I went for the pork sangy instead of an ice treat. Juicy, tender pork with peppers was great! About the size of a small football, the sandwich has great taste and just the right tangy pepper kick. Have had many pulled pork sandwiches in Portland, and none better than this one. I’ll be back! Ken J

Oregon Ice Works is a delicious ending to a meal at pok pok. Their ice cream is somewhat hard to describe– it’s creamy without being milky, it’s soft without being like soft serve and its sweet without being overbearing. My favorite flavor is black sesame. It reminds me of mochi without the flour. I’m not a huge fan of the fruit flavors as some can be rather tart. But if that’s your thing– you’ll probably enjoy it.

Truth be told, I don’t remember which flavours I sampled at Oregon Ice Works. There are two reasons for this: the least forgivable one, certainly, is that it has ‘already’ been three weeks since I had my first spoonful of the frozen delight, & a lot has happened since then — heartbreaking events like the end of the Olympics, or my going back to hometown Montréal. Confronted with such wrecking disasters, the memories of OIW quickly slipped away. The second reason(more understandable, I believe) is the charismatic young man who sold me the said product. Now I was there on an important, if unoriginal, mission: to taste the best Portland has to offer, of course. However, I somehow got distracted by the cute face, the friendly smile, the lively chat, the smooth manners. It is mostly his fault if I cannot properly comment on what I ate at OIW; but it’s also because of him that I can(honestly) write on one of the best customer services I’ve experienced. Thanks Ian!

My all time favorite Vegan ice cream place. My favorites include vanilla coconut(try the sundae for a non vegan version with yummy honey). They have pretty good seasonal rotating flavors, I’m still waiting on my all time favorite coconut cardamom tastes like baklava to me!

Oregon Ice Works totes delivers! Awesome and fun ice flavors, my favorite is the coconut and sesame ice– tastes just like all of my favorite Asian desserts combined! And, man, oh man, can they make some soup too! I had the ginger chicken soup, and lemme tell ya somethin… The soup was so good it tasted like I was sitting in the kitchen of a friends house and he was sharing some home-cooked soup his mom sent him home with. It’s so good it tastes like a little old lady made it and the top ingredient was ‘love.’

Right on the five-star cusp! Oregon Ice Works is unofficially«Oregon Soup Works» during the winter months, so I returned in mid-November 2011 to see if the soup lived up to the hype. I ordered Kevin’s tomato soup($ 5): a generous portion of hearty tomato soup(includes basil, tarragon, oregano, and white wine), topped with melted provolone cheese, croutons, and green onions. Now THIS is an excellent soup. I praised Savor Soup House for their amazing tomato soup in another review, and Kevin’s version is right up there with it. The robust tomato-y flavor here is unlike any tomato soup I’ve encountered. Combining the tomato soup with the softened croutons and melted provolone on top was magic in a container. If I didn’t have this(impossible) quest to try as many food carts as possible, I’d attempt to get my behind to Kevin’s cart every week, bang on the window, and demand some tomato soup. No, I won’t be a creep and track down where he lives. But damn, that soup rules. Yes, Kevin still sells his Oregon Ice. But I think the winter months call for soup, and the tomato soup here is a true winner. Kevin should have other soups rotating each week, so check out his cart ASAP!

I tried their mango ice at one of the movies in the park this summer and was a bit underwhelmed from what I was expecting. The flavor was super tart. Tried another sample at VegFest 2011(coffee I think) and it tasted pretty good. If I was nearby and wanted a cold treat, I would pick up some ice, but I wouldn’t go out of my way.

I was blown away by OIW right after I first tasted some of their ices at the Eat Mobile Fest… and then I promptly forgot that they had a cart at the D Street Noshery, one of my favorite pods. Months later, we stopped in here with friends after dinner at Pok Pok, and it was the perfect nightcap after spicy thai food. Every flavor I’ve ever had from this cart is bright and true to its name/ingredients. I especially love the flavors they occasionally do with various types of Deschutes beer, like the raspberry/Chainbreaker White IPA combo. Sounds strange, but it was a brilliant combo. I’ve been back since and enjoyed mango & pineapple, lemon ginger, and marionberry ices, all outstanding. I particularly loved that the pineapple one still had plenty of ground up pineapple pulp for texture. The guys working the cart are super nice as well, and patient as you taste flavors and try to decide.

I’m a junkie of anything frozen, especially things without dairy in it. It’s not that I don’t like dairy, but I feel a little less guilty of I have desserts without the dairy. The texture of their ice is great. Their flavors are different, but they always work. I would take this ice over ice cream, gelato, or sorbet any day. This is a great place for dessert after a meal at Pok Pok on Division, or you can find them at various festivals around Portland. I have also seen them at Last Thursday on Alberta. The price is fair. The $ 3 small will get any of my sweet tooth cravings out of the way.

This guy makes his flavors extreme: The mango’s a tropical dream; The berry is purer Than an etching by Dürer; With ice like this, who needs the cream?

JULIANA had a STRAWBERRY ice. WYATT had the tart and tangy BLOODORANGE. mom and dad shared a MANGO spiked with flecks of SERRANO chili — pretty good pepper flavor with just a hint of spiceness. great couple with a great product — smooth, cool, creamless and delicious !!!

This place some some of the best and most wonderful Italian Ice that i have ever tasted. Hands down. The coconut vanilla is particularly fantastic. They also make a mean sandwich. Best of all, they are located in the D-Street Noshery. One of the best places to hang out, bring your friends and family and enjoy some good food and beer for low prices. Check them out if you have not done so already.

I tried the coconut vanilla today and found myself pretty much swooning. However, if you are a Little Miss Piggy for frozen treats like I happen to be, $ 3 for a tiny scoop leaves this crackhead for frozen bliss a tad unsatisfied. As my husband would say«there are two kinds of people in this world, those who lick popsicles and those who bite them.» I am of the latter sort and I will have to shell out more dough next time to get way more of the icy good stuff next time I visit Oregon Ice Works!

The Ice– This is not ice cream, it is not Italian ice, it is not gelato, it is fresh fruit mixed with frozen water to create a light refreshing treat fit for kings. The owner(Kevin) expresses his creativity through the combination of flavors that I would have never even considered mixing and the result is pure magic. I love ice cream but am sometimes turned off by the heaviness of the cream. The«Water Ice» is amazingly flavorful without the weight of cream. Every flavor I have had here has been an absolute delight. The Soups– Ginger Chicken Thai… Yes, please!!! The soup here is out of this world. When you mix fresh ingredients with creativity and passion you inevitably end up with greatness and sometimes it comes in a bowl. These soups are phenomenal. and pair great with… The Sandwiches– No offense to Mr. Michael S. but the sandwiches are amazing. Before you judge Oregon Ice Works sandwiches on Michael’s review, go check out some of his other reviews. Anyway, the combination of ingredients on these behemoth sandwiches is very impressive. Broccolini on a pork sandwich? Hell yeah! I like your style! I have recently had to move to Seattle and everyone up here raves about the Pork sandwiches at Paseo in Fremont(Not the street in PDX the Neighborhood here in SEA) The sandwich here does not hold a candle to Kevin’s masterpiece. The Owner– Kevin is one of the nicest dudes I have ever met. He has always made me feel welcome at his cart and always remembers me. He is polite(which was strange when I found out he was from Philly) and always has a smile on his face.

Ice, ice, baby. I love Oregon Ice Works. They serve up some of the best summer relief once scoop at a time. The blueberry is so berry packed that it is bound to satisfy all those antioxidant loving folks. I prefer the vanilla coconut for its subtly sweet, creamy flavor. So creamy, so smooth and no dairy. The green tea matcha is arguably just as good, and it shows that these guys really know top shelf green tea. There are other ice carts around, but I can’t find anyone else who serves up the real stuff like Oregon Ice Works.

I take back anything bad I’ve ever said about dudes wearing backwards baseball caps over the age of 16. Oregon Ice Works Dude, I thank you. For making my afternoon. With not only your super tart and wicked delicious Meyer Lemon ice sample, but also for the much needed cup of locally-made(on SE Foster, holler) pear-ginger kombucha. You see, thanks in part to Lindsay Lohan and in part to the OLCC, New Seasons yanked my favorite kombucha and left me elixer-less in Sellwood. And this girl really needed some SCOBY today(that’s «Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast», which I totally had to look up). $ 2 later, I was all set with a cold glass of the good stuff. Adorable cart, making high quality Italian Ice with fresh ingredients and no junk whatsoever — I’ll be back. Oh, and they have some other beverages and shakes, too!

In the way of tasty frozen healthy treats, Oregon Ice Works is indeed, as good as it gets. After taking some strawberry home to last the week, my boyfriend and I kept sneaking downstairs to the freezer. The plastic container lids are very audible when opened so neither of us had much luck being stealthy. Whenever one of us opened the container, the other would bolt into the kitchen(or wherever they decided to hide) like a cat coming to a can opener… Needless to say, the ice we brought home did not make it to the end of the week. So today we braved the torrential downpour from Hillsboro to Sellwood to get some delicious ice… Who says you need warm weather and a shining sun to enjoy Kevin’s creations?! To be completely honest, feasting on this ice may be a call to good weather. It certainly makes the rain seem less dreary with the bright flavors! I bumped my review from 4 stars to 5 because while there are delectable ice cream places to cool(but also weigh) you down, Oregon Ice Works offers healthy, fresh-fruit ice that is light and full-flavored! There truly is something for everyone here so don’t wait! Head to Oregon Ice Works and put a smile on despite the dreary weather!

Blueberry and Thai coffee flavors… both yum ! I like how the proprietor offered samples, and asked for suggestions on new flavors. Can’t wait to try all the flavors one by one. You can even take a pint home with you. Welcome to Sellwood, Oregon Ice Works!

It’s eight o’clock on a Saturday night in Sellwood, and whilst walking north on 13th, you find a food cart emitting a white radiant light… The only place open with sweet treats this side of Powell… Don’t just try it, love it and become addicted… There’s no question that the owner, Kevin is a master at making something worth practicing intravenous therapy with and dragging the pole behind you as you window shop for an early 20th century lamp down antique row. Honestly, we can’t get enough. We have multiple pints of every flavor in our freezer at home…

Every neighborhood needs an ice dealer. Up to this point Sellwood’s been lacking, other than the occasional hooded sweatshirt by the public telephone or the blatantly ugly musical truck(seriously, what are they really selling?), there hasn’t been a consistent corner to score a fix. Well starting today, in the space formerly occupied by Garden State, our neighborhood can stroll over and get some west coast style italian ice or some vegan ice cream(all free of high fructose corn syrup). Having gone to the soft opening, this is more of a «grab the FTR» than a full review, but I tasted enough to go back, possibly even today. For the price the portions are generous. The Mango ice was refreshing, tasted like mango, perhaps a little too sweet and texturally too sticky, but still great on a sunny day. Anyway this is all preliminary as Kevin’s offerings are evolving and expanding, one of the things I love about the cart world. That’s all for now, will report back after sampling today’s offerings of «Mango, Lemon, Razz, Blueberry, and Stawberry. Coconut Choco Nana is vegan»(as copied from twitter). This cart’s also on FB
