *nothing* in comparison to Shaved Ice.

Don’t call it a Sno Cone. It’s so much better than that. I might not be able to adequately explain why, so just go stalk them and try for yourself. If you’re lucky enough to track down this fantastic food truck before they sell out for the day, get the shave ice with ice cream. I will warn you, their stuff is really sweet — and I’m a total sweets whore, so saying that is unusual for me. Bonus: they take cards now! If you«like» them on Facebook, you can stay updated with where they’ll be.

Really up there with the best quality ice. So thinly shaved that it instantly melts on your tongue. the only downside is I am starting to get spoiled with a couple of other carts that offer homemade natural flavoring instead of the standard store bought stuff. I love that they go to a bunch of events around town and I hit them several times over the summer.

My all time favorite shaved ice. I love getting the Hawaiian style shaved ice. It’s ice cream, shaved ice with red bean, mochi topping and condensed milk. I like getting it with the coconut flavor. This is the closest you can get to Taiwanese-style shaved ice. They added a new topping the sour dried plum powder, if you are a fan of sour and sweet things I highly recommend you add that on your shaved ice. I found this cart in Maui, to my surprise the owner said he had a cart in Portland too. I came back and looked for it and here it is. A taste of Maui in my hometown. This is the only shave ice cart in Portland that will give you red bean and mochi topping. All of the other shaved ice carts only had flavored syrups as toppings.

Soo glad it’s summer so we can have our Ono Shave Ice! This shave ice is like no other in Oregon! Don’t believe other places when they claim to offer authentic shave ice! They have every flavor imaginable! Melona, POG, mango, banana.etc. The ice melts in your mouth unlike«snow cones» where you have to chew and get a major brain freeze. The ice is delicate and blends with the flavors so you taste more of the sweet good stuff! Plus you can get it with ice cream, azuki beans, and mochi balls. Summer lovin for my mouth!

There are so few places to get shave ice in this town, and you know, Ono’s was all right, but I’m thinking there are a few things that could make it better. Get rid of the paper cup. It affects the flavor. Replace the wooden spoon with a plastic one. All the flavors are really good, really authentic, but the paper and wood changes the flavor and that icked me out.

So yummy, I haven’t had shave ice since living in Hawai’i, now I get it here in Portland! I highly recommend this spot anytime for a tasty and delicious treat. Ono shave ice broke da mouth!

My friend wanted to hit this place up… he got a rainbow shave ice(strawberry, banana, and vanilla flavors). He let me have a bite of the shave ice… and man, that was damn good. The two of us(both from Hawaii) basically got transported back to the Islands. Just how shave ice should be: smooth, shaven ice. None of this granular iced crap that would ever attempt to be passed as shave ice. The syrup was great as well. Definitely authentic stuff here, folks. Ono Shave Ice also has that«Hawaiian Style» option: shave ice w/ice cream, azuki beans, mochi bits, and snow cap(sweetened condensed milk drizzled on the top). They basically brought Hawaii with them to Portland, plain and simple. Definitely gotta give the bonus points here! You can get a regular shave ice for $ 3.50, up to the Hawaiian Style option for $ 5.50. You get a pretty large portion, so it’s money well spent — especially in summer time! Ono Shave Ice doesn’t re-invent the wheel, but they shouldn’t. It’s shave ice. Just a cool, tasty treat fit for a hot summer day. The quality is right up there with Waiola Shave Ice in Hawaii(Ono Shave Ice’s machine is basically what Waiola uses), and the best part is, I won’t have to travel 2600+ miles to get great shave ice now!

What is better than a hawaiian shaved ice in the summer time? Hawaiian shaved ice is much more than just your average water ice. My first experience of this wonderfully and refreshing dessert was at the Rose Festival and I think the cart is located permanently between SW2nd and Stark. Do you know how hard it’s to find a hawaiian shaved ice in Portland? I am just so glad that it’s here. The shaved ice is as fine and smooth as snow, unlike some snow cones where you can chew chunks of ice. There are different types of syrups. Topping options include mochi, red beans and condensed milk. I like to have mine with melona and raspberry flavors plus all of the 3 toppings above. It’s such a killer! The sweetness and tartness of the syrups, the rich and buttery taste of the condensed milk, the contrast of the chewy texture of the mochi and the soft and creamy red beans just gave my mouth an explosion in tastes. To top that, the coolness of the ice melting in your mouth makes each taste so refreshing and satisfying. OMG, and the ice cream at the bottom is such a pleasant surprise. It’s an encouragement to work your way down from the top. So keep on digging, people. The concept of a hawaiian shaved ice is simple and yet so good. This combo is the best. I can’t ask for more on a hot summer day in Portland — there aren’t that many of those days here. So if you have a chance and want to spoil yourself, go get an Ono Shaved Ice. I say it’s daring to have a shaved ice food cart in Portland due to our unique weather. I give credits for the owner and I really appreciate its existence — another unique addition to our infamous Portland food carts. Prices are reasonable. The experience is just fun. Go and experience being a chemist and see what you can create. I think for this summer, I’m going to stuff myself with Ono Shaved Ice till I get a brain freeze.
