I have been a patient at the Portland Community Health Center for the past four years. I appreciate the warm, friendly treatment and the holistic approach to healthcare offered here. The doctors and nurses always spend adequate time, listen closely, and answer my questions thoroughly. One of the things I like best is knowing that as a person with insurance, my being a health center patient helps the health center provide care to the uninsured! It’s a way to get high quality care and make sure others in my community can also access the health care they need.

PCHC has been my family’s primary health care provider for a few years. The doctors and nurses have always provided a high level of care. It is great to go to a provider that actually spends time with me as a patient, and I never feel rushed or just another number. It also is great to go to a provider that helps all — whether they are low income or high income.

let me start by saying i’m glad Portland has this place as a community resource. they offer low-cost care, they will see patients without insurance, they offer translator services for immigrants ~ basically, if you have to come here, you will be glad Portland Community Health Center exists. this sensitivity to the diverse needs of a community is why i am giving 2 stars instead of one. if you don’t absolutely need to go here, don’t. many of the medical professionals simply don’t know what they are doing. further, they don’t offer reasonable turnaround time on appointments. case in point — a practitioner here sent me for blood work. their next appointment was not for *six weeks*. i called about 2 weeks after the blood work and a nurse told me my labs were normal. but when i go in for my appointment a month and a half after the original problem, the practitioner tells me that i have a relatively serious vitamin deficiency and need to start supplements immediately. however, he does not know what side effects i can expect from this vitamin or what food sources have it naturally. wowzers. he then tells me that he won’t refill a medication that i’ve been taking for 10 years, because he doesn’t «like» it. heads up, his name is Peter O’Donnell, NP, and maybe he’s good at his job, but it doesn’t look that way from where i stand. see what i mean? just save yourself a headache and go somewhere else if it’s possible. if it’s not possible, i guess PCHC is better than no treatment at all.
