Portland Healing Space

I experienced Katie Bowens’s massage technique (during an open house last week) and she does not play around. I can see Katie being a revelation especially for people who get bummed out with other massage therapists who stay too light or too on the surface, and wish someone would just really get in there. Katie’s pressure point elements of the massage where deep and firm and I’m pretty sure I actually felt my individual muscle fibers unknitting, smoothing out. Also, when Katie tells you to drink a lot of water after, dude… listen and comply. A bonus because of the open house is that Max Voltage was playing violin and loop-​pedal composing in the same room I received my chair massage and the combination was transcendent.
In that one evening, I experienced so much of what makes Portland Healing Space a haven for care. Every detail was thoughtfully aligned for an experience of ease and opening, healing and renewal.
It’s real obvious that each practitioner, and the support people on the business/​office side of things, have a mindset where a rising tide raises all boats. So extraordinarily cooperative, in all its senses. I only knew the person I went to the open house with, yet I feel if I walked back into Portland Healing Space today, I’d be greeted like a friend by anyone in the house.
A review of Portland Healing Space would be incomplete without mentioning how consistent the brand experience is, thoughtful, empathetic, beautiful, soothing throughout. Their retail area has a small yet mighty selection of great products. My favorite deodorant (Schmidt’s), masterfully created flower essences by Shayne Case.
I could go on and on. PHS’s thoughtfulness expands to individuals who would not normally have or exercise the privilege of access to their level of self-​care and healing, because of financial hardship or general underearning… they have a fund built by donations from patients and friends to supplement the cost of care for individuals who would not afford them elsewise.
I was thoroughly astounded by the love and care packed into this building. If you ever drive up grand north past broadway, you’ve basically passed this treasure as the road takes you left.. . go straight to the right instead and take care of yourself.

I am a relatively new client of Danielle’s and was referred to her by a coworker of mine (ICU nurse). I started seeing her for general self care needs. After the first session I noticed a few things:
1. Danielle is very gentle in both interaction and practice. Professional and very intuitive.
2. I felt relaxed and re-​energized immediately
3. She uses therapeutic communication with the most grace I’ve seen in years
I also started using massage in junction with acupuncture and it’s fantastic. My experiences have continued to be very positive coming here.
Of a note on the clinic in general: very clean, calming atmosphere. Tea and water on hand. Receptionists are very nice and make it easy to book visits.

I have been going to Danielle for acupuncture for about 3 years for a variety of treatments. She is the most effective acupuncturist I have ever been to. She has treated me for digestive issues, muscular issues, physical trauma, emotional unrest, and everything else that has come up! She is professional, kind and has incredible intuition-​guided skills. She is very grounding and open.
I started going to Liz for chiropractor treatment upon a recommendation from Danielle for a chronic shoulder issue. Liz is also amazing! I had been to 2 other chiropractors and massage therapists and nobody was able to relieve the pain I was in. Liz was able to fix my issue in just a couple of sessions.
Liz and Danielle are both extremely talented healers. I highly recommend Portland Healing Space to anybody who is looking for relief and healing.

Acupuncture treatments from Danielle have made subtle but deep changes in my stress level and have improved my general well-​being. She is a very perceptive and careful practitioner. I highly recommend her services.

Managing old (and new) injuries, stress, and muscle tension is a regular part of my life. Dr. Giles and Danielle complement one another perfectly with their separate healing specialties, and I have relied on them for the past 7 months to keep my body in check.
Danielle’s ability to restore my body to balance with her acupuncture magic never ceases to amaze me. Seriously. I always walk out of her treatments feeling peaceful, grounded, and happy. Even on my most stressful days, she transforms my angst into a puddle of calm. Sometimes I’ll neglect to tell Danielle the full range of my body complaints (because who wants to seem like a whiner?), and ALWAYS I leave feeling like she magically tuned in to the trouble spots, and smoothed out the wrinkles.
Dr. Giles is a chiropractor AND licensed Pilates instructor. She is incredibly thorough, and puts careful thought into her treatment approach at each individual session. She uses a range of techniques: soft tissue therapy, rehab exercises, Graston, a more traditional chiropractic adjustment, taping… Sometimes she makes a simple inquiry that ends up resolving long-​standing pain. For example, my old back injury left me with a tilted pelvis, a curvy lower spine, and (up ’til recently) daily pain. Dr. Giles studied my medical history, and analyzed my gait, stance, and movement patterns. She recommended a heel lift, and two days later I was strutting around pain-​free. Boom.
But my personal favorite of all Dr. Giles’ treatment techniques is PILATES! I’m a fitness trainer, and I specialize in core-​focused workout designs, but not until Dr. Giles prescribed some Pilates exercises did I experience the full healing potential of deeeeeep core activation. This week, after several days of home improvement tasks that had me contorting in all sorts of bizarre, unsupported positions, my back pain was sky high. Five minutes – literally 5 minutes! – into my session with Dr. Giles, the pain slipped away.
Go see these healers! They’re brilliant, passionate, and totally relatable. You’ll be in great hands.

I started seeing Danielle (Acupuncture) for inflammation in my digestive system. I have had amazing results! After just 2 sessions the pain is gone and I have no noticeable inflammation! Amazing after years of struggling! I have had acupuncture in the past and I appreciate her intuition and gentleness! She spends the time needed listening to your concerns as well as your body. So wonderful!
After seeing Danielle, I decided to see Liz (chiropractor) in her office for shoulder pain. Though I have only been for one visit so far, I truly appreciate her style of chiropractic. She is thorough and very knowledgable about ways to get different areas to open up. She is helping me get to the root of the cause, which I have been needing! I have been adjusted by other chiropractors who do not address the root issue, and my body goes right back to the old patterns! She does not force but gets into places by softening and allowing the body to open. I appreciate that!

Portland Healing Space is the combination of two wonderful health care practitioners. Liz is a chiropractor and Danielle is the accupunturist. Both really take time with you to try and determine the nature of the problem. The thing I appreciate most Portland Healing Space is how well Danielle and Liz work so well together to integrate a treatment plan. I have recently been battling a lower back strain and they have really spent the time to determine the best course of action in their respective modalities to treat the issue.
Overall they are just really warm caregivers that really care about their patients and want to make sure they get better. I can’t recommend them enough.
