Get you head over to Pinkham’s Millinery. Dayna (designer/​owner) hand-​makes hats from straw, rabbit fur, Nutria (like beaver), etc. for ladies and gentleman. For 34 years she’s worked with all sort of heads on rock stars, actors and PDX’ers. She was commissioned by Nike to design hats for tennis greats Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams.
Heads up! Neck, shoulders, eyes, hair, etc. – all considered in custom hat design that fits your character. Each hat (brim & crown) fits well – made well – in Dayna’s workshop & boutique.
I dropped in and Danya starting checking-​out my noggin and showing me materials in various shapes and colors that work with my zany character. I like rabbit fur. Even if you don’t need a hat now, it is worth knowing about now! Hat making is fascinating and Danya loves (knows) hat-​talk!
No selling! Danya said «go home and think about it.» What style of hat do I want? You will have a Pinkham hat for a life-​time! Guaranteed to fit for as long as you have a head on your shoulders! And Danya is still kicking! And she will re-​shape a hat anytime you like – years later!
It takes 2 weeks from design to new hat-​on-​the-​PDX-​streets! Nobody has a head like you! Nobody should have a hat like you! Heads up! Put a lid on it!

Awesome place, the owner is so helpful and really knows what will look good on you and what to wear it with. Unfortunately its a bit pricey but they do say that a fool buys cheep and twice while a wise shopper buys expensive once gets quality. This place is definitely quality as you can tell by all the media attention she gets and by the hats themselves. Defiantly recommend this place, even if your not sure the hat you want yet she will most likely find the perfect one for you.

The woman, who I assume is the owner, was so helpful! We know nothing about hats and she had such patience in helping and educating us. My mother eventually purchased a hat and no doubt, will be back for more from Pinkham. The quality is superb!

Truly beautiful handcrafted hats! This shop is half showroom, half studio workshop and so it’s really fascinating to get a glimpse of all the hat blocks and supplies that go into the artistry of these headpieces. You’ll find an array of wool and straw hats for men and women, as well stunning on-​of-​a-​kind fascinators made from feathers and taxidermy birds.
The proprietor, Dayna Pinkham, is lovely and was happy to let us try on pieces that struck our fancy, and even recommended a lovely wool felt hat that really flattered my face shape. Sadly, being out of a job meant that I wasn’t able to purchase it (this sort of quality doesn’t come cheap, but is still much more affordable than milliners in LA) but she wrote down the style, size, and various options so I can phone order a custom one when I’m ready to purchase.

We stumbled across this little shop looking for a cobbler (which was right across the street from our hotel). It’s nothing you’d notice from the street. It’s hidden in a little alley-​like shopping area. But if you’re looking for a hat, whether simple or fancy and are willing to spend the money, you’ve come to the right place.
I fell in love the minute I looked in the window and knew I just had to have one. Ms. Pinkham took my measurement, made a few suggestions and I settled on the Adams Cap.
Three weeks later it arrived on my door step. It fits me and my personality perfectly and I wear it nearly every day. I can’t wait to get another style.

Pinkham is located in a store in the back of a galleria off Broadway, but once you find it you’ll want to stay for hours. There’s something about a working milliner’s shop that draws a girl in and won’t let her go. Feathers, wool, and piles of ribbons are stacked in the back, and in the front are the most gorgeous hats you’ve ever seen.
I’ve never thought of myself as a hat person, but the idea of having a custom made wool hat with delicate folds and maybe a ribbon or feather, whatever I want, that’s hot. Sometimes Pinkham has stock sales, and this is a great time to scoop up some of the expensive hats. I hope to have some major event in the future which will require a hat, because there are few things more delicious than having a hat custom made. And imagine, it could be carried in a hat box!
