We walked in with a general idea of what we wanted.
After we returned with more exact measurements, they sold us exactly what we needed. We’re super happy with our new gas fireplace insert, and thank them for for their patience, good suggestions, and spot-​on advice.

My wife and I recently downsized to a smaller home and decided to convert our living room fireplace to gas. No more lugging home paper/​wax logs from the grocery store and cleaning out the fireplace every couple of weeks.
So we had a gas line run to the fireplace this spring during an extensive remodel. Then last month, as the weather turned colder, we went on line to find a gas fireplace store and that’s how we discovered Portland Fireplace Shop.
The store is a bit of a drive from the suburbs of SW Portland out to east county but it’s well worth it. There are lots of gas fireplaces on display and many more in their catalogs. We hooked up with Kristen, and she was great. After a quick discussion of our needs, she steered us towards what we were looking for: gas fireplace, no blower, glass «rocks» instead of logs and fireplace glass doors. She never attempted to oversell us and in fact strongly discouraged us from buying a remote control as a waste of money.
Within a week an installer came to our house and took measurements for the fireplace glass doors. We then returned to the store, ordered the doors we wanted and picked up the hardware for the gas insert. Throughout the process Kristen was there to give her input but also gave us plenty of room to decide for ourselves.
I was able to install the «H» gas insert myself, after a quick stop at the hardware store to pick up some pipe compound. Then we spread the glass «rocks» throughout the firepit and voila! we had ourselves a gas fireplace. Although Kristen said it would take up to four weeks for the doors since they were a custom build product, the installer returned to put in the doors just under three weeks later. I appreciate a place that undersells and then over delivers.
We could not be more pleased with the product and the service. I’m happy to give Portland Fireplace Shop five stars as it was an excellent experience dealing with them every step of the way.

My husband and I recently bought our first home and needed a new wood stove. I shopped around but was unimpressed with what most of the local spots offered until I found Portland Fireplace Shop. Ray is very knowledgeable and fair. He had all the info we needed for getting the EPA/​tax credit and his guy Tony who does installation couldn’t have been nicer or more efficient. I love the Regecy/​Hampton H1300 and Ray is one of the only Portland folks in the area that carries this brand. (Considered one of the best in the industry and with an unbeatable policy).
On a side note, Ray told me he built his own website and I like that he puts up pictures of their stoves online so you don’t have to waste your time driving somewhere only to find they don’t have the model your interested in.
Can’t wait for cold weather so I can heat my home and save $$ with my awesome/​stylish new stove! (and getting the $ 1500 federal and $ 300 Oregon tax credit will be nice too!) If your in the market for a more efficient wood or pellet stove I would strongly suggest buying one this year so you can get the tax credit and if you want excellent service and unmatched quotes-​Ray/​Tony are as good as it gets.
