Parr Lumber

Came in with some basic questions about available inventory and instead found myself in a morally compromised position. Every visible on-​shift employee was huddled around the speaker phone engaged in a prank call to someone elsewhere in the company. Prank calls can be fun, primarily during one’s private time, but this call was made only in the meanest spirit.
The employees repeatedly called the (assistant manager?) on the line an idiot, made fun of his speech patterns, and other unprofessional acts of workplace bullying. The attacks continued after the call completed and I tried to slip out undetected but was finally off-​handedly offered help as I lowered my eyes and dashed for the door.
To answer your question, yes I needed help with something, but there is no way I would let any of you do so after what I had just experienced. Instead, I said no and ran off knowing full well that if I had to have an actual conversation with any of you it was going to be not about my board needs, but rather an ugly one about the situation at hand.
Ultimately, I know there was nothing I could do to change what had just happened so I came here to share my experience. If you were my employees, you would all have been fired on the spot for representing the company and yourselves in such a poor light. Hopefully as a result of losing your job you would GTFU and learn to treat other ppl with dignity and respect.
FWIW, this all occurred at ~3:45 pm on 12÷17÷14.

I’m not at all a handyman, and I don’t know much about lumber. But, I decided to attempt a woodworking project and visited a few lumber stores in the area. I stopped at four or five of them and Parr was easily the best. They had a nice selection, and everyone I spoke to was extremely helpful. Given my beginner-​level questions, some of the other lumber stores didn’t take me very seriously, but the people at Parr were quite patient and helped me through the whole process.

Amazing products with great service! Most prices are similar to what Home Depot would cost for similar quality (which Home Depot isn’t; the reason I go to Parr). Free delivery for $ 300 orders? DONE!

These guys are great! Super friendly neighborhood style service with a ton of knowledge to back it up. I would rather go here 5x a day than to have to go to Home Depot ever again! Plus their prices are comparable to the Depot. So items a bit higher and some lower — I’ll pay a bit more for someone to bring all of it out to my truck on a forklift.

These guys and gals are great! They were my first stop for construction materials for a total kitchen remodel. It is really nice to support a local building supply company with such great prices and service.
My wife needed one more piece of drywall after we rented a pickup to get the initial load. The employees in the yard helped her out by cutting the piece to the exact dimension we needed so it fit in her car. Awesome service!

I just wanted to say that the experience I had and will continue to have with Parr Lumber has been awesome. They have awesome prices, quick delivery and I gave them specific delivery instructions, which I will admit I really didnt think they would follow and they DID to am absolute «T»! They are awesome and I plan to buy my wood from here for all my other projects!

I usually rate food as a Unilocaler but occasionally retail service warrants a few claps of the hand, and today I wanted to give kudos to Parr in NW Portland for, to be blunt, being awesome. After a lame experience at the Parr only 3 blocks from my house, I found out that the Parr in NW is LEED certified and has some decent FSC wood products (which neither Lowes nor Home Depot cares to sell) and other eco friendly inventory, so we headed down there for my deck project. I’m getting my decking itself at Ecohaus, but still needed some decent foundation NOT made of that awful chemical-​laden southern pine that the big box stores are so fond of using. After the MLK Parr store treated me like I was an idiot just because I was new to the whole decking thing (forgive me for not knowing what a joist or how to calculate a lineal foot, what-​ever), I was very satisfied with Marshall (store manager) and the lovely lady helping with my order as well — they were patient, explained things well, and made sure I had everything I needed, with a good understanding of what I needed to tell my friend who is building the deck, along with his card to call him if we have questions once we start building. Never did I feel belittled, as a lot of old school ‘you’re just a girl’ fellows are when women come in to home improvement stores, hardware stores, and auto lots, and that to me is where I put my money. Thanks NW 19^th Parr for being cool today — I’ll be back :)
