Patrick Chapman ND

Have seen Dr. Chapman on several occasions and he’s always taken great care of me. He’s very informative and knowledgable and the clinic is so much nicer than a traditional, sterile Dr.‘s office
Will happily continue to refer people his way

I have been going to Dr. Chapman for three plus years now and would recommend him to the closest people in my life if their lives were on the line.
I first started with him when I had insurance that didn’t cover NDs and he worked with me to see that I received the care I needed despite my insurances unwillingness to pay.
I believe he now has saved from two surgeries one on my rotator cuff and the other on the meniscus in my knee with the injections he does. Just two shots to each area and the pain has been gone for 3 and 2 years respectively. I know for a fact that he has taking many trips to seminars and classes to further his knowledge and skills. The second time I came in for shots he had purchased a sonogram machine so that he more accurately direct the needles thus to treat the patient with the utmost efficiency and least amount of injections.
My last yearly checkup we found that my BP was a high and he has constantly monitored my progress with the lowest levels of the least intrusive meds to make sure that it is under control so that I do not become under Big Pharm’s control.
He has seen my kids and wife and has always always gotten to the bottom of what was ailing us. Usually in a natural medicine way but wise enough to employ Western medicine when he feels that is the best course.
My father was an old school doctor who believed in pharmaceuticals first and life adjustments second and I knew that ideology was going by the wayside at least in the open minds of caring docs.
All I can say to someone who only went once and sits down to write a scathing review is perhaps something was out of the ordinary the day you went in. Everyone has bad days but the Dr. Chapman I know would admit that you received bad service and rectify it if in fact you truly had.
Then again there is no pleasing some people; more and more these days it seems.

Patrick Chapman is GREAT. Totally dedicated to patient outcomes, not hung up on any particular methodology to get there (natro v. conventional med for instance).
Has always been unbelievably accessible to me and my whole family, for even seemingly trivial health concerns.
I have zero concerns about his level of credentials… he’s at the top of his game. Constantly staying educated about his business. I have full faith in him and his opinion. He’s helped me stay healthy over the years.
Sellwood Family Medicine is outstanding. Great facility, and great staff.
Also glad to see Pia in the front office getting some Unilocal love in prior reviews– Pia is a gem!

Patrick Chapman is a very skilled and dedicated doctor. I have been seeing him for many medical reasons since his clinic first opened. He has also been successfully treating various issues my son has had as well. The office is professional, the thinking is forward, and I have recommended many friends to him with success. Thank you Dr Chapman!

Reason for visit: Type 2 Diabetic Care and Management
Patrick Chapman ND was the first Naturopathic Doctor that I have ever gone to and if I judged all naturopathic medicine by the treatment that I received at Sellwood Family Medicine by Chapman, I would return to conventional medicine.
My Review:
I have to first say this, the receptionist, Pia, is awesome!!! She provided me with some of the best customer service that I have ever had in regards to her patience, understanding and good natured attitude.
My appointment was for 2PM. I arrived in the office 15 min early and had ALL of my paperwork ready and completed. It was 2:40PM when I finally got to see him. He started off as my research expecting an ND to do. Asking me ‘my story’ and telling me that it was my time to tell him what I wanted, which I did appreciate. Then when I said that I was nervous and really didn’t want to take insulin, that is when I never got to finish telling him about myself he just started pushing insulin. Now, I understand that I can and will benefit from using it, but I was the one that had to bring up nutrition. I was the one that made a point to let him know that I had changed to a natural organic whole foods diet. He spoke very little nor addressed the subject of nutrition.
Also, I must make a point to professionalism. Dr. Chapman used profanity and cussed several times during the visit. I am no prude by any standards, but when your Dr flies the «F» bomb during your visit… a person begins to wonder.
Dr. Chapman left several times to go get supplies and whatnot and on the last return, he talked to a patient out in the waiting area and told him he would be done shortly… Then it was like he wanted me out of there. Scribbling on a prescription pad for the insulin, giving me (2) bottles of herbs that he never really explained and hurried me out. He did tell me that he had the ‘on call’ pager and if I needed anything… to call him day or night.
It wasn’t until I got to the pharmacy that the reality of the situation became clear. Because he was late getting me into my appointment (not my fault) and that he rushed my appointment to get to his next (again not my fault) he neglected to put the directions on the prescription and the pharmacy couldn’t fill it. When the Pharmacy told me that she tried to call Sellwood Family Medicine that the message stated that if the oncall Doctor was paged, that I would be charged. The Pharmacy called, I paged twice and NO ONE called me back. The next day was Dr. Chapman was off and I called the Office and let Pia know what happened and that I would not be coming back. She was gracious and apologized even though she was awesome.
Two days later Dr. Chapman called my phone and left a message telling me that it was my fault that he didn’t call back because I had put my own cell number in wrong for him to call back. He never apologized for the stress that he caused by being in a rush, for cussing and unprofessional behavior or anything else.
Bottom line is I never thought that a ND would treat me worse than a conventional medical Dr. I never thought that an ND wouldn’t stress nutrition or herbs first, then drugs second.
I will never be going back and could not in good faith put my health, finances or my trust in Patrick Chapman ND nor recommend him to anyone. I NEVER write reviews… and I am sad that this has to be my first.

Doctors Patrick and Leigh-​Ann Chapman are both some of the nicest, most competent Naturopathic physicians in Portland. I have been a patient of Dr. Patrick for over two years now and am occasionally seen by Dr. Leigh-​Ann.
I have a chronic health issue and both have been extremely helpful. Because of my health issue, I see many many doctors. Of all the doctors’ I see, I look forward the most to visiting Dr. Chapman at Sellwood Family medicine.
Their clinic is inviting and bright, the staff friendly and helpful, and Dr. Patrick Chapman is thorough, skilled, enthusiastic and extremely caring.
You can tell that both Drs Chapman care about and love their work.
If I could rate them six stars, I would.

He is the best primary care physician I’ve ever had. He has helped me deal with many chronic ailments and major and minor health problems.
