Portland Bagelworks

If they aren’t boiled, they aren’t bagels. This place should be called Portland Steamed Bread Ring Works.

Customer service was horrendous. I was going to order and when it was my turn the cashier just stared at me and then said, «Well do you WANT SOMETHING?» Um yes. I’d like you to develop some manners.
Walked out.

The bacon, egg, and cheese on a bagel I got was not very good. The egg they use isn’t fresh and very weird, and they barely put any cheese on it. The bacon was okay. The bagels are pretty tasty, but not a great place to eat an actual breakfast. The people were friendly though!

Great food, drinks and exceptional service. Staff is always friendly and kind and they hustle to get you your order quickly which I really appreciate. Awesome variety of bagels that are all fresh, great spreads too! Try to the veggie spread on an everything bagel, YUM! Bagel sandwiches are bomb too! Good lattes and coffee!

This is literally the best food I have ever had. Holy shit. I’m New York born and raised, so I thought I knew bagels. Boy was I wrong.

Overpriced, lousy service, questionable hygiene.
$ 2 for a plain bagel to go.
While I’m ordering there’s a girl blowing her nose over and over again. I thought it was a customer and then she walked behind the counter. She went behind the scenes and continued to blow her nose. I ask the slow, hipster, too cool to be working here cashier if I could please have my bagel and the nose blower comes out and grabs the bagel! They don’t use little tissues to grab your food either. I told her I didn’t want her touching my food. She said she washed her hands according to regulations. That may be, but how unappetizing is it to have somebody sick, blowing their nose over and over and then grabbing your food without even a napkin between her hand and the bagel!!!
I’m pretty sure the manager or owner was standing there during all this. If this is the kind of hygiene they allow in front of their customers I shudder to think what goes on behind the scenes.
Also, They don’t have a grill, so if you enjoy microwaved eggs on your bagels, this is your kind of place. Skip this place. There are at least 2 other bagel shops within a few blocks of 23^rd and Glisan

Delicious salt bagels and this place is always very generous with the cream cheese, which rocks. Sometimes it’s kind of slow depending who’s working though.

Could be so much better though they’ve lost my business with the place being dirty and the «owner» lacking in giving a sh. t about customer service. After my last visit and encounter with the owner I’ll never be back.

Two words: very dirty.
I went in the shop mid afternoon. I ordered a bagel with cream cheese. $ 3.50. That’s a bit steep for a plain bagel and cream cheese. Additionally, when I noticed the worker preparing my bagel had not washed her hands, her long hair looked like a scarecrow. Her hair was a tangled mess all over the place. Looked as if she had woken up and ran out the door. She also had rings on and was handling my bagel with her hands. I ask for my money back I was just grossed out. Her hair strands had to be everywhere back there where all the food is, no hair nets. no gloves… nothing.
I recommend a wide berth around this place do not enter unless you like to eat hair and dirt.

The bagel was OK but they were so skimpy with the cream cheese that I could see the bagel through it. Friendly service, but I won’t be returning.

The bagels here are fresh, definitely. However, the service was so horrific. There were three people working and none of them were interested in helping us. The male working there was making a mocha using Fred Meyer chocolate milk and kept his back to us even after seeing us walk in. The others were just too occupied I guess to look up and help us. The employees were not interested in answering our questions when they finally got to us. As I said «Thank you» for everything she handed us, I got a «Yep» as a reply. Super unfriendly staff and overall seemed dirty. We won’t be back.

Food was okay, pretty simple. The only problem was that there were not open during opportune hours. There was one morning where we tried to get bagels, and although they were all inside, they would not open up a few minutes early. Instead they needed to take a break.

For breakfast today, I had a toasted jalapeño bagel with jalapeño fiesta cream cheese. I also had a almond joy latte w/​soy.
Most places would charge for soy, but not this place. That’s a bonus for me which makes my latte a good value of $ 3.00 for a 12oz. I asked for ½ the syrup but not sure if that was fulfilled. It was rather sweet but I went ahead and finished it.
I took a bite of my bagel sandwich, hmm hmm… was it good! The bagel was moist, fresh abs had a nice chewiness to it. I love jalapeños especially on bagels. The jalapeño fiesta cream cheese quite tasty as well.
Portland Bagelworks is pretty much a hole in the wall on NW 23^rd. It’s a small establishment with few random chairs and tables.
The service was great and American Express cards are accepted.
Overall, I would return for more bagels. If you are in the area, stop by for a quick bite.

Their bagels are really good. I tried coconut one today and I like it. I have been this bagel store for 3 times already because it’s next to my office. They provide lots of favor of cream cheese. Probably, I will try the Almond one next time. Overall, bagels and service are good.

Great bagels that are super soft and moist! All kinds of cream cheese to choose from and what a selection of bagels. The workers are friendly and give off a family vibe. The décor is cute, it used to be sold tile shop and you can chalk draw on the table surfaces! Fun place, but a bagel.

They make really, really great bagels here! It’s a local shop, woman owned (I believe). They do a great job on orders and seem happy to cater to complicated orders. They day old bagels are a great deal and still tasty several days later. This is our favoutite neighbourhood bagel shop!

Bagels are delicious. Servers do not listen or read!
So, we went here for a sit-​down breakfast of bagels and lattes. All was delicious. However, I had to repeat the order several times. The place only had a few people, and it wasn’t loud, but I didn’t think anything of it.
However, we got a half-​dozen to go plus a 5.5 tub of vanilla cream cheese. Got home, no cream cheese, but it was on the receipt. Went back, and they gave us the completely wrong kind this time around. It was veggie (we ordered vanilla). They are too different to really understand how that happened– one is savory, one is sweet.
Now we have to go back a third time just for the correct cream cheese, or suck it up and save the one we were given for bagels that actually go with it. Geez. Way too much work.
So, the bagels are five stars. But… I have to knock it down to three stars for service. This has kind of put us off as new customers. Check your order before you leave!

The egg had a dense, unusual texture and no flavor. Visually the bubbles in it looked unappetizing too. I will say the bacon had the right level of crispness — not too chewy, not too brittle. The «works» version of the everything bagel was tasty. Next time I’ll get that «works» bagel with cream cheese (definitely no egg here again).
My café mocha was gross. It had a bitter and plastic-​y flavor. I tossed it in the garbage a couple blocks away and walked a couple more to get a real mocha at Barista.
They have a few tables inside, but one had no seats, and one was covered with supplies (packages of napkins). Not many places to sit.
The bagels are good and everything else is not good.

If you’re looking for a bagel breakfast sandwich, I would suggest going elsewhere. The egg they use is dense, rubbery, and unappetizing. It isn’t that hard to buy real eggs and either cook them on a hot plate in a ring mold or microwave them. And they would be far more tasty!
The bagels, however, are actually pretty good on their own. I had the Parmesan and Herb bagel and found it had great flavor.
If you’re looking for just a plain old bagel and cream cheese or a turkey sandwich on a bagel this would be an okay place.

Ehhh, you can get a better bagel at Fred Meyer for half the price. I ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese bagel, and the egg was spongy, the bacon was not done, and they didn’t even toast my bagel.
It was overpriced and gross. I would eat at McDonalds before eating here again.
